I'm looking at getting a small bodied acoustic for my wife who wants to start playing. At one of my local music shops the other day my eye was caught by the Guvnor GA575CE ( see http://www.guvnor.com/GuvnorWeb/ for specs and pictures).
It is very small bodied, has a slim neck, a huge cutaway and looks great. On the female playability stakes it ticks the right boxes. However, I confess to knowing much less about acoustics than I do about electrics. Will the sound be poor with a body THAT thin? Won't a completely maple guitar be ridiculously bright (or is this desirable in an acoustic?) has anyone played one?

I have a Guvnor GA575CE which I brought a couple of months ago. Obviously it is all about what you want from a guitar. This is not a camp fire guitar, as the narrow body means it is quiet compared to a normal guitar. Yes it is bright but it has a fantastic pick up for the cost of it with enough control for you to tinker with the sound to get what you want. It came with 12s on it, which I changed, for 11s, and have just changed again today to Martin extra lite 10s. The 10s have given the best & brightest sound so far. As a woman, I can say it i definitely a lot easier to play than some of the giants I've owned. I got mine at The Music Box in Oxford, not that far from you. I don't know if they've got another one in, or going to, but try before you buy is the best policy with guitars, rather than on line. Hope this helps.

I was looking at a Lag parlour acoustic a few weeks ago I have to say that altough I'm not an acoustic person, the notes seemed to hang in the ait.
It was pretty sweet and under 210 quid.
