Very annoyed with myself really...I was all set to buy a Holydiver HSS set for my strat, and then I went and wrote myself some cool metal riffs - and got myself into the habit of playing that sort of music again. So, my main question is going to be as follows:
Is it easier to get metal out of an HD, or bluesy/rocky/whitesnakey stuff out of an NB?
-
Well I know malicious steve loves his HD and plays metal so I think the HD would work great.

Stay with the Holy Diver if you want a darker, more robust type of tone. If you want more edge, go with the Nailbomb. Playing style is secondary, imo.
-
Go for the Holy Diver i would say.

Seeing as it was my review of both that put you in two minds in the first place, I better contribute :)
The Holy Diver does do METAL - in fact it does it very well
FWIW, after spending a lot of time comparing the MM, NB & HD I'm going to put an HD in my Jackson.
That's not to say I don't like the NB or MM - they're all fine pickups, but I really like the massive thick tone, the harmonics & the "chunk" of the HD.
-
That's very good to hear from you all - And sorta backs up why I chose the HD in the first place, but you know how it is when you go into "Omg, what if I get it and it doesn't do what I want it to!" mode
My original theory on the Nailbomb is that it's probably too bright for what I want - I find myself having to cut the Treble and Presence on my Screamer all the time when I play my Ibanez with stock pickups (getting Rebel Yells when the strat's finished :) )

I have a holy diver and if your looking for that Whitesnake type of vibe, that is your puppy ! I have a Nailbomb and it is a bit abrasive for the old school metal type stuff. But is better for more modern stuff, like Muse etc as Matt uses them !

Pshh can't stand muse :P HD it is methinks :)
