Title: Tim Mills might be the devil.
Post by: Dave Simpson on May 31, 2006, 10:49:47 AM
I just finished installing my second set of Nailbombs in one of my guitars. Still have a set of Cold Sweats to install in my second Les Paul, and just heard from Tim about a Miracle Man, Mothers Milk HSS configuration. Let's see, that's $900 in the last couple of weeks plus whatever the HSS set is going to cost me.

Tim what in the hell do you put in those pickups of yours to make every other brand pickup out there sound like rubbish? :P

Damn, my wife is going to kill me when she finds all the receipts!

I know the problem!  You start changing the pickups in one guitar, then you play it against the others and the ones you thought were great are now sounding jaded, pretty soon you have to put new pickups in those too and then you're hooked!

Hope you don't have as many guitars as me otherwise you will be doing this for a long time!

I might have to thin out the herd to pay for the new pickups.

That was exactly my dilemma. I changed the pickups in one guitar, then I thought "well, this guitar has always sounded pretty good". Then I changed the pickups in the second guitar and I knew the truth. The BKP's just sound better than any other pickups I've ever owned. Including a set of Seymour Duncan's that were wound by Seymour himself.

This place doesn't help either, I hear clips of other BKP's I haven't tried yet and start getting the GAS itch. I'm doomed!

I realize now what a blessing it is to have only one guitar! ;)

There's no doubt that Tim's mega-talented, and his company makes the best pups, hands down. And yes, it's Tim's vision, psyche and blood that go into BKP. But, he has talented winders working for him, too. All 3 of those guys work their asses off to give us the best product imaginable. For the work and quality of product, the price is fair.

I know what you mean, Dave.  Now when I look for new guitars I factor the cost of installing BKPs into the basic price.

It's funny... a luthier has finished the Strat that I'll be introducing here very soon relic style with a set of Apaches. I haven't heard it yet but he when I asked him ( and he owns a healthy dose of old pre-CBS Strats ) about the tone he simply said:

" It sounds like a good old strat should". Enough said.

It's true he really is Satan. He uses one of the more common sins, seduction. Just so you can buy his pickups. He has all those nice guitars with great sounding stuff in them to make you jealous and want one. So you just HAVE to buy some.
