If you have "toaster" pickups already, I think Tim could do a rewind to your existing pickups if you sent them in to him. You should definitely e-mail/PM Tim. He's a well of information.

BK's dont make Ric type pups but, as said above, they might be able to rewind them.

To be honest they're so specialist in their application I haven't considered making them, likewise Filtertrons...........there are one or two guys who've taken that as far as it will go so I leave it to them really. We do however rewind quite alot of both Rickys and Filtertrons and can certainly improve on stock performance.

I keep juggling the idea of getting new Rick bass pups (from, like this guy (http://www.the-music-connection.com/ricpart.htm#pickups), or something and immediately sending them to BKP rewinding.  8)

I'm sure I used to have the original 4001 pups somewhere, but they seem to have vaporized in the course of various transatlantic shuffles, and I think they were single coil anyway.  I might as well get some 4004-style humbuckers like the Lemmy signature had   then get them resouped by BKP  for the ultimate rockin' Rick experience!  Might take me a while to save up the funds for that whole process, though .... :P

I have the scatterwound toasters on my Ric and love them to death in the bridge position, though I find the neck pickup a little wooly / muffled, and may invest in a rewind (if I ever get some money)

It depends on what  Ric toasters you have, there are two (three actually) toaster types.

Vintage (till 1969 I think) between 7.2 & 8 K Ohm scatter wound and have the classic Ric sound

Reissue toasters came in about 12 K Ohm, and didn't quite have the top end associated with the vintage pickups, these where in the signiture and reissue guitars till around 1999. Apparently many people remove the windings till it is closer to the original 7 to 8 K range

The current toasters are back to around the original resistance and are scatterwound again, and are pretty nice sounding.

I believe (from what I have read) that the toasters on 60s basses are the same toasters as used on the guitar range.

It may be an idea to keep the original pickup and buy a new one to be rewound by Tim and thse guys have them for sale at less than the original Ric price (and their Hi Gains are pretty dammed cheap for a mutant strat project)

These guys also carry Ric parts http://www.ricsrus.com/ and are very helpful

BTW is it my imagination or does the Ric suffer less from hum than fender single coils ?

Rob...

Ooo, UK-based Ric specialists!  I'm saving that URL (despite the fact that their prices are the same as US prices, except with a £ sign instead of $ ;)).

Still, alas, they've only got 4003 bass pickups (single coils) and are out of the bridge pup.  I'm keen to replace the old Bartolini 'bucker in my bridge with a Rick HB1 (and then perhaps get that rewound by BKP; I can't get the Bartolini rewound because its resin-potted).
