No girls at your gig?
haha. yes there was. But that photo was taken during a 'wall of death' so the girls stayed out of the way.
-
Wall Of Death? Must need to see optician cos I don't see any motorcycle LOL.
-
Ahh you're (almost) american, you probably don't understand a wall of death (or you were sarcastic)....
Easiest way to describe it is that there are actually 2 walls, not 1. And these walls are made of people. And then the walls collide and people die :)

Is that Charing Cross Police Station Ben? (Near Trafalger Square)

Typical American - what you can't see in that picture is the queue (you call it a line?) for that phone box, with none of them actually wanting to go IN it

That's my guitar that's now loaded with Crawlers 8)
Moving, on, here I am playing the Ric 4001 (sadly, no BKPs!) onstage last year in Cambridge, UK:
And, of course, the cheezy holiday piccy! (Err, no guitars here, but I was checking out the flamenco action in Granada, Spain, at the time, I think!):

Typical American WTF?!?!?!?!?!
If ya wanna study some history you will find EVEN in UK back in day some travelling fairs had the Wall of Death motorcycle act with the bike riding around inside a wooden arena/tube (would NOT be surprised if it started in UK).
You wipper snappers need to realise that ALOT is bar-stewardised nowadays and meant alot different back in the day.
I am only 36 yo but am constantly LOST by some of the language used by youth today.
And of course it was sarcastic/tongue in cheek (which btw makes me 100% Brit as our American cousins have NO idea about my sarcasm and are lost entirely :)).
-
What? "Wall of Death" isn't a Richard Thompson reference?
-
Did you ever see that Irish film (might be a Roddy Doyle) about some guys whose dream it is to build a wall of death? I think its called Eat The Peach. Bloody good.
-
AHAhaHAhAHAhaAHahahaHAH
-
Only pic I got of me is from 10 years ago...Need to find some more pics...lol

Here we go ...

 I wasn't having a dig by my statement - I know what a traditional Wall of Death is, but was just trying to point out what he meant by his statement in case you hadn't experienced what has come to be known as a Wall of Death these days.
And I agree about how the youth of today, the language is ridiculous - words used for things they don't actually mean - one of my pet hates (even though I do it too)
And yeah, it's funny how Americans fail at sarcasm
:drink:

Some great pics there!
Mr38th and Carlaz very cool! Your guitars look nice.
Hunter, nice pic!!
Deg0ey we are not a bunch of 'Major League Muppits' Just keep a lid on it sometimes dude. :)

I saw that I think. The Irish film.
I have seen a real one a few times. They have to get up to quite a speed to get the bikes (and a go-kart!) To stick to the sides.
-
Just keep a lid on it sometimes dude. :)
Probably the best piece of advice I've ever been given - I tend to put my foot in it quite often, while trying to help (usually)
-
Cheers Johnny. That guitar has the Slowhands that I bought from Steve and since they have been in, it has been used more than ever. I need to set it up a bit though as it is not as slick as my other Strat.

It's ok, your just a tad over excited cos' of your new pups!
-
 It's over excitement combined with frustration - I still can't put them in yet!
-
Mr38th and Carlaz very cool! Your guitars look nice.
Ta, man! :) Barring the BKPs (not shown in pic ;)), my Gibson is just a stock LP Std in workingman's black. I'd like to replace the kinda chintzy tuners, but it's otherwise a solid guitar which I'll use forever .
The Ric bass -- which I'd load with BKPs if I could! -- is actually kinda nice. At gigs, other bas players always come trotting over to ask me about it! The tuners and pickups are replacements, and the electronics are modded to give the bridge pup more bottom. It looks pretty and plays lovely; the neck is fantastic, and I put only medium-light strings on it to help keep it that way (4001s weren't really built for roundwounds), but as a transplanted guitarist that's kind of a help to me. :)

A few years ago playing my SG that's now loaded with Nailbombs:

Oh, that's good! Those are the faces of rock and roll! 8) Nice one.

Hehe. It's even funnier when he tries the "insert drumstick up nose" trick mid-song:

AHAHAHAH Pretty good
but it looks like you UK guys ONLY use les pauls and similar guitars
whats up?
AHhaAHAHAHAHAHAH
-
it looks like you UK guys ONLY use les pauls and similar guitars
It's kinda true, there are to many Gibson copies in this country - if we're honest, we all own something that uses a gibson shape of some kind :P
However, to fight this wave of Gibson, I've just made enquiries to get a custom guitar built based on the BC Rich Eagle - so I can have the body shape without the poor quality of BC's these days
(http://img326.imageshack.us/img326/1230/bceagle1yz8.jpg)
Ultimate upper fret access, and such a beautiful guitar :P
-
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Holy shite
i never played a bc rich .
Q:(
nor an esp
when i talked about les pauls, i sayd the general body style etc.. not that you only get copies
Don´t worry.
Q:)
i´m intrigated by all your Uk gguy´s choice of Les pauls.
i´m a STRATOCASTER guy myself. eheheheh
-
when i talked about les pauls, i sayd the general body style etc.. not that you only get copies
No I know, but I was trying to cover all bases - many people do play real Gibsons, but I was trying to cover all the shapes and copies that people may play at the same time. For example, there are a huge number of SG's and Explorers as well...
i´m a STRATOCASTER guy myself. eheheheh
Me too usually, but I wanted something different this time - hence the BC style thing :)
-
Ahh now i understood. Thank´s for clearing it up.
humm i think i´ll get a Explorer copy, but i need to test one to see if i feel confortable with it.
plus a dean cadillac and a les paul will have the sound overal sound right?
-

Yeah, I played an Explorer once and it didn't feel natural to me - probably because I've been used to strat style guitars. Not played a dean cadillac, but what's the overall sound you're going for?
-
Les Paul SOund, But with a different look.
Q:p
-
Ahh I'll go have a look at the spec :)
EDIT: It's a mahogany body and a mahogany set neck, so I'm sure it will get close to the LP sound even if it's not identical :drink:

-
They look much better than the Les Paul, more original looking...I think with the right BK's in there you could get a very Les Paul type sound if you wanted to
-
Yes!
i´m SAVING for the bkp Set.
i´m also waiting the site revamp
it´s a hell of a delay
:(
-
It is a hell of a delay :P
What BKs are you thinking of getting?
-
Here´s the guitar that i´ll put the pickups
(http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/1783/dsc023744tx4nk.th.jpg) (http://img103.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc023744tx4nk.jpg)
I´m sure i´ll get the TRILOGY SUITE For the Neck.
i Loved the clips i downloads from the fellowe members of this forum.
And the bridge, i´m in doubt between a Nailbomb Or a Painkiller.
thats the reason(also $$$ reasons)that i´m waiting the site RevamP.
the charvel Lacks Mids. and lacks a bit of Bass.
it has a good High.
i man.. i had a Seymour Duncan Custom Custom (bass 3, middles 7, highs 7. High output) and although it has a very spongey/mush/not tight Bass , it has A very god middle and highs response(A II)
and then i sold it and bought a Custom 5(actually in my Fender)
A5 magnet. Bass 6, Middles 3, Highs 8.
and i really Felt the lack of Middles on this pickup.
so, i tested a DUNCAN DISTORTION and i didn´t like it. too much Harsh, raw sound, ..ACID Sound.. not enough TIGHT on the Bass.. and i really didn´t feel the EQ. Bass 5, middles 8, highs 9.
i felt more of the Custom Custom Middles and highs than the duncan distortion.
so, i left the Jackson Pickup on the bridge of my Charvel and put a FRANKENSTEIN double bobin Single coil on the neck.
So, i´m looking for a Pickup With Tight Bass(and a good amount of bass eq itself too, something like Bass 5 is good for me but a Noticeable one)
Crunchy Mids, and Singing Highs.
Q:)
Moderated/High Output is OK for me.. for a comparison.. Slightly More output
Than A Seymour Duncan Custom Custom .
And For The Neck, i guess i found my sound on the Trilogy Suite neck. at least for the soundclips i found here.
charvel is basswood body, maple/rosewood neck/fretboard.
Hails
JP
-
That's a beautiful guitar - what did it cost you? That paint job looks expensive...
-
ahahahah here in brazil , all guitars costs a lot. even the cheaper one´s
that´s a $%gin Shame.
but it wasn´t SOOOOOOOOOOOOO expensive like a USA charvel. and it´s not a bad quality chinese, indonesian, korean made one.. it´s a good quality Japan one.
but it´s from 80´s so, it needs a new Bridge. :(
-
i´m intrigated by all your Uk gguy´s choice of Les pauls.
Well, I was living in the US when I bought my LP -- though I guess it's raising the UK's LP quotient now. Good question, really .... I guess it's just that most, or at least many, of my favourite guitarists played LPs. So it was a natural way for me to go. For Fenders, I've always leaned more towards Teles than Strats for some reason, but I dig the "modified Gibson" shapes more and more, and I quite like that BC Rich Eagle picture :) I'd like something like that in an HSS and 25" scale, merging some of the things from LP and and Strats ..... :)
-
Hails Carlaz
i got what you said
:)
did you check my Schecter??
(http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/4860/guit16oe.th.jpg) (http://img527.imageshack.us/my.php?image=guit16oe.jpg)
-
did you check my Schecter??
Yeah, that's cool -- I like the body shapes like that where the tail, or butt end, looks fairly rounded and traditional, but then the horns get more exotic. How many frets do that have? (I'm too lazy to count in the picture.)
I know a little about what you mean when you say that all guitars are expensive in Brazil. When I was last in Colombia, I went into a guitar shop in Bogota, and even the most cheezy imitation brands had outrageous prices. I can easily imagine some kid saving his money for ages only to end up with a relatively cruddy guitar. Do you know about any luthiers around your part of Brazil (or even in some other part?)? I often wonder if, especially in a place like Brazil, whether a decent luthier couldn't make a much better guitar for the money than any imported guitar. That's often true even in Britain; if I had the money for a high-end guitar, I wouldn't buy a fancy PRS here, but instead I'd go to something like Feline. :)

Guitarzan.. are the two blonde guys on the extreme right on your pic.. brother?

-
WFD.....Yes the two on the far right are indeed brothers. And a very talented duo they make.
The girl in the front is my sister. She is not part of the band, she just likes to think that she is.
About the mp3s.....I posted a link to a myspace video that we have of ourselves. Here is the link to our new myspace http://www.myspace.com/grayvband the videos are on the main page.
We don't play extreme metal, mostly blues rock. But we are advocates of all styles of music.
-
I quite like that BC Rich Eagle picture :) I'd like something like that in an HSS and 25" scale, merging some of the things from LP and and Strats ..... :)
I'm fairly decided on ordering it as a custom from Trevor Usher (http://www.soundsinscale.com), as he's been really helpful for my enquiries, and is a good price...
It's gonna be a maple neck thru, with swamp ash wings, a TOM to string through bridge and rebel yells for £975. And I can get a case for it for an extra £40 :D
-
 Great pics Turbo Rico!
Guitarzan your pic reminds of an American TV program called 'The Red Hand Gang'! Could be a bit before your time!

Do you plan to get some BKPS??
Which ones?!
All my guitars are custom made by different luthiers and I´m used to play with EMG 81/81. But my next guitar (it´s being built right now) will have a Miracle Man in the bridge and a Sustainiac i the neck. I might change EMGs to some Nailbombs in one of my guitars. We´ll see...
Yeah, thats $%gin Excellent
i love EMGS, i may getting a BKP combo too, Nailbomb or Painkiller Bridge(i´ll wait until the new pickup get´s unleashed) and a Trilogy SUite Neck. thats for sure.
Do you have a Emg 60 or Emg 60A? i would like to hear how they sound IN THE NECK.
i may get a Emg 81/60 a or 60(depending how they sound) so , i would like to know how they sound.
are you willing to sell your emgs?!
it will go on my Charvel fusion Deluxe.
Yeah,i´m into Black(swedish, brazilian, norwegian, etc), Death(modern, tech, fusion death), Thrash(old school a lá sodom, kreator, destruction, slayer old) and fusion Metal stuff.
check this out...

q:)
You´re the same age as I am, 27. Anyways...
I´ve never played or tried EMG 60 or 60A. I thought those were for clean tones? I don´t do cleans.
I did what Jeff Hanneman does; EMG 81/81. Works for him, works for me. 8)
When will the new pops be unleashed? Anyone knows anything about them? Better for hard metal?
As for now I´ll use my EMGS for a while. Than, when I´m rich, I´ll change to Nailbomb, I guess. Thought I try them out consider that my next will have Miracle Man.
We gonna record our sixth album within 2 weeks and it´s gonna be way more thrash metal inspired. More like old Slayer, speed and aggression.

Here's one from when I was in the studio (comtemplating an array of stompboxes :)) in Boston sometime in late '94 or early '95:
I can't remember if the shot was taken during sessions with my first band or for demos for a solo project (the sessions kinda blurred together). Anyway, just visible is my same omnipresent LP Std as appears in the '99 festival photo I posted and in which I have the Crawlers now.
(Speaking of which, I sketched out a new demo using the Crawlers the other week; it's not very polished, but it's been a while since I stuck something in the Players section, so perhaps I'll try to post it up there .... :)).
-
Ok, ok,
this ones from february or may this year...
(I actually hate live pictures wtih flashlight but the others are all blurred)
And its not turned around, I am a lefty!
-

I like modern death metal too, Dying Fetus, Broken Hope, Deeds of Flesh and so on. But my true passion is Slayer and those kinda thrash bands.
Deice and Morbid Angel are really good death metal bands. Too bad the Hoffman brothers left.
-
Yah, well i basically learnt how to play guitar by tweaking the tuning several times in the week with an old giannini guitar that i had from a friend.. he traded 30 bucks and 4 doom/black cds for the guitar, and lent me the guitar for a timeless period.
i learnt by basically hearing the sounds and searching for it on the guiotar..
Deicide, morbid angel, samael, obituary, Ophthalamia, Dismember,Gates of Ishtar, Slayer, Destruction, Kreator, Pantera, Sodom, Sarcófago.(do you know this one?)
those bands, basically.
q:)

Full distortion!
I wish I still had the old Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal stompbox I had back then! I think the keyboard player (off all people) ran off with it ....

Pretty much the same band I listen to. Pantera ruled big time!
I´ve never heard Sarcófago but I´ve heard OF them. They pretty old, right? They´ve been around for a while?
Slayer, Metallica and Pantera are my 3 favorite bands. Metallica started it all back in the days... and Slayer made me who I am today. Bald and cover with tattoos..
-
although metallica WAS a great band, i just didn´t dig them
ahahah lars never convinced me of his heterossexuality
and i never liked their distortion.. etc. some weird reasons that JUST i Understand.

i just like their first album.

Metallica isn´t what it used to be. The only band that has remain the same is Slayer and even so they kinda let us fans down for a while with Diabolus In Musica, IMO.
Kreator is still good, Pantera was great all the way, Sepultua got fokked up pretty bad when max left. The thrash metal scene isn´t what it used to be... I hope my band can do something about that. :P

Here's me and my man Patrick; i'm on the right...
LOL i used to have a moustache

Oh, well, if we're getting things like ukeleles out, then here's a photo from 2001 of me (and friend) playing our mandolins in Colorado:
I could actually really use a pickup for that mandolin, since it's a b!tch to mic up at home (let alone on stage), but I don't think BKP make mando pups! ;)
-
No ukelele pics as of yet but heres one of me playing some Ibanez (throught some horrible Line 6) in Mannys, NY. The holiday reminded me how much I need to lose weight (talk about sweat ) so hopefully I wont look like this in the future, and my hair will be at proper length, its cousin it at the minute :P

I hope you had a great holiday Tom.

The top one has Dimarzios and the bottom one had swinesheads but we swapped them for PRS pickups. I have a couple of BKP equipped guitars i am building as well

Fairly horrible picture of me.
Guitar, and amp out of shot. I wasn't using the music stand either. i promise!!

Caffeine Junkie, you keep quoting me, is that because:
1. You want to remind me of my inherent failings time and again :-)
2. Or you realise that not knowing what you are on about is often where it is at?
Sheesh I have confused myself now, I need a beer.

Did someone say something about a Moustache!!

we might have had one or two drinks in these photos, i doubt if you'll be able to tell....
-
and a couple more....
-
Hey Caffeine, is that the girlfriend you have your arm around in that picture? She looks too pretty to be going out with a geek like yourself :drink: (no offence meant)
-
lol, nah just an ex, she was strange enough to want to go out with me when i was even more geeky (yeh, that is possible)
and i think i forgot to put up a photo of me wearing my union jack shorts...
-
That "lucky fcuk" shirt is immensely uncool, but I like it :drink:
You strike me as the sort of person that would actually care that we had the John Williams greatest hits on at work the other day
-
nope, i'm not that geeky in real life
i'm actually just a web developer/programmer who is taking maths and further maths simultaneously and wears fairly unstylish clothes and wears glasses and....
....oh dear
-
how did your exams go by the way - did you get your results today?
-
yup, i officially ballsed them all up
-
I got A's in Chemistry, Physics and Economics and a B in Maths - so I'm fairly chuffed...only AS though - I'm not stupid enough to do 4 A2's
-
heh heh, yeah, who would do something that stupid, heh heh....
...union jack shorts below....
-
Ok... I felt I had to do this, even if its a poor photoshop it was too funny not to do.. I hope you're not offended or anything, if you are I'm sorry

Only joking JP! This thread is huge and its great to see everyone and put a face to names. Thanks for starting it! :D

But that's a very rock'n'roll picture, too 8) -- and (though I shouldn't say it here) the players I've heard with Bill Lawrence pickups seemed to have good tone (though I know nothing more about the pickups!).
-
Carlaz!
i had a L500XL , but they said it was form some ex bill lawrence employees that desbanded the factory and starting to make some BL pickups by themselves
i installed it in a jackson JS-1 cr@ppy wood guitar, but amazing playabillity!
and i really loved the pickup. pretty good.
but i need to test the Original Bill Lawrence L500XL
-
Roy Z, that's the guy I remember with Bill Lawrence pups. He uses an early '70s Gibson Goldtop LP Deluxe with Bill Lawrence L-500 mini humbuckers. He's played on Bruce Dickinson solo albums and stuff like that and has pretty fab tone, IMO: sort of classic metal meets Peter Green/Santana. (Though, naturally, BKPs would make it better! ;))

Yeah man sometimes you have 100 pics from a gig and there is just one among them that breathes the atmosphere of the concert, most issue is always light - with flash they lack atmosphere and without they're rarely sharp ...

Here's a picture of me at a recent gig :lol::lol:
