Title: 3 Coils?
Post by: deg0ey on July 17, 2006, 10:49:44 PM
I was just thinking (dangerous game that :) ) and was trying to work out what a pickup with three coils would sound like...Obviously it wouldn't be hum cancelling, but would it sound more like a single coil or a humbucker do people think?

Just an interesting topic for discussion - I hope it's in the right forum, as it is about pickups, although not BKP's (unless Tim wants the challenge of building one  )

Hamer used to have one in the Phantom Custom model.  SD made the pickup and it was a triple coil motherbucker! This is the ad for it:

Ibanez used a DM made triple coil on some of their USA Customs in the early 90s.

Cool - maybe I'll buy one for novelty purposes and see if Tim wants to rewind it for me :P
