Title: Next BKPs
Post by: Dakine on August 09, 2006, 06:04:35 PM
OK, well, now gotten my MusicMan Petrucci over here.
Fiance came to visit (not able to move now till next year, long sad story) and brought it with her.
It is the 2005 Limited Edition with Piezo.
So, what pups to put in this one.
I have a Custom SG still in Texas with Warpigs.
Gibson Explorer here with Custom Warpig set.
So, ya kinda get the kinda music I like :)
The MusicMan pups bolt directly to the body of the guitar.
Anyway, thinking Calib. Miracle Man set, thoughts. Also, open pole maybe reverse zebra (straight black in there right now) as it is a 'aged white' colour, i.e. creamy.
My listening is Metallica,Pantera,BLS etc. I still have a Les Paul in US which will probably be my more 'Rock' axe compared to 'Metal'.
Anyway, pretty sure on MM but open to opinions. Don't think I can wait for Painkillers as Tim intimated they would not be available till the Show in November.

I'm thinking you may have it spot-on, actually, but what colour is the guitar?  Link to picture of yours or similar?

Miracle mans are great, absolute monsters my favourites of the high output BKP's.. although the Nailbombs are also fantastic, and apparently they're incredible in Basswood bodies.

The Music Man JP's are great guitars used to have one sold it about a year ago though, shame.

Yep, think MM's is the ticket.
Here is a link to the guitar;

Reverse zebra? or?

Well, my first thought was double white!  But maybe that's too Fenderish .... Then I thought gold!  But it wouldn't go with the other hardware, I guess ....

Not sure!  The current black does seem a little uninspired.  But if you got a zebra with one cream, it wouldn't be so great of the pup's cream was slightly off from the guitar's cream (if you see what I mean).  Hmmmm ....

Don't think I will be painting brand new BKP's somehow.
Maybe Black bridge and zebra neck, or just reverse zebra. Choices choices.

Let's face it: you want the reverse zebra. So do it! :)

Hi,

I have a petrucci and went throu various pickup choices ! I have a rebel yell set now which sound amazing.
Tim and I both thought the petrucci would be brighter than it is because of woods, trem etc. It turned out to work perfectly with the RY set. Sound amzing with both pickups tapped as well.
Thumping bottom end and loads of fat mids and cut. Wonderfull  :D
Nailbomb would also do the job, but I tried one in mine and prefered the Rebel yell set, neck pickup is great for shred/speed picking stuff.

Hope this helps.

Carlaz: I agree with you that the cream might look odd with the white guitar - maybe he could get a black and white zebra...

Dunno if that could be done, but white might lok better than cream - just a thought :drink:

Maybe pic is not great. The guitar is the 2005 Limited Edition 'buttercream' think Gibson 'aged' binding. So cream (although maybe not same shade) will be better than stark white.
RY is an idea but am leaning more towards MM, unless Tim pre-releases the Painkiller

I was going to suggest a MM bridge and CS neck, but the RY set sounds interesting as it also has a CS neck, right? And the lower output Alnico bridge might be a touch more versatile than the MM and still be good for shred and the inbetween split position.

Nick: Although Tim hasn't officially released the Painkiller, it may be in a suitable state for you to "beta test" for him :P If you asked him he may make you one, especially as you're one of his better customers of late (do I remember 2 sets of warpigs over the past month or so?)

Can ask but Tim was having a signed US band test em awhile back and am not in that league (cept in me head :)), worth asking though :)

If you're paying for them, he might not mind making you some as they are currently...
