OK, so I've been offered one for 350, and probably could beat that down to about 300.
Is it worth it? Can I mod some of the "modernity" out of it? Can the FX loop be ripped out?
Go on...Help me out here folks!
-
Worth it? Perhaps. If you can get it for $300, do it.
I'd imagine $100 worth of mods would go a very long way with a JCM 2000. I mean they can't possibly make it much worse, so that's a start...

If only it was $300!! Sadly it's £300!
I don't know. it's mainly a kickaround amp for the house. I tned to gig with a borrowed twin, but at the minute im using a Roc-Pro 600 for the house, and it's just rubbish!
-
^ second hand? they normally go for around £400 new.
what type of music do you play? How much cash could you get together for an amp? what guitar, pickups, and current amp do you have? EDIT: ah, i see you've told us what amp you have, I've never heard of it... :(
:drink:

It's second hand, but hasn't been used. Twas a gift for a naughty child, but his Da is selling it on, having found out just how naughty (I'd go into details, but you don't wanna know!!) I usually play bluesy-rock stuff, veering up to the odd bit of metal.
Main guitar is Ugly Bob the Eggle wave with 2 BKP-90's
Also use a 70's tele deluxe for thicker tones.
The Roc-Pro is a god-awful fender hybrid amp from the mid nineties. It used to be called the Performer before that.
I've got three and a bit hundred. Had my eye on a second hand laney VC-30 2x12, but it got snaffled...

That seems high. About $550 if you talk them down to £300. I can ebay one for less than that at any given moment.
My sugestion would be shop around for a Studio 15 if you like the older Marshall tone. It will get a pretty good JTM45 tone and some of the JCM 800 tones as well. That's what I use for my practice amp and I have been very pleased with it. They have significantly gone up in price - $700-$1000usd on ebay these days, but in the UK you could probably fine one for less.

I really want a 50 watt JCM800 combo, but they're as rare as rocking horse poo with hens teeth in it.

i had no trouble finding mine on ebay about a year ago - there was always one or two on there... It's worth waiting for them to come up 8)

Ebay is teasing me. There's a twin in lovely nick for 450 (buy it now!) on there. But it's in canada. bar-stewards!

I'm probably (almost certainly) selling my JCM800 100W combo. Same difference as a 50W really if you use an attenuator. PM me if you're interested...

^ why? :)
-
Ah, I just need more versatility from my amp. I'm not really a metal player so I don't even need that much gain, you know?
-
nnnnnnnot metal! mwahhahah (or however he does it ) :)
So whats on the WISH list then?

me?
I'm looking at a trip to Matamp, or checking out one of the HiWatts. Not too certain. I only need mild breakup on an amp; I get most of my solo tones from fuzz.
Having said this, I have no money right now. Hence the desire to sell the JCM800 - need the money.
-
To be honest willo, I need an amp, but I'm also a tight git. Transportation could be a problem too, unless that's newcastle Co. Down you're located in!

Ha, no problem. But yeah, its Newcastle, England, unfortunately. If you can get a ferry over to Liverpool I could definitely meet you in summer, but hey, if you're broke/tight ( ), that's cool!
-
It's hard to know which to say. If i'm broke, then i'm a waster, If I'm tight I'm an arse...
Can we have a complimentary term for the financially embarrased with ideas above their station?
