What do you think of these? I'm sure they'll divide opinion but I kinda like them.... This one's got a combintion of flamed and quilted maple on mahogany.

This one is Flamed maple and Ovankol.

...and this one is spalted maple....

Nice !! :D
-
Yeah i saw them whilst looking through the Ibanez models when trying to find a guitar, the jigsaw ones are pretty cool!
-
if it weren't for the fact that they were ibanez's then the bottom one might have ended up in my collection .... aaah well, will just have to save some more for a custom :(
-
i realy like those tops.
a +1 on ibanezs' thinking.
they're 80's cheesy and classy at the same time hehe.
neck through too, right?
shame for the inlays and fretboard wood though. no inlay ebony or ebony with 12th fret inlay would slay!
-
Cant say im a fan of the jigsaw ones but the wood on the body of the 3rd one is pretty cool lookin.
Petre
-
ooh, just realised that their ridiculous middle pickup has gone
ibanez just went up by 1 in my book
that puts them at 1
-
But where is that Ibanez line wave shite that is usualy on the peghead? Those are so cool D:

Prestige Ibanez's don't have it (they're the MIJ ones)
CaffeineJunkie, why do you hate Ibanez so hard? I really value my middle pickup - i'm using it in one combination or another far over 50% of the time i'm playing.
-
i just can't stand them, too 'metal'
(prepares for barrage of abuse from anybody with a warpig)
and everybody gets all excited about their wizard necks when i found them horrible to play, much prefer a les paul or musicman
and the middle pickup gets in the way of my pick, just like on a strat
-
Meh i got an Ibanez since I'm not loaded, and mine seems to cover pretty much any base of music i throw at it, and to a very reasonable degree aswell.
I can understand you not liking the neck, but it's all preference i suppose
-
i get what you're saying, but for about the same price you could probably have got an Epi Les Paul, which in my book is right up the top .... which is why i bought it
spose it's your guitar not mine so....
-
wizard2 = absofukkinlutelyHORRIBLE
wizard = pretty damn good. especialy if it's paired with a bit thicker neck and a flat fretboard w/ large frets
-

I agree with that statement whole heartedly! - except I love my strat neck over the Epi LP...

I disagree with that...For the money, you could do better than an Epi Les Paul - Mine is fairly well built, but the hardware is awful.
I may well try another Ibanez soon, as I haven't played one with a wizard neck for a while and they may have improved...
-
Sorry but i'd take an Ibanez any day over a Epiphone.
Anyways those look cool, they did the right thing in choosing spalted maple.
-
The top one would be ok if it were solid colours rather than natural wood. I don't much like the other two, though I prefer the spalted maple to the white jigsaw pieces. I really like other figured maple, but I don't like spalted maple.
-
Spalted maple just looks...diseased...But I guess that's because that's what it is :P
What I do like (if people can be bothered) is the picture of the RGA321F on the Ibanez site - the blue one...beautiful :)

This is my RGA 321 with Bareknuckle camo covered Miracle man pickups. It's a great guitar! I've had mainly musicman guitars in the past, but I've moved over to Ibanez for the 7 strings. but I fell in love with the 6 strings too. Sold all my old guitars now. Not as well finished as the M/Man guitars, but it's about tone here right? not how pretty your PRS looks hanging on a wall...haha! Get 'em used!
Is the spalt maple one available? If so, how much?
-
What's that RG like to play Andy? It looks really nice, and has a fixed bridge which is a plus as well - I'm considering saving for one now, I can feel the GAS attacking
-
^ the rga 121 is really nice, but by the time you add in new pickups, locking tuners, a new nut ( i hear some of the nuts aren't cut too well) etc., you could get a custom guitar built entirely to your specs from some of the good UK luthiers...
-
Hmm, good idea...
Mr Feeeeeeeeeeliiiiiinnnneeee! What does the average custom cost? :)
I wonder how long I'll be saving for one of those :P

A Big + 1 on both of those. Ibanez make great guitars for the money. Remember you get what you pay for.....

Epi Hardware realy does suck. My 04 Epi SG Custom came standard with gold hardware. A year later and it looks like aged Chrome with piss stains all over it.
-
thas more likely to be the fact that it's gold hardware
never did understand that stuff :?
-
The RG's great to play. Real bright sounding, and cuts really well. I had to recut the nut as I detune and use 11's, but you gotta expect that. The finish comes off the bridge pretty quick, but I don't care too much about that either.
For the money, it's an awesome bit of kit. I would seriously recommend owning one!
-
To add, you don't need locking tuners on the hardtail RG. If you string 'em correctly in the first place, they don't move. I gig this thing a lot, and never had tuning problems.
-
I wouldn't put locking tuners on it anyway - They're a bit of a waste of money when you have a fixed bridge imo

aye ok, fair enough.
still, add a set of BKP's (£200) to the £550 or so asking price, and you're within £150 of a custom...

:D Wrong !!
They will help make life easier when string changing. You won`t find yourself having to wrap the G B E strings around the peg inorder to stop the string from slipping. This is really helpfull when your in the middle of a gig !!
:D 8)
-
Fair enough :P
But when I said waste of money, I meant that the amount of money they cost to me doesn't justify the difference they make - I've never actually broken a string at a gig, but if I did I'd just switch guitars :P

Re prices: the Japanese list price for the spalted maple J-Custom is ¥315,000 (but I saw 2 in one shop, cheaper and better looking than the one on the website),
The jigsaws are ¥246,750 for the maple/maple and ¥231,000 for the maple/ovankol. That works out about #1473, #1154 and #1080 respectively(UK quids).
But don'te get too excited, the J-Customs are hard to get in the UK and when you do find them the price has magically gone up by several hundred pounds, and the jigsaws are very limited, 10 each in Japan. not sure about their availability overseas.

Hmm, what we could really do with is someone who lives in Japan that we could get to buy them for us and then ship them over...
Now who do we know that lives in Japan? :drink:

Marty Friedman? 8)
-
anna ohura? don't ask me how i know her...
-
Never heard of her either
-
paul gilbert is a frequent over there too
-
neck through too, right?
Some of them will be and some won't be... Ibanez does neck thru and bolt ons.
