Title: Any Mississippi Queen owners?
Post by: Louderthangod on August 08, 2006, 10:00:39 AM
What kind of guitars are you using them in?  What do they sound like in your guitar/rig?

I just ordered a set for a semi-hollow of mine that has trouble working with humbuckers.  The body sounds amazing acoustically...big and full and with humbuckers it always comes across as dark and muddy.  I have a Rio Grande bar-steward P90 in the neck and that seems like a nice fit.  I worry that it'll sound too thin or shrill in the bridge position...I want powerful, crunchy drive with clarity.  Anothe factor is that I tune down to B with 14-68's...this works great on my Flying V's (with Warpig's) but the resonance and warmth of the semi-hollow isn't anything like any solid body guitar.

Rigth...mines in th eneck of a superstrat stype guitar with an alder body...Their incredible touch sensitive so I can make them 'purr'' or 'bark' just by digging intot he strings more. Their very clear and articulate.

If you want ''powerful, crunchy drive with clarity''...you cant realy go wrong with these...

Havent used them live yet but im guessing that, due tot heir clarity and potential to drive out quite a bit of midrange power, theyd sit greatly in the mix...

Mine is in my chambered body Fender Esprit - it has all the grunt that you expect from a P90 - nothing shrill here.

Mine are in a Dean Psychobilly all maple hollow body. Very nice clear and puchy tone with some growl and twang. Plenty of muscle too, almost like a humbucker's. There's hardly any single coil hum.

I've had mine in for a few weeks now.  I really love the way it sounds.  Big, powerful, crunchy.  The natural resonanace of the semi-hollow seems to combine with the MQ's so that I don't notice any real volume drop from my Warpig loaded flying v or my Invader loaded v.  I think my 137 has finally found it's match.

I a pair of black ones in a Gibson Les Paul Special (faded red).

Hands down, that guitar was going to be sold because it was way too dark sounding with the stock Gibson PUPs...after throwing MQ's in it, it's become my favorite guitar. The edge of the P-90's plus the warmth of all mahogany makes for THE best blues guitar sound to my ears (I'm sick to death of strats and Teles)

I'm looking at picking up another pair, but this time in chrome. They will promptly be going into this:
