Title: Agghh! so many necks!
Post by: Muzzzz on July 20, 2006, 11:17:40 AM
Hey guys.

I'm one of those people who buy so many new parts for their guitars, that in the end, EVERYTHING has been replaced and customised, so the the original guitar doesn't actually exist anymore. :guitar4:

Well anyway, I might be doing a neck transplant on my current guitar in the not-too-distant future - BUT WHAT TYPE??!! There's too bloody many.

I usually like the fat-back type, because of my rather large hands and fingers (I'm 14 years old, 6 ft tall and have a 24 cm - or 9.5 inch - thumb to pinky span).

But then i discovered that paul gilbert (aka god) is 6"4 and uses a mega thin ibanez wizard neck PDT_030 . Apparently they're pretty fast, and I lean more towards the whole shred thing, so i want fast.  :chain:  has anyone played one of these, if not, can someone suggest a neck for me?  :gib:

Comments from people with big hands ESPECIALLY welcome..

Thanx dudes

Go and lay a few guitars with diffrent necks. Play some Jacksons, Ibanezs, Fenders, Gibsons, etc. to get a wide array of ideas. I am just shy (1/4") of being 6'4" and I can play anything really. You just have to adapt a little.

Isn't that a bit extreme?! PDT_008 ;)
Wouldn't just playing them suffice?!!

the PGM isnt ultra thin.

it's majorly comfortable and the 17" radius makes it seem bigger.

go with what feels best for you, not by numbers.
