which BKP humbucker will give the most natural or transparent guitar tone. I'm also looking for something with more output too. Is there a pickup that falls into both of these categories? I like the abraxas but I'm wondering about the crawler, black dog, VHII also.
thanks

Depends what you mean by Transparent. If you turn down most BK's then you get a very transparent clean tone. However if you are talking about a transparent driven tone, then the Stormy Monday or Mule will be the one.

ah, I expected the mule to come up. However, I was wondering if there was a BKP with more output that can have a transparent driven tone.

As in, do you want a natural metal tone?
The Mule ansd Stormy Monday are more than enough. There are clips of people playing thrash metal with Mules, they sound pretty damn good for a low output humbucker in drop tunings.
Pickups like the Miracle man are for that realli hardcore stuff.

sorry...what I meant to say is, which humbucker would allow the guitar's natural tone to come through. I hope that makes sense now. I do play some metal but I always have the option of cranking the gain on my amp so high output is not necessary. I would like a responsive medium output pickup.

I'd recommend a VHII, more by gut feeling than anything. Nearly any decent pickup will allow the natural tone of the guitar to shine, so you could go with any number of pickups, really. You'd probably be best off avoiding the high output ones, as far as I know.

i think the VHII colours your guitar a lot! deffinatly gives the guitar a huge midrange hump with lots of voice.. I love the VHII it's absolutly amazing but i wouldnt say it allowed the natural tone to reign :P
Just from listening to peoples guitars here i'd say the Mule without a doubht would be the best choice for you and trust me the Mule has enough power Tim uses it in an ozzy tribute band.

Alternatively, the Abraxas is supposed to be like a hotter Mule (haven't heard any metaloid Abraxas clips, but it might work).

It was just a guess. Ah well. Can't get 'em all right, eh?
