As soon as I find a job, I'll need to sell off some things and save up for a lighter guitar. I really want an all black, simple Strat that I'd assemble myself with a single hum, hardtail... you get the picture. Something simple.
So Alder body, all maple neck, standard dot inlays, Strathead, single humbucker with single volume pot (most likely a SD FullShred or EMG85)...
Where in the UK can I order strat bodies and necks?
-
(most likely a SD FullShred or EMG85)...
Excuse me - neither of those are BKPs :o

answers the dudes question pleez, not the choice of pickups ;)
i'm interested too

Sorry, I should have mentioned that the keyword, being a student and so far without a job, was CHEAP :D
Hehe sorry guys... If I were to go for a BK I'd chose a Painkiller or a NB, but it'd be way out of my budget I'm affraid, especially when I can get a custom pickup or second hand Duncan for 50USD shipped ;) BKPs may be better but too much for now. I chose these forums because most of the members are UK based.

I got my BKP for christmas, lol
...Yeah, so back to the topic - i can't help you, but i will add a +1, as i'm also interested in places within the UK selling strat parts.

what is that?? koa wood??
It's from the axesrus link you gave us - says it's Brazilian Mahogany. It looks like koa though, doesn't it? Is koa a variety of Hawaiian mahogany...?

dunno, i'm not a tree

Mhmm I may get the neck from WDmusic (130 pounds for an all maple neck with 12'' radius and 22 frets, it seems reasonable) and HOPE that it'll be well resonant and have a decent profile...
As for the body, so far I'm still out of options, none of the big websites do what I need :(
-
You can always try eBay.co.uk. There are a few Strat bodies there. Not nearly as many as on eBay.com, but it might be worth a shot.
-
Could you buy an inexpensive Strat a like-preferably routed for a bridge h/b and pimp. I suppose you want to start from scratch but i thought I'd suggest it.

what dya need?? maybe i can find something you missed
-
Single bucker, routed for hardtail, and with a side square or oval jackplate (a la LP or super strat, not a la Strat for instance) with standard Fender specs, Alder or maybe basswood if good quality body.
And without a pickguard ;) That's the main problem.

Here, I found a UK shop:
AllPartsUK Catalogue (http://www.allparts.uk.com/catalogue/index.php?cPath=91000_91024&ALLPAR=e9344ef7537bb6d4901293b1760d6ed3)
-
how good are you with a router?
-
I checked out allparts, they don't do it.
As for a router, I have no woodwork experience whatsoever, and no room, budget, or equipment to do it myself. It was my number one option but it's just not doable :(
-
what kind of budget are we working to here??
-
It depends on how much I can get for my amp, charvel model 1a, pedals and pickups I'm selling and maybe my beloved Kramer Stagemaster. And on whether I find a job this summer and get much birthday money.
-
roughly????
-
Errrr... sub 500 pounds, without counting the electronics and nut basically...
-
i say ask jonathan :P (feline guitars)
-
you could probably get a Warmoth body shipped over and pay the customs tax for less than £500
-
500 for a good body, neck, tuners, ferrules, routing, painting, and basically everything apart from the pickup, jack and pot :P

well, ya didn't say that... but still, when you work out the sums for a Warmoth body, it's not a hell of a lot
-
realistically pierre, i'd look at production model guitars that you can modify to your specs. It's the closest you're going to get to this custom axe for under £500 i think mate; although i challenge you to prove me wrong :P

^ +1, probs easiest, and if you don't like the finish, you can always redo it with nitrocellulose finish (i have got a link somewhere from Bainzy, i'll see if i can dig it out....)

that would be this...

that would be the one (was knee-deep in my Bookmarks folder at the time)
-
No production guitars that I know of have an all black, single bucker hardtail/stringthrough body unfortunately... If you guys know of any, I'll listen!
Thanks for the help so far. Yes it's a tight budget, but that's all I could realistically get.
-
dunno what it's like without the scratchplate, but:

Hehe sorry I meant strat ;)
Maybe there's no way, it's true. I'll see what I can get or if I can get it all progressively, or sell more stuff.
Does Feline guitars do individual bodies or necks?

Yes we do and it may be a good way to get the basics if you can't find one anywhere else.
Basic prices on custom bodies etc
Bare wood body £150
Paint finish £170
Neck £250-350
What age is your Kramer ?
Is it an old USA one or one of the recent (music-yo) ones?
Be only too happy help you out
We can get all the WD parts for the same price as you would direct as well
We also keep all your favourite pickups too and can help guide you
Drop me a PM and we will chat about it all
Or call me - number on the website
-
It's a 1986 Stagemaster standard. Single bucker, OFR... GREAT state. Great guitar too. I prefer bolt ons haha...
170 PLUS body price for a painted body then..? I'll see if I ever can afford it :P This is just a plan for a good guitar this summer that I probably will need someday, but I have none of the funds in. It's my birthday this summer though so I may be able to get some stuff then. Thanks! Basically all I'd need would be hardware and painted body and neck. Electronics and pickups I have.

Music Man Sub1, single pickup, hardtail?
Not the easiest thing to track down, but should come in under budget and has a peach of a neck. The textured finish is quite groovy too. I was all set to buy one myself, but it sold about an hour before I got to the shop with money...

That's a great idea! I always loved this guitar haha! Man I totally forgot about this. Thanks! I'll be on the lookout for one!
-
BAAAHA you guys are right.
I'll go for a standard MIM Strat that I'd have played before and found comfy, maybe go for a Custom neck, replace the pickguard et voila, instant light, good looking not so expensive gigging guitar.
-
Good idea - they are well made guitars
We recently had Afghan Dave's one in for a refret and it was a fab guitar
It was one of the light ash strats.
Played great and sounded fab - with BKPs
We put Dunlop 6000 wire on it - what a great rock guitar!!
-
The Light ash is Korean though. But yeah I played one and it really was a GOOD guitar. I was very impressed. The neck was so comfortable too, I loved this V! It's too buttery for a strat though with the APSII. Another sound, but very beautiful.
