Title: Single humbucker ESP and Ibanez Gambale: Pick ups??
Post by: gingataff on July 05, 2006, 04:10:59 PM
I'v been checking out some of the second hand guitar shops in Tokyo I've got major GAS. I've seen a few tempting axes. USA Custom Ibanezs, 80s Jacksons and two in particular that have caught my eye: A white ESP with strat shape body (proper strat, fat horns, not soloist or MII shape) with pointy head, Floyd Rose and ONE humbucker (and a coil tap by the look at it.)

So what pickup would you go for in a single humbucker guitar?
I'd like  something thats good for low end as I'd like a guitar for downtuning but I'd also like a creamy lead sound. Unfortunately I don't know what wood the guitar is made of other than the maple neck/rosewood fingerboard. But I guess versatility is the key and a good split sound.

...And a Desert Yellow Gambale style Ibanez, HSH pickups (not sure if its a Gambale or original Sabre model). What would you go for to get clear and precise shredding but not super heavy metal? ie a contemporary sound but not super high output?

I already have a Nailbomb and would like to try something different although I realise it may sound different in these guitars.

Opinions appreciated while I check the bank balance and the girlfriend

Cold Sweat in the single humbucker guitar.

Thanks T.O, I was thinking a Miracle Man would be a bit too much and the CS sounds like a good option. Would  Rebel Yell be too bright?

That's funny, I'd have said Cold Sweat for the second guitar
Personally I'd have a Nailbomb in the single pup one, but you ruled that out :(
