anyone ever heard of a band called 'My Passion'?
well.... my band is playing a gig with them on the 2nd of september...
i
am
shiteting
myself!
:D
-
nice title, TO will be pleased...
:D
-
Way to go, Sam! Where's the gig?
-
and a place called the 'Hertford Marquee'... its not ACTUALLY a marquee...
its a club you see....
they supported someone famous but i cant remember who... but yer... around our area theyre HUGE....
-
Perhaps these are the ones as to quote their website :
02 - 09 - 06 - The Marquee, Hertford
http://www.mypassion.co.uk
They apparently have supported Placebo (so watch yourself Sambo) & The Killers (my sons current favourite band)
Good luck with the gig.
Rob...
-
yup theyre the ones...
and thanks rob
-
My band played with them at The Cavern in Liverpool back in May.
The music isn't my thing to befair, but they seemed ok at what they do :)
-
im with you brow, i dont really like their stuff... but its just theyre high profile thats rather intimidating
-
im with you brow, i dont really like their stuff... but its just theyre high profile thats rather intimidating
I didn't realise they were high profile to be honest! I think I walked in on them slagging us off because they didn't like our music and we have a keyboard player etc. But am I bovvered' lol
-
HAHAHA! you shoulda smacked one of em... the bloody posers
well theyre high profile DOWN HERE thats for sure... not THAT high profile... but they have like over 100,000 plays on their myspace... and have supported famous bands like i mentioned...
and anyway, ANYTHING is high profile compared to US... us being www.myspace.com/stonefieldonline btw, :D :D :D
but yer, you get the idea
-
Well, you need to get us some video clips of your gig anyway. I havent heard any songs by that My Passion band, but looking at their website puts me off, looks like some kind of rubbish mtv emo band.
Anyway, I like that song on your myspace, want to hear more now!
-
ill try and see what i can do media wise...
the only thin we have recorded at the moment is that demo track on our myspace, which has no singing, and the actual song has been updated since then too....
but yer, ill see what i can do indeed...
and yes thats a good description of them haha...
althuogh their first song on their myspace is quite synth-emo-rock... almost like Indys kinda ball park... not quiite...
-
I didn't want to use the E word when I posted the link (such a filthy word) so I kept my mouth shut (for once).
They look like they something the advertisement dept of a hair product company would come up with.
Hey Brow you should have stolen their hairgel and makeup (then again that may have ended their career).
Rob...
-
hahahah!
yer you know that shockwaves/wella ad i think it is.... of a fake band playing on stage... and the singers hair keeps getting in his eyes..?
reminds me of that...
-
I have had a look at their pics and I think they are practising for "comb overs" when they are older. I just love that pouting hair floopy on the side thing.Looks like Hitler on a bad hair day. Knock em bandy Sam.
-
love the hitler analogy hhaha
our style is so different to theirs though thats the thing.... so i dunno what the nights gonna be like
thanks beatle.
-
just to clarify- thats our style of MUSIC not our 'style'... we're not gay enough to have our own 'style'
-

That has brightened up my day totally.
Considering they they where on tour with Placebo I'm sure theu have been somethinged bandy bit it's not knocked ;)
Sam,
I hope your band are gonna wear floppy wigs when you go on stage, after all imitation is the sincerest form of flattery :)
Rob...
-
good luck sam, by the way, I forgot to mention that in my first post, lol.
-
I hope your band are gonna wear floppy wigs when you go on stage, after all imitation is the sincerest form of flattery :)
Rob...
HAHA! o robert...
i might have to put that forward at next practice... bearing in mind we would get attacked by a large number of young Emo kids....
i think it would be worth it though... and my ESP has a partciularly pointy headstock anyway....
-
i might have to put that forward at next practice... bearing in mind we would get attacked by a large number of young Emo kids....
What are they gonna do, cut themselves and bleed on you?
I went and watched the My Passion clip on their site and I have to say that I much prefer your music.
-

They may look at him in a sullen manner.
You could always hand out razor blades to the audiance that should keep them amused for weeks.
Just them them you are very depressed and they will join in ;)
Rob...
-

and Mark, thanks!.
-
:D Well done sam !!
Don`t let the buggers push you around !
:D 8)
-
hahah! cheers jt.
-
Sambo, swing that LP Junior and show them TONE
-
Not with that Line 6 pod he wont  :P
-
will do man
no-ones gonna appreciate us at all though...
*
so i might just go a bit mental... with a kind of "oh f*ck it" attitude...
-
Not with that Line 6 pod he wont  :P
hahahaha!!!
i dont use that live so :P
-
Thats good then :D I thought you sold the Laney?
-
nah im planning on though...
although then again... i keep thinking... a new set of valves could bring it to life... but im not sure...
-
Hey possibly sam can get some people from here in as his bands 'technical advisors' ;)
Rob...
-
any of you lads up for a night of emo-bashing?
-
Tell me how to get there and I'll come and support you - I'll start moshing with myself if I have to :drink:
The thing you have to try and do is really show them up - if people see you and are like "omg they're amazing" and then see the emo shitee and think "meh they weren't as good as "Sambo and Friends" (or whatever you're called) and you'll instantly be top of the tree, and people will all say "remember sambo and friends? they were better than that band that supported placebo what were they called again?"
-
Get some friends to scream request for your band during the mypassion gig, have you ever seen School of Rock, then you know what I mean:)
-
haha yeah do what hunter says :P
-
Do a good show. Hope it goes well!
-
hahah! cheers guys, interesting ideas.
if anyone is close enough and wants to go (not just for us but for the night in general)...then i can get you details e.t.c..
and of course the more people go the more money we get... so why dont ALL of you just come please? :D
-
I dunno how far away it is from me, but I might be up for a trek if I'm not working - what day of the week is it?
-
Yes, there is an appalling lack of information available!
Where, when, etc are the norm when you're trying to get ppl to attend a gig!
-
2nd september (Saturday)
I would have been tempted, I will be back at home as my son is starting secondary school that week so I want to be there for him.
Rob...
-
I've just discovered it's a 3 and a half hour train journey from here to hertford (as they're doing work on our line) and I'm working 'til 5 - so I'd unlikely leave before 6, meaning I'd arrive at 9.30.
However, I did just listen to "My Passion" on myspace, and I have this to say: If the opportunity to stab the singer arises, please take it - I'd willingly take the blame (credit) for it :drink:
-
hahah!
yer well me being a total complete rock star dont know the time...
but yer 2nd of September, Saturday... it'll start like 7 on wards probs...
and deg0ey! hhaahhahahaa
watch the VIDEOS... oh my god.... i almost cried.
-
y'all best hope "my passion" don't see this thread!
-
To be honest blue, from the state of their myspace profile they need putting back in their place
Let's comment their myspace with a link to this thread!
-
oh dear! ohhh dear!
lol, well nah they wouldnt see this cause i doubt the guitarist(s) would care that much about tone...
and if they did theyd probably have to get a 'stylish' pickup...
have you seen all the stuf about how as a band theyre creating a new style not just making music?
its a load of balls.
-
lol, well nah they wouldnt see this cause i doubt the guitarist(s) would care that much about tone...
Some people with egos of a certain size (or who are checking to see how good their publicity is) are likely to google themselves and read whatever comes up.
-
A Bit of a trek for me too Sam-I don't think I'll be able to get there in time to see you anyway so get someone to video it. I don't think I will be gigging on account of my partner in crime (Twisted Adonis) having damaged one his Achilles tendons.I have had an idea though, you could undermine their pouts by telling them really funny jokes.
-
When I played with them in May, the 2 guitarists (plus keyboard player that sometimes played guitar) all had Solidstate Randall half stacks and they all sounded like ass to me!
So I don't think they're THAT bothered about guitar tone etc
To be honest, they were more bothered about throwing shapes and posing than guitar tone 8)
-

mmm indeed good point mark...
and ahhh too bad 38th, ill see what i can do video wise, ill have to see who was a decent cam.
brow, have you got any hints/tips? is there anything i can do to really piss em off? lol...

I bet they were something ridiculous like 50000 Watt half stacks as well - just so they look cool
EDIT: Like the guy I know who says he has a 200 watt valve amp, when it's actually a Marshall DSL - he has a 200 watt speaker cab and doesn't seem to know the difference
-
and very stylish of course...
colour coded i imagine...
-

hahaha I bet they fight over which one matches their outfit best before a gig as well.
-
   i wouldnt put it past them...
i mean seriously... the bio on their myspace is like a poem... and the singer looks so much like a woman in their first video its untrue.
-
oh dear! ohhh dear!
and if they did theyd probably have to get a 'stylish' pickup...
The pickup would have to have a comb over
-
haha! yup of course... it would be a new type of coiling...
-
I guess this is kinda related to the topic on hand... I just saw this avatar on HC and thought it was bloody hilarious
http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/avatar.php?userid=36056&dateline=1150189225
-
Well that was several minutes of my life I will never get back (I spent some time on their website :( )
I have to say thats the worst keyboard setting I have ever heard.
So I nominated them in a certain section of holeymoley.co.uk.
Sam please go onstage and do us proud, if I wasn't going to be in Belfast that day I would be there to cheer you on !
I will check out your bands myspace entry if my ears ever recover from the atonal yelping they have just suffered.
rob...
-
hahahah!!!!
well we only have on track which is old, and with no singing...
but the bright side is you wont want to ironically cut yourself after listening to it...
and i will try and you lot proud lads, hopefully maybe knock them down a peg or two... david and goliath stylie.
-

Play for yourselves (plus family and mates), as those lot probably wouldn't even realise that they had been brought down a peg or two.
Hey I don't want to cut myself after listening to them (I want to cut them :) )
You could always learn the dracks they have released and play them first in your style (but you may never get booked again)
From the rules of modern life: When someone dies, an Emo gets a haircut.
Rob...

thanks for the hilarious (and surprisingly good) advice as always rob mate.

I agree with the wanting to cut them :drink:
And Sam, I think taking Rob's advice would be hilarious for all concerned (except the other band) or at least play their single (if they have one) and then change your band's name so you can get more bookings
-
just to clarify- thats our style of MUSIC not our 'style'... we're not gay enough to have our own 'style'
What about the hats? ;)
Muttley
-

Not listened to their music yet (at work), but I don't see dressing and looking exactly like early Depeche Mode is making a "new style".
its a load of balls.
Indeed it is. In fact you should make a visual statement about that when you play with them. Rock out with your c--k out young man. ;)
Muttley
-
Their web site is pretty good I must say, seem very much like posers with the whole New Romantic thing going on. It sounds like it'll be a fun gig :D

but the rest of you fools... are ignorant to the way of the hat.... so cannot pass comment.
-
Yeah, but we have all seen pics of the hat, remember (we certainly won't forget  ). :P
-
*violently shakes fist* grrrrr!
-
brow, have you got any hints/tips? is there anything i can do to really piss em off? lol...
Just go up there and do your thing mate!
Also, several of their guitarists had wireless units, so be prepared to see them running and jumping around etc.
Are you really THAT bothered if a bunch of Emo kids don't like your band!
-
oh damnit theyre gonna be going mental eh?
deary...
and nope lol, id actually like it if they DIDNT like use... cause it would confirm that we are nothing like them..
-
errrr sam....i have that recording of us in the hall, sounds a bit poo quality wise and the PA sounds like it was set to "underwater".
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pageartist.cfm?bandID=590626

-

How many have they got, from that description it could be Lennard Skinnard (deliberately misspelt to show my comtempt (perhaps))
Rob...
-
sorry lads my internets broken, at mates house (drummers to be precise)...
thanks for the kind words, and Rob i think its just two geetatrists they have... i think...
and Johnny the drummer here is very pleased with your comment regarding his performance, and has requested that i use this particular smiley as a sign of gratitude:
-
Sam, I hope you and the guys really do well.Be sure to tell us how it went-I would love to come but cannot get there in timeas we have to close Mrs 38th's shop and cash up and stuff.
-
cheers 38th, no worres about not being able to come...
i must come and see your lot some time!
-
Good Luck Sambo with the gig and all- take some immac ( or other proprietry brand of hair removal product)and put it in their shampoo in the dressing room- that'll give them sounding to pout about.
-

i'm shocked!! i always took you to be a nice sensible kinda guy! did you go on the beer after work today or something? :o
or do you work for immac??
-

38th is an old trickster... wouldnt wanna run into him in a dark alley...
-
Ahem..sorry Blue, don't know what came over me, I do apologise old chap.( stage whisper...go get 'em Sambo).
-

hehe
well... the gig has just been played.... My Passion looked positively RIDICULOUS i must say... they really did just look STUPID.... and their music was tight and well played, but definately not for me...
the rest of the bands were terrible... thats not me being arrogant or anything... they were just... so... soo terrible... ill find their myspaces for you guys soon so you can cringe...
oh apart from one of the others (there were 5 in total including us), who did some covers... they were alright.
we were worried about there being no one around when we came on... (cause we played last)... cause the crowd was thinning out slowly... (not that it was much of a crowd in the first place).... but it was ok in the end....
one of the sound engineer guys apparently asked where we were from and said "i like them.... theyre good".... which is pretty cool... also... the crowd My Passion attracted wasnt all that big.. and was made entirely of emo kids... whereas our crowd (only a little bit smaller i might add) was made up of average teenagers and anyone else normal.... which was pleasing...
the venue was a lot smaller than we thought though... and could barely fit that many people to be honest... but it was a great experience...
oh and i got to use a Hughes and Kettner stack which kicked serious fuc*ing arse..
oh and also... My Passion were really nice guys in their defence.
-
we were worried about there being no one around when we came on... (cause we played last).
Ahh, you mean you HEADLINED! :) :)
-
technically yer! lol!! for some WEEEEIRD reason... seeing as it was our first/second gig!?!??!!?!
-
:D Good i`m pleased it well !
Also good to hear that the other bands were easy enough to get on with that allways helps when you`ve got alot of bands on the same bill :D
:D 8)
-
cheers man, yer it was a cool evening... the My Passion guys were really friendly and didnt make a fuss about us using their gear which was cool... and i had a little chat about guitars with their guitarist...
cant wait for the next one.
-
it's cool that they were cool, shows the truth about the whole book/cover story! we may not like their music, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't do it, or that they're not good musicians.
god, my whole hippy "i love everyone" head is on tonight, what the fjkjkj was i doing tonight???
oh yeah, glad the gig went well Sam, may there be many more, and hopefully some of us'll get to see you (hat 'n all!!)
-
Nice one Sam- perhaps they read the thread and thought they'd better behave or else. I must say that over the years I have been playing ( and that is a lot) I have found mostly muso's to be a great bunch-if a little eccentric at times and have only had one of two nasty moments usually involving prima donnas.I am glad it went well- heres to the next one.
-
thanks a lot chaps., means a lot.
and yup ~Blue- what you said was exactly right....
and even in my really short time in music, ive found it to be like you said beatle... where msot people are a good bunch...
ive got a really cr@ppy picture somewhere that i'll try and put up some time...
-
Mr 38th must have scared them ;)
Glad it went well and that they where decent folks too.
As a person who cannot even play infront of a guitar tutor I'mm glad your nerves didn't get you :)
Rob...
-
i supported Arch Enemy in sheffield about four or five years ago, also played at willow festival in peterborough on a saturday night at 9pm.. totally huge crowd.
-
i supported Arch Enemy in sheffield about four or five years ago
Not showing off at all, eh james? :drink:
-
haha cheers rob...
and yer James stop stealing my thunder!
-
Yeah.. well I played at someones 40th birthday party!! how shite.
Glad it went well for you though
-
Sam, has your booking fee skyrocketed after that gig? If, for example, I wanted you to play at a gig I'm (considering) organising somewhere or other, what should I expect to pay for your services?
-
cheers tom...
lol degoey i really hope that was all a joke... lol...
(just in case it WASNT lol: that was our second gig ever! we dont have a booking fee!)
-
 It was a joke, but I am considering holding a gig soon - so if you can get your band down to sussex you're welcome to play :P
-
Nothing wrong in charging a fee Sam even if you just cover your expenses.
-
Nothing wrong in charging a fee Sam even if you just cover your expenses.
Exactly, if you were gonna play my gig ( prolly never gonna happen, but still...) I'd at least pay for you to get here :P
-
duude! wed be very up for it...
if your serious about it just let me know...
fee-wise.. hmm i dunno... i dont wanna get too ahead of ourselves..
-
 It's sorta summat that I'd like to do, but don't really have the money for - I may do it next summer to raise some cash for uni...I know some local bands that are cool, so getting a line up together wouldn't be too hard - and I know a guy with access venue so I can get that together as well
The problems come in with the council, and having to let the people in the surrounding area know what's going on and stuff, and actually being able to finance the whole thing...
If I do ever get it together, I'll be sure to let you know :drink:
P.S. Maybe we could do a collaboration on something for a laugh :P
-
ah cool wicked...
collaboration? of what? lol
whatever it is im up for it...
actually wait... no.. not WHATEVER it is... i dunno what sick ideas you might have... :P
-
 We all dress up in womens clothes, and do a tribal dance around your hat :drink:
Nah, I dunno really - would take some thinking about methinks
-

indeed twud...
get thinking... .... ... yes now.
