The modern ones are built in Korea, and they don't suck...

I've had one for a while now, and it's a great guitar, very similar to the late 70's IC200 with mahogany body, maple set neck with volute, and cr@ppy standard pickups (AH1 & AH2). ;)

Finish is really good, as are the inlays, and it hangs nicely on a strap (unlike the 90's basswood bodied IC200). I had a VHII in the neck for a while, and it really sounded good, but I've just swapped the Crawlers I had in my other Iceman into it and it roars! ;)

Aww - I was hoping that this was gonna be about an OLD Ibanez Iceman IC400.

I am a bit of an Iceman freak - just love em - especially if they are old ones

Guess it was a Kiss / Paul Stanley related love affair and I longed for a PS10 signature model as a teenager- or Brian May's guitar

I did eventually get a late 70s PS10 and wasnt so keen as i had been before.
it was a nice guitar but was really heavy.
I am still making myself a replacement to my own liking.
Used to guitar tech for Dressed To Kill (UK Kiss Tribute band now and then too)

10 years later I got to play Brian May's original Red Special in my workshop and that was a treat

Why?  There are guitars coming out of Korea these days that are better than US-made guitars double their price.

People have put me off Korean guitars by saying they are nothing compared to japanese made, so i'm trying to find a well built guitar.

Have you ever made one?

I have lusted after them since my first ever trip to a guitar shop, before i could even play.

I have tried to draw plans for my own version quite a few times but i always feel it looks damn stupid on the paper, but some elements of it have crept there way into my designs.  I can just never get that horn to look right!!

I am tempted to make a direct copy of one (something i dont usually do) out of limba and cover it with mirror tiles or something equally in yer face

there are some good Korean guitars these days
Any company that has got it's quality control sorted and is using good timbers is gonna do ok

Usually the hardware can be upgraded if need be and certainly the pickups, but otherwise good project guitars

I assume you mean made an Iceman as opposed to a Brian May guitar
Yes I have made quite a few of them
See pix below - these were all made before BKPs existed...

i know it's been said before, but that lower horn really couldn't look much more phallic, could it?  c--k rock indeed!

This is one of my designs that has a lot in common with an iceman, although obviously curvier and more similar to a fenandes ravelle.  I have tried to incorporate the phallic (if people insist) horn into some other versions of this but never been happy with the way it looked on paper.

It seems i cant find a shape similar to an iceman that is as cool so i will just have to steal the exact shape. The iceman with all the shiny stuff on it has got me thinking about my mirror  idea, i think i have seen it done somewhere but i cant remember where.  Anyway for the last ten years (before i had starting building guitars) i have been after a iceman with rectangular mirrors covering the face of it, probably 1"x2" mirrors or something like that.  It will have to be done!!
