I got some clips... they came out alright for the cheap equipment I have.  

Excuse my shitety playing, I was tripping over wires while recording and doing my best to keep playing.

I have some more I would like to post but I am playing a friend's song because I wanted to send him a suggestion and I need to ask his permission first.

wow! sorted tone :)

i wouldn't say it was shitety playing at all (much better than mine ;) ), but you can tell your a bit harrassed by the circustances.

i wonder what microphone system you used? as we all know steve stevens clips were done on a simple rig and sound hugely rock with apprantly no productions tricks. in my opinion, your recordings are sounding 90% as huge, at least with the classic lead cab.

is it a 4x12 cab?

Have to say I LOVE the tone on the "Tone Tweak" ones, much better tone than the ones with a bit of lead on IMHO.

Amazing what a difference. The G12T75s were never my fav speaker, too. The lead actually sounds very nice. And agree that SL-X, lead cab, rebel yell combination is a very good tone indeed, well done!

Wow thanks for the complements guys!

The mic I used was a single Shure prologue.  I didn't even try anything with dual micing as I often do.  The 4 track was a cheap ($100 tops) Yamaha using a standard cassette tape.

Part of the reason that the Classic Leads clips sound so good is that I really worked on the positioning of the mic on those two... but the quality of tone of the Classic Leads is a good part of it too - a G12M-75 will never sound like that.

For the G12M-75 clips, the mids were at either 8 or 10, I forget (may have been at both on different clips) and the mids still sound scooped.

A good part of the sound is the mod I had done to the SL-X.  I had the preamp gain reduced a bit (2 resistors replaced) and a Marstran '68-'80 spec transformer installed, which is why it sounds like a modded Plexi more than a JCM.
