Title: wiring three p.u,in a Lp,,,Death City Detroiter needs some h
Post by: motormouth on June 10, 2005, 12:58:01 AM
Im trying to wire 3 humbuckers,in a Lp style guitar with a 3 way switch.Top position being the nck pu,middle being the middle pu,and down to the ground, bridge pu.This is really got me stumped!I got the power going to the switch, then back down to the pots, and the pus,to each corrisponding tag.Done this shite many times, just not with 3 pus, with their own volume control.Oh,and to top it off,an on off switch in one of the tone positions.(not a problem).Dudes,i really feel like crackin the dude with his guitar!Any help would be great guys,i almost started smashing it on the kitchen floor,or better yet, against the computer!!!!,YEAH!!!!   Nice review on the nailbomb,Mills, and nice licks on the mule clip too!you to hjm!

Thanks for the comments on the tracks!"

You know, I'm really struggling on this one....

I don't think you can do it on a standard LP switch. Don't allparts or stewmac sell a 3way for 3 pickup guitars?

There is a  special switch for 3 pickups - it has 2 full sets of wafers.  However you have to go with the original gibson wiring, bridge/bridge+mid or neck +mid/neck.  This is because the 2 wafers are moved by one switch.

You get:

top set outside and common wafers with the switch down
top set common and inside wafers + bottom set common and inside wafers with swich in middle
bottom set common and ouside wafers with switch up

You wire one HB to both sets of either top (if you want bridge in middle) or bottom (for neck) wafers, and wire both of the other HB's to the other set of wafers.

good luck   :crazy2:
