Hey I made these clips ages ago on a £3 mic from GAME through guitar tracks pro. So the recording quality is not the best! but ok! Tell me what you think, the guitar is an Ibanez rg550ex with the warpig used in bridge position. I just made up this random riff with powerchords to try and show the gain and metal palm mutes all that kind of stuff etc. One clips is of the Engl screamer 50 combo, and the other the mesa nomad 55 combo (which I had on loan for a few days) both on the highest gain setting. I also had them about the same volume (not too loud though!) and the mesa is a lot queiter on the recording for some reason? Tell me your thoughts on both amps!! I've also made a poll to see how many people prefer each one.
OK ive just tried to attatch my clips into the wrong forum so I'll just delete that, cheers for pointing that out to me!!

OK for some reason You have to download this to your computer (or I do anyway) so just do that if you want a listen
-
Very nice clips there! I like this idea that we get to chose which tone we like better. Personally, I think the Engl reigns supreme over the Mesa! :P
-
Sounds better through the Engl.
You would need a better mic for a proper comparison.
-
The Engl owns the Mesa. Cool, very brutal sound!
-
ahh ENGL strikes again 8)
-
I have an ENGL myself and know it inside out. I would give less Presence, a tad less treble and more mids.
But still miles better than the nomad. Mesa is cr@p anyway, i don't understand all the hype ...
-
The Engl owns the Mesa.
ENGL owns everything :P
-
in my own opinion, both tracks need a little mor tweak in the distortion department.
but i preffer the engl.
did you check your guitar to see if it´s tuned? seems like the G or D string is out of tune.
the engl clip is better in my opinion
Q:)

Diezel owns Engl
I wouldn't know, but for value for money ENGL owns everything :drink:

Yeah, the clips arent the best obviously through a £3 mic. I didn't see the point in tweaking them to just put them through that, I made that clip as soon as I got the Engl with a pretty flat EQ. I'll try and post some more up and you can tell me if I need more bass etc
And nah, my guitar wouldn't be out of tune! I bent the strings slightly at some points for that kind of effect though, I thought it was cool at the time haha
-
gah dang. That Engl absolutely crushes.
-
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
UNDERSTOOD MAN
thank´s for the answer
Q:p
I´ll wait for the clips

Agreed. :drink:

I think with a bit more gain the Mesa would of owned the ENGL. I thought the Screamer sounded a little too bright but had the right amount of gain.
-
I go against the grain here and say the Engl sounds a bit too harsh, there too much bass on the Mesa tho. I must say Im amazed youre comparing two relatively expensive amps using a £3 mic

....shut it....£3 mic from game is amazing!
-
^It actually is!
-
The Engl sounded way better IMHO; smoother mids, more articulate.
-
I preferred the mesa: the engl sounded a bit derivative "digital studio thrash" to me whereas the mesa had a more "sabbath on vinyl feel".
However, the more likely explanation is that I have no idea what I am talking about.
-
I liked the Mesa's tone more but there wasn't enough gain imo.
The Engl sounded thin in the mids to me (reminded me of Anthrax's ATL tone, urgh!)
-
The Engl clip sounds better but the Mesa really just sounded like it was EQ'ed and mic'ed wrong.
