If I may offer a constructive suggestion- a tad slower and more relaxed- good tone though.

slower in the main riff or slower overall ????

i think a little slower in the riff, the original has a kind of relaxed funkiness to it, although the extra speed sounds good when the riff comes back in at the end, like a kind of manic climax!  nice to see someone realising you don't need massive amounts of gain for rock.

ah, i see, the extra speed's from all the caffeine!

Ahh such a great solo!

I once started recording a metal version of this song, pinch harmonics, divebombs and everything  Maybe I'll finish it one day

although i'm curious as to how that would sound, my dedication to Page's sound quite specifically forces me to say....

"that's just a terrible idea"

but in reality, give it shot

Yeah, I know what you mean, afterall I'd hate to butcher a great song.. then again it was fun to do.

Slower overall CJ- loosen up a bit and you'll get it nailed nicely.

As the guys said less tense and bit slower (get a vibe going)

Other than that keep on playing

Rob...

But wheres the bit that goes tish tish (listen to the trace Whole lot of age from this page http://www.xtc4u.org/drunken.html for an explination)

OK, just recorded a slightly slower version

i think that even still it is slightly too fast, but i played it slower, and it got a bit boring after a bit, so....

Caffine, if you cut it down then you'll find the groove! It's uptight and tence. V2 is too IMHO.

Try a swift half and listen to the original, get that groove in your head and then play, give it 10 mins then hit record.

Nice solo by the way

i tried what you said, and no matter what i do (even drinking - helps me relax and get into music much easier) it still sounds the same, i think its more to do with the way i strum, as i don't usually play chords at all

Try panning the original in one speaker and recording your version in the other - then remove the original when you've finished recording. That's a surefire way of making sure it's the right speed.

Lay off the coffee and red bull! Your brain doesn't need all that to work mate! A bit's ok but I feel your caneing it!

Fruit juice will give you a natural high if you give yourself time to allow your body and mind to adapt. Anyway I'm not going to go all Gillian McKeith on you!   Can you see why dudes like Bob Marley were so good at what they did and why?  8)

That is better- as you say, still slightly fast but as Johnny said, learning to relax into the thing is a hard thing to do.You timing was not bad though-did you use a click track or metronome? Timing is extremely important in music ( like comedy really which I have never mastered)-sorry, I am sounding like a patronising git and I don't intend to.

nah, it's kool, i need taking down a step or two :D

the timing was just in my head, i thought i had left too long between the different parts of the solo, or was that just me ????

Ahh bless him!! :D

Play along with the track Caffeine, (I'm going to have to call you Ocean Spray from now on to encourage you!)

It'll burn into your brain the more you play along to it. The more you play an amended version of something the harder it is to rectify it.

Good luck and keep the fire in your belly!
