Hey guys, I'd just like to know, what are the best super strats in your opinion? I'm looking at getting a new guitar to replace my LTD MH-301. I was looking specifically for a dual humbucker guitar with a comfortable, 24 fret neck (hopefully a set or neckthrough neck). I'm looking at a price range of 650-900. I'm not really picky about the brand, I just want a really good guitar and the super strat setup is my ideal style and shape. I don't really care about the brand, but the guitar must look classy and I don't care about the pickups either. I'll get BKP's when I can.

Those guitars cost a shiteload of money, I think he was looking for more mid-ranged priced guitars. ESP is perfect.
-
Uhhhh, i second what that guy ^ said, but still awesome information guys... I just bid on a John Petrucci signature guitar...and I love his tone, so it's all good. Just need to get BKP's for it if I actually am successful.
-
If it's not too mainstream for you: MusicMans are fantastic guitars. Try an Axis SuperSport (or if you need Floyd: an Axis) or even a Silhouette. You should be able to get them in your price range off ebay in good condition.
They also have distinctive looks and high quality woods as a fantastic basis to BKP them:)
-
Check out Mavericks...their at the bottom of your proce range...but they rli are worth more than they cost...classy, high quality woods (e.g AAA grasde rosewood fretboard) and they have some of the fastest necks i've ever played

+1 on that, Maverick seem to be well built guitars although I didnt get to play it properly in the shop it looked and felt pretty nice.
-
Look out on ebay for the Charvel Model 5 or Model 6. They have through neck construction, high output pickups, good hardware and some of them look amazing and have some brilliant reviews on them.

+1 on that!
Here's my Warmoth superstrat made to Fender Strat dimensions (except the headstock shape and compound radius fretboard).
It's currently awaiting a body refinish to lake placid blue....

If you like Warmoth, try www.stewmac.com

Superstrates eh?

...I don't know if you have noticed but they have EMG pickups in them :P
-
well if i was gonna buy any superstrat right now it would be an ESP F-series...
*drooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooools*.... fit your description pretty well actually.
oh and Bainzy- whered you get that scratchplate? knowing you, your probably read on a book on Aluminium crafting and machined yourself one within 5 minutes... but anyway... lol it looks awesome... I WANT ONE!
-
Haha, here's one you might like Sambo: http://www.machinehead.co.uk/images/esp-jpg/f400fm-lg.jpg
-
dont... please... i want one too bad... every time i see one i feel like committing suicide... and there IS a knife in front of me right now, albeit from my dinner... but stilll.... capable of damage... so stop right there...
-
Not really into the F-series, though I do love what ESP is doing in the guitar business. Great guitars. I'm in the lead for a John Petrucci Music Man on Ebay right now. So...things are looking up!
-
haha, i'm not really a fan of the f series too, i want an esp ex-400
-
The Jems with the vine inlays look classy.
That's what I use. And I personally am a huge fan of the Evolution pickups as well, but they're not for everyone...
-
This is what I'm told. I just realized that there's no way I'm going to be able to get my Petrucci guitar  oh well. I'm going to have to settle for some NEW BKPs! Good times and bad times, you know I've had my share. (That goes out to old Plant and Page!)

Why can't you have a Petrucci guitar? :(
-
Too much money. Isn't this allllways the reason!?

 LOL
Got it from Sharp Concepts (http://www.sharp-concepts.com/). The first one I ordered never showed up but Jeremiah was cool about it and said it probably got lost in the post and sent another one free of charge.
-
Try a Vigier excalibur.
I own a Custom model and it's one of the best guitar i've ever played so far.
Excellent for shred,punk,pop,blues.
Vigier's Floyd is one of the best.
I tried a kramer, esp and stuff but nothing comes close to a Vigier.
-
Wow, all of these brands I've never heard of! Wish I had the money for one of them...Always looking for the best stuff so I can remember to check them out when I'm rich 8)
-
For your price range have a look at Schecter, C-series and 006 series.
I play a 006 blackjack. It has:
mahagony body,
24 fret set neck (looks like neck through, very comfortable)
Two Hums.
And it looks cool in my opinion.
Very nice guitar
-
Have a look at the Lag guitars, they do a nice looking range of superstrats the Arkane series.
I tried one of the Jet series and for the money it felt brilliant, but it was only through a micro cube and it was equipped with Lag pickups so I can't truely speak about tone.
Though from the catalogue the Roxane series are more my cup of espresso but the local shop don't stock them yet.

By "local shop" do you mean "Northern Ireland", and by "don't stock them yet" do you mean "plan to"?
I'd like to get to try some of those, just for the experience as TO/Ben would say, if nothing else.
:drink:

How's this for a superstrat!
This is my GMW Charvel Bullseye replica with a BK Miracleman pickup. It was painted by Lee Garver of the Jackson custom shop. A serious piece of kit and it's mint! Could be for sale too if anyone can give it a nice new home.
-
Ok, no picture!
Try again......

By local I mean Lisburn, the shop music matters moved into a larger store last week and has a couple of the Lag Jets in stock, and for sub 250 quid theyre great.
I'm hoping they get in one of the Roxanes as well as the metal models as they look real nice (though the master builts come in at 1700 quid)

^ pm sent so as not to crowd up this thread, thanks, rob!

If you can do without the whammy bar  this is a great guitar. Made in Japan, excellent guality. Mahogany body with a maple top. I've got two of them. Throw on a set of Sperzel tuners and BKP's and you're good to go.

My theory on the Super Strat matter is that you should buy a regular strat and MAKE it super...Mine's going Sperzels, Graphtech (nut and ferraglide saddles), Callaham Tremblock, and the obligatory BKs - Nailbomb/Mothers Milk Set :D

+1, I'm doing the same to my strat :D

word to that!
humbucker/slanted single coil, slanted 24 fret fretboard, all maple neck, all access neck joint, cold sweat/trilogy pups and a floyd!
one day it will be mine!!!
though that maple gunslinger kills me every time i see it. such an amazing guitar!!!

Even suped up Fenders can make killer super strats!
Thats why they're called Super Strats ;)
I've got a Fender USA Deluxe Ash Bad Boy Blue LTD Edition Strat
(haha right mouth full that one eh?)
and it's loaded with LSR nut, Locking Tuners, Tremsetter, BKP's and it absolutly kills any "super strat" i've ever played, and i've played a lot.
-

Ostensibly, that would seem to be true, tho most branded 'super strats' have wider nuts, flatter radius finger boards, etc. The 'strat' part in super strat simply refers to the general body shape, as in Strat vs. Les Paul.
My suped up Strat, while it sounds great, doesn't hold a candle, neck-wise, to my other guitars.
-
I have to say i much prefer the neck of anything fender (both my strat and my tele) to these new "super strat" style necks...I played (possibly Tim's) ibanez at LGS, while trying out his screamer and i thought it was horrible - the frets were too big and the fretboard too flat, but maybe given more time i would like something like that...i don't know and don't care atm :P

Me too, I just cant play them, too wide and horrible compared to a regular strat neck.
-
I do like the fact that the neck on the tele is slightly wider when i play some finger picking stuff - easier to get the fingers around quickly than on the strat as the strings are slightly further apart...but apart from that, my strat is king
-

The opposite could be said, too. Different strokes for different folks.
-
Yep, exactly, thats the beauty of different guitars :D

True. I love the original Ibanez Wizard neck and the early 60s Gibson taper/SG neck. Wide-ish and very thin. Perfect. I wrap my thumb round the neck so it's very comfortable to me, but more classical styled players find them very cramping.

aye
i sometimes get cramps in my hand on my charvel too. depends on what i do and what i play, but i'd prefer a slightly fatter neck.
-
Another idea.
Try a yamaha Rgx TT.
It's a very good guitar.Pickups are great and it's quite affordable in second hand :D
-
I love the neck on my Charvel 6 with jumbo frets made from stainless steel. It's what you get used to. I like my Strat too but it takes a while to adjust but when I have I think that's great too.
