I drove down to Feline yesterday and took My strat for Irish Tours, a Richwood LP for Cold Sweats and an Epi LP for Rebel Yells. Plus fret dressing, set ups and some new tuners on the Epi. :D Can't wait! It's good down there, I love it!
-
Let us know how they sound, I'm gonna get some new strat pickups when I can afford it and might get some IT's. Also interested in how you like the RY's and Cold Sweats in the LPs as they seem really good.. you also must do some clips
-
I'll do some clips. Hopefully with drums and some bass too. There's some software in the post coming this way! I'll probably have a mare getting it to do what i want though
I've asked Jonthan to get the Rebel Yells in burnt chrome covers!
-
Interesting stuff- the I T's will be great no doubt and I am looking forward to hearing the results.
-
Wow, nice selection!
-
How much did that lot set you back? I wish I had the cash (and guitars) to be able to do that...
-
:D Hi Johnny i take it this is the Extra cash you had left over from the move  LOL
:D 8)
-
^ Yes some of the ducking and diving money helped here jt!
How much did that lot set me back? Check the prices on the home page for the pups! Not sure of the grand total yet. Probably a lot but it's worth it cos when the lid goes down it stays down a long time! :D (Not that I'm planning on a long departure!!)
-
I meant if you include the fret dress etc :P

Not too sure but not too much. Getting some wiring done too and some new tuners on one. I put six down upfront for the pups. There's no point in putting lovely pickups in without doing the other things or they won't be enjoyable to play.
-
That's very true :) And I expect a clip of you playing Rebel Yell with your Rebel Yells when you get them back :P
-
The Richwood has a twist in the neck and is brand new  So it's going to have the fingerboard flattened and re-fretted with 6000's! (lucky Richwood)
-
:D Glad to see your back & smiling again Matey !!!!

I'm always smiling jt! :D
How's The Preacher, still giving the silly grin factor? :D

Neck is now properly levelled and has the big Dunlop 6000s installed
Custom masking tape inlays- no extra charge!!
Protecting the pearloid/plastic from tools marking them in fact
-
^ Wow that was quick!! Thanks for the pic Jonathon :D
Those inlays are probably toe-nails! :D
Looking forward to getting my fingers into that neck.
-
:D Yer she`s starting to settle down nicely !! :D
The trems calmed down & she plays really well. I will do some more recording with her when i can get my PC sorted out.
:D 8)
PS are you getting stainless steel fret wire fitted again or is it just a normal fret dress type of thing ?
-

Cool, I was looking at the pics of your guitar on Felines website last night. It's such tasty piece of work!
PC's aggro's the pits!! I hope it's not too drastic. I want to do some more recording with some new software I got (Drums and virtual bass), when I can suss it out a bit more.
I'm getting 6000 wire, the super jumbo size but that doesn't come in SS. I think it's getting way to much love as it is  Did you get SS frets in The Preacher? The other 2 are getting fret dresses.
-
:D Na regular fret wire Dunlop 6100 & 6105. Johnathons fret dress`s are great. The only fret jobs i`ve personnaly played that i liked where on Tom Anderson guitars, Felines are up there with `em. :D
Can`t wait to hear how the guitars sound & wondering how long it`ll take you to get your head round the recording software !
No my PC problems not bad but it looks like i might have to upgrade it inorder to be able to do any worth while recording with it.
:D 8)
-
Up there with Tom Anderson's work, wow that's good to know!!
Got my head around some software stuff tonight, nothing major just got a midi drum track and cubase told Groove Agent to play it.
-
Hi Johnny, I got 6000 on my part scalloped neck - it is really nice to play. You won't know what to pick up when you get them back (and you'll forget all about the women in your neighborhood  )
-
Hi Phil, I bet can be tough choosing which guitar to play espcially with your collection! Ah, the women, yes there looking good in their summer clothes! They may even like a go on one. Hmm, I can feel another Koch joke brewing!
-
Got the guitars back from Feline this morning. 8) Hmmm Grooooovy! They play really well, the frets feel lovely and the sounds.....oooohhh baby, they sound f*cking fantastic!
I'm cream crackered. I've been awake since 4:00. Left N. London at 8, got to Croyden at 09:45 via the straight through the middle route. Interesting drive down and forgot to mention it to Jonathon, I run over a pigeon!!   And guess what? It's dead! Could be a sign, (JP take note) :? (Fans of Rolf, Members of the RSPCA and Animal Hospital Producers please be advised that this was an unfortunate accident and it was all over very quickly!): Plus i had to hit the central locking down in wood green as the other insomniacs were getting angry on the pavements there one in particular looked like he was about to spiv. London! $% this place, it's a looney bin and it turns you into one! Anyway I'd take it out on the guitars but when i got home i had to put them away after 20 mins and clear out the lounge into my bedroom and decorate, but made some good progress and must finish it Sunday because of the football (glad its over now i can get back in to my practising) and my guitars are in a wardrobe that's got the contents of the lounge piled up in front of it and now the doors won't open. i would have put it all somewhere else but i live in a rabbit hutch!!

Yay! I get paid again on Friday (it's come round really quick) and I still have £200 left from last time...Soooo, this means I'm gonna be able to afford the majority of the mods I'm to perform on my strat - and that includes the BK's, wooo :dance dance: (not a fall out boy reference! )

£200 plus this months/weeks? Sounds like your there mate!! Nice one, what are you going for? :)
Erm, whos Fall Out Boy?
-
Yeah, and I've done some overtime this month also so hopefully it'll be a biggun as well :)
As for the BKs to choose, I'm not entirely sure yet - I wanna go HSS, but I can't decide between the Nailbomb set or the Holy Diver set. It's gonna be my jack of all trades guitar (hopefully), and I'm not sure whether it would sound better to push the HD out into metal territiory, or to bring the NB back into the classic rock sorta tones...I have the singles for my blues and jazz, and ima stick a split on the bridge p/up too, for no particular reason
And I'm also thinking of asking if Tim would possibly switch out the IT's for SH's, but I dunno if he does that
EDIT: Fallout Boy as in the band - dodgy emo shitee...but they had a song called "Dance Dance" apparently, and whenever I say that people are like "omg you like fallout boy too! :D " so I was shooting that down in advance :drink:

What do you mean switch out?

I'd try before you buy. That's what the LGS is for! Well it was for me anyway.
I dunno what Emo is! I've heard of it as a genre but not sure if i've heard any music that comes from it. From the piss taking it gets i gather it's none too popular!

You're quite lucky, it's really not good...
By "switch out", I meant that as buying them as an HSS set is cheaper than buying them individually that I'd prefer that. BUT, the set comes with IT's as standard but I'd prefer SH's instead, so I was thinking that maybe Tim would sorta make me some Slowhands instead (but preferably for the same price :P )

Yes i leave the emo stuff to the others. I'm a sort of Joe Walsh-Meshugga kinda guy
I'm sure he will do it for you if you ask him. My IT's in my strat are amazing! I must get on with painting!
-
:D Johnny glad to see you got them back !!! :D
Sorry about the pigeon ! Did it squark when you hit it !
Your right London is a F***ing shitee hole madhouse !!! Hope the decorating go`s well.
Why did you go through LOndon to get to Feline ? I just went round the M25 it was easier.
:D 8)

Hi jt,
Yes the pigeon Squawked and might of squarked a bit too! It's a sound that will stay with me all my life
It's a madhous, or so they say. It's a madhouse, am I insane? (Anthrax) You must like that one jt! Yes it is unfortunatly and it just gets worse and worse. What can you do eh?! I wouldn't want to retire to the blue rinse south coast just yet!
I go throught the middle because the M25 on a weekend, near Dartford is a nightmare, Lakeside and Bluewater are too a big a magnet for shopaholics in their motors. I only hit a bit of traffic coming over blackfriars bridge on the way back cos of roadworks.
I used to be a despatch rider see, know all the back routes and it's fun, I mean you can't slay a pidgeon on the motorway!

Say no more! It's a mare' Steve. Hope it wasn't too bad for you.
-
:D That`s your new monicker now is it Pigeon Slayer !!   Can`t wait to hear the song !!
:D 8)
The video could be quite entertaining tho....
-
I have a riff that I've been sitting on that would fit - If someone wants to write the lyrics, maybe we could record it for the BKP album :P
-
Lol! Pigeon Slayer, the song!!  Now we're talking fellas! It died because of Bkp's!
 Driving down the road, can't drive any faster, gatso cameras everywhere will report me to our maaasters!
Got to get my geetars, and I'm in need of them to play, oh no there's two pigeons in the road, SLAY SLAY SLAY!
Ok there's some 'lyrics'!!
     :P

I had a good go on the new pups tonight for an hour through my Koch Powertone II
Epi LP.The Rebel Yells sound amazing, really defined with lovely mids, in a good crunch setting, on my amp (around 7 on the gain). They have a nice bass too. On the ultra gain channel they sound good for leads too. Clean the neck is superb! The work on the frets is great. It's got Gotoh tuners and 10's strings which are a 1st as I've always played 9's. Stiff bar-stewards aren't they! For a cheap guitar it really does sound and play well. :D
Cold Sweats sound mental! Clean they really surprised me, the neck is lovely. Same settings on the gain channel and you can feel the bass, i love that in a guitar tone. Ultra gain is great on leads too. With this much bass and as there in a LP copy, I for the first time I might add (as I've always played in concert pitch due to having a Floyd rose trem and not wanting to faff around with springs), dropped tuned it to C# and then dropped the 6th string down another tone like a drop D. Woah!
What a nasty bar-steward! I think I'll have to learn some System riffs now! Switch to ultra low speaker damping, gain channel on 10 (not ultra gain as you can really hear the difference like this) neck pup it's gruesome and sick in a  good way! Bridge is evil! That's all I can say to describe them really, they have that BKP defined sound and clarity too. All in all a F*cking brilliant pickup as they all are. The work feline did on the neck is amazing. 6000 fret wire and a sanded neck. Great stuff!!
The Strat an 1979 25th anniversary with Irish Tours is now just a gorgeous guitar! The tone is just godly! The bridge on this thing with a metal amp setting just floored me! It just screams!! The cleans are really nice and it crunches well on lower gain settings in all pup positions. The frets are really nice after the work on them too.
PDT_003 Man am I happy i got them all done at last!
Couple more to go and.........

When I bought my 7 string (off ebay 8) ) the guy before had it strung with 12s and I couldn't get down the shops for a while after it was delivered...It now has 10s (and a .60 bass string as the 7th), but playing 12s for a week makes you appreciate how light 10s are - I used to play 9s before I got the 7 string, but now I find them horribly light

9's have there uses. You can cane your hand with heavy strings. Remember you have to make it last a life time! My strat and Charvel have 9's and they still sound great and are a hell of a lot easier to play.
-
Yeah, 9s have their uses - but they just feel so uncomfortable after using 10s for so long (and 12s for a week  )
But then I don't do a lot of "that widdly stuff" as my dad would say, so the fact that they're not as light makes no difference to me...And that may also be why I can't stand Jumbo frets :P
-

Ahh you have to get used to it you see! 9's with my stainless steel jumbos and its all widdles like a widdly widdler! I love playing fast (ish) it horses for courses. Does you Dad play too?
-
Nah he just listens to music - he has a cr@p ear though, thinks the riffs to Nirvana's Rape Me is the same as the riff for Teen Spirit, which they're really not
But yeah, I think it's 'cause the only times I've played jumbo's are in shops when trying stuff out, like amps etc.
-
lol!
It's a good idea to get used to both types really. You can go ballistic with the vibrato on jumbos, and those double stop bends with harmonics screaming out of them is cool too! Smaller frets to me make you work a bit harder and when you go back to jumbos it seems a breeze. A bit like your point on strings. If you play on an unforgiving acoustic, now that can really be good for 'training'!
-
Maybe I'll get a guitar with Jumbo Frets and Rebel Yells after I've finished modding the strat...
Maybe some sort of Ibanez would be good - maybe an SZ520FM, or RG321MH (I also dislike floyd rose's which narrows my options slightly)
-
Hey don't worry about floyds, delve into the past and see if you can find an old Charvel like mine or Muttleys! Good quality and cheap as chops
