Title: Yet another new kid wanting a pickup recommendation...
Post by: AlexF on August 19, 2006, 06:13:52 PM
Hey guys, i've just ordered an American H-S-S strat as I needed something a bit more versatile than my ESP, and i'm faced with the tricky task of finding a set of pickups that will turn my little strat into a fire breathing beast. I'm looking for a bridge humbucker that will let me do Zakk Wylde type heavy stuff (i know thats a lot to ask from a strat), and a couple of single coils that will do blues rock through to hard rock. I think you can only buy the H-S-S sets in certain combinations, although im guesing this is just so that you get pickups that go well with each other, and not a humbucker that completely overpowers the single coils. Anyway, I think the obvious choice for me seems to be the Miracle Man and Trilogy Suite set, but i'd just like to know what you guys think, especially Tim if he's around. Anyway, cheers for your time.

Miracle Man all the way!!!!!!
I'm not good with single coils though so i'll leave that to someone else.

In my experience i think the MM would be a little too bright in a strat. Maybe Nailbomb, it really beefed up my strat and rocked!
To match i would say Irish Tours,my opinion.

yeah...i totally get what you say about the miracle man...im guessing it was designed with a les paul in mind...

on another note....how about the Holy Diver? From what i've heard it's a bit darker than say a Nailbomb, but would it be able to do the modern stuff as well?

Yes, but will need to re-EQ accordingly. It definitely has enough drive to do both classic rock, hard rock, and metal.
