Title: MUHAHAHA!! Super Evil Nailbombs!
Post by: gingataff on June 27, 2006, 05:38:43 PM
I was recording a SRV style bluesy thing and stumbled on some other cool sounds in my Line6 XT Live and knocked this thing together. It was going to be a Dream Theater type thing but ended up sounding a bit like Slayer. Its quite short (about 1 min) but it's got some serious crunch!

Very nice! Lovely crunch on that.

What did you use to record it?

Yo that kicked ass! I liked the style. Actually good music this time around.

I didn't know Nailbombs could sound tight like that.

Cheers! It's using my old Charvel, I can't wait to finish the other track using Irish Tours, it's so completely different. It's such a versatile guitar now.

The recording is actually 3 guitars panned left right and centre, the left and right aren't hard left/right, just about 40%. The left and right are two different patches using the Line6 Spinal Puppet amp and the centre is a Lunatic amp, the patches I got from Fremens Bundle on line6 forum.
This is connected to a Presonus Firebox recording interface and then in to Garageband on the Mac. Each guitar on its own sounds quite different but they work together well I think.

Thanks again.
They are tight but there's real midrange grind and grit that I love, loads of harmonics and not sterile. When I read about people saying they love their pickups I understand why.

In terms of bass and tightness I have to do it from memory, I don't seem be able to get a huge amount of bass from my Line6 and headphone set up regardless, but I did demo my Nailbombs against my Jem with DiMarzios through a Laney combo a while back and there was definately more bass from the Nailbomb. At first I was disappointed with the Nailbombs clean sound as the DiMarzios clean  is really twangy almost like a single coil and was great mixed with the middle coil, but now I like the NBs clean sound. Its more middly but its nice, and I can get some cool Allan Holdsworth style clean sounds with the right settings. With overdrive the NB makes the DiMarzio sound thin.
If you want super tight bass you might want a ceramic magnet though. I'll try and sort the neck IT out soon if you like, not sure how it'll turn out!

BTW my Charvel is a Fusion too :D must be the Custom not the Deluxe as it has 2 SCs not 1. I think for more of a metal neck tone the Trilogy would be better. I've got some nice pics. Can I put them on here as attachments or do I need to store them on a server and link it here?
