Title: a couple of questions
Post by: nicolaimog on July 25, 2006, 02:56:06 PM
Hello Guys. I'm going to order a calibrated Nailbomb set for my Ibanez RG1570. It is HSH so i'm also looking at an irish tour. But i have no idea what to choose in the magnet and polarity options.

Please Help.
What does Vintage Stagger mean? Flat profile?
Stock polarity? RW/RP polarity?

Thank you.

Flat profile means that all of the poles on the pickup are the same height. Staggered means that they are different heights. I would go with flat for that setup.

RW/RP = Reverse Wound/Reverse Polarity.
When you use a reverse wound coil with another single coil, it acts like a giant humbucker, cutting down on the noise on the in-between positions of the 5-way switch your Ibanez has.

When you select positions 2 or 4, you are using the inner coil of the bridge or neck pickup as well as the middle pickup simultaneously.

I don't like the sound of RW/RP, but plenty of people do.

Thank you.

You're welcome. :)

+1 on the flat profile unless you like launching guitar picks. :P

RWRP would be pretty much the stock pickup type for a HSH setup.
