Iv been advised for the nailbomb and mississippi queen combo on my guitar as i am looking for some customisations to my guitar. Iv been told this will get me a good muse-ish type sound but i was wondering if anyone has tried this or knows what it sounds like. This is the first time iv looked into changing my pickups so any help would be extreamly helpful to me
cheers!

well matt bellamy has nailbombs and mississippi queens in a couple of his guitars, so i'd imagine so
:D
-
wooo yeah i suppose so id just like to hear from someone that has an idea what they are like so i got a rough idea
-
well i got the MQ in the neck of my Les Paul, and it sounds fairly bluesy, good for soloing mainly, wouldn't know about the NB, never played it
-
its weird cos the guitar i play with which is a yamaha rgx420s; i find amazing and have some great pedals and can practically imitate matts sounds off the majority of all there songs. i can't imagine a better sound but there must be because i have just used the guitar as i bought it which was only £250 :?
-
thas what i thought with my LP, until i bought new pickups for it, its just because you are used to that sound
-
yeah i suppose your right :D im really looking foward to getting them put in its gonna be weird getting a better sound than i thought i could'nt get! im getting it done at mansons and possibly having my pahse pedal put im my guitar and a kill switch fitted too :guitar4:
-
koOol
im saving up to get a fuzz, phase and possibly some lasers or LEDs fitted to my musicman
-
sweet my mate in my band has a home made guitar by his dad and has the fuzz factory built into it its an awesome pedal. i wanted to gret the fuzz probe built in but thats just too much effort as with the chaos pad well money aswel :(
-
Not only will Bks sound better, but the they respond so well to your every movement, it's like they"feel" better too. I have a bridge Nailbomb and it sounds righteous, clean, dirty, filthy, and split for single. In fact it sounds like a more cutting/biting humbucker when it's split single.
-
awesome would i also have a switch to switch from humbucking to single coil like i do currently?
-
provided you get the 4-conductor wire then yes you will
i think
-
I'm also going for a MQ in the neck and a Nailbomb in the bridge of my LP Silverburst. I think it's going to be a good combination. MQ will be great for cleans and fuzz, the Nailbomb will be better for distortion and leads. I saw a Manhattan HB sized p-90 in the picture section, anyone know anything about how these differ from the MQ?
-
no idea, but have you got any pics of your silverburst? havent seen one of those for aeons :D
-
This isn't a very good pic but you get the idea, it's also pretty dirty here but it cleaned up nicely. I love having a guitar that was made the same year I was born (1979) :D

thats a pretty sweet guitar im just so curious to find out what difference putting new pickups in my guitar will make iv only ever used the ones that come with the guitar. does anyone know what humbuckers come with the yamaha rgx2402 i know there ceramic thats all
-
They will be yamaha-made models - Yamaha make good quality electrics for guitars so while they may sound good on their own, in comparison to a set of bare knuckle's there will be no contest. You're talking ford fiesta (does the job) to a ferrari here.
-
:D thanks alot for the help.. now i just have to finish raising the money to buy them and get them fitted. i take it that the only difference between the covered and open poled is that it is just a different look, which will not affect the sound?
-
I believe the Manhattan is a lower output P-90 designed for archtop jazz guitars.
I have a Warpig/P-90 combination in an explorer and it is a great setup. I have a series/parallel switch on the Warpig rather than coil tap, I like the sound of the Warpig in parallel mode. It is still powerful but with the lower midrange cut out and less output.
-
hummm i cant wait to get them!
-
The MQ in the neck position is a freakin giant slayer!
I will get one ... eventually!
-
how come whenever im looking over the internet i can barely find any websites selling Mississippi Queens? Are they rare these days or not as good or something?
-
anyone? :(
-
Theyre available on this site :)

Hehe yeah thats true. I was just curious why i could not find them virtually anywhere else
-
From my experience stores don't carry P90s as theyre not 'popular' enough, look at the number of guitars equipped with 90s on the wall of your local guitar store.
At least magazine staff have started to catch on (and the guitar mfgrs too) the joys of tone rather than sheer output.
Perhaps it will even become common to see pickups in stores other than the SD JB & 59 or the DiMarzio Super Distortion cos it's pretty dammed hard to find a store with a SD Pearly Gates available ;)

ah right i see. well mansons advised me to go 4 the NB MQ combo so its most likley the best option for me!

Ok thanks for the clarification on the Manhattan. Sounds like an MQ and Nailbomb it is for the Les Paul, I'm strongly leaning towards battle distressed covers for the Silverburst

the annoying thing about the burnt chrome, camo and aged nickel pick ups are that they look sooo good yet they dont suit alot of guitars
-
tell me about it!
-
im just ordering the combo in chrome from mansons today! they sent me an email when i enquired and they can fit either chrome, black or gold pick ups so it looks like il be heading for chrome!
