I've been promising WFD to post a clip of the Miracle Man in my Les Paul for ages - also give you all a taste of what the Randall sounds like too.
The tone ain't bad on this recording but it's a bit sharper than it is 'in the flesh'.
-
aahahahah shite, excellent RIFFAGE!
you think itīs SHARP? ahahah You doesnīt Dial in enough highs and mids.
but i $%gin Liked the tone
ahahahahahahaha
Very Raunchy!
Q:p
and it sings for Leads!
which one of the leads are with the neck pup!?
jp
THANKSSSSSSSSSS
-
Nice tight riffage HTH! :D You and JP should get into an aural assault! One in the left speaker and one in the right and go mental!
Nice little lead lines too! 8)
It sounds good your amp. I saw those at the LGS. Are they the ones that you can put different pre-amps in :?:
-
That is some $%ing heavy riffage, sounds more like a Warpig to me! I like your tone, what music are you into?

Thanks JP, yep the tone is good from these pickups and amp. actually... I'm gonna listen to it through my hi-fi as these laptop speaker made everything sound tinny. (5 minutes later)... scr@p what I just said, the tone on that clip is pretty much how it sounds in real life.
The first lead section is the neck pickup - I never thought it would sound very good in that position but it really sings.
The second lead section is the Miracle Man - hell yeah!!!

cheers JM, I'm really into this amp - its a Randall Titan. fully solid state but it just works for heavier styles of music. The clean is really nice too but the overdrive channel bleeds through - if I turn the dirty channel's gain to zero there is no bleed through and the clean sounds spot on.
I'm up for a collaboration with JP though I'm not sure I can keep up with him - he's a pretty awesome player, I'm more meat & potatoes.

I was going to have a go with him last year and i felt the same as you, but your into this stuff where as i can listen to it and have a mess around with it. Jp is up for online jams arn't you JP!! Go on you know it makes sence!

heh, I used to have a Warpig and it was f'in huge with this rig but not quite as defined on the low end when I played faster riffs. The Miracle Man is perfect AND I can get clean tones when required.
As for music, I like lots of different stuff but the stuff that has influenced my style mustly would be... Slayer, Sabbath, AC/DC, Zep, Free, Pantera, Cream, Metallica, early Jeff Beck, Hendrix, Stooges.

well, I'll have a go if JP is up for it - need someone to provide a backing track as my drum machine and bass are long gone. my studio is a shadow of it's former self but I'm get round it somehow.

Cool!! My groove agents too funky for this idea, Maliciousteve, Lepameesa could be helpfull though.
-
Nice tone, I'd prefer a bit more mid and treble though.
-
I'll wait for those dudes to chime in and see what happens.
btw, here's my EQ settings (they make a BIG difference to the way the amp sounds) - the KFK EQ RULES!!!
-
Great stuff- sounded huge even on my PC speakers. Not my sort of music meybe but I can see the fun in riffing away like that. T'would be great to see a riffathon with you and WFD. Riffs across the Atlantic.
-
Those KK 10 B MXR units are getting some great reports! Dakine sounds like his raising hell with the one in his rig! It's got a nice dark sound your tone which fits your music really well!
Hmmm.....
Shall I or shan't I :?:
I had this Idea for a guitar with a Warpig, a KK MXR EQ and me Koch. Piggsy! After the smelly bloke in Manhunt!
I'm into my Jeff Beck vibe at the moment. Not that it sounds anything like him! January is a good time of year for me and utter filthy evil liver mangling riffs! That's what brought me to BKp's in the 1st place, a warpig. Still not got around to that one. Soonish..I've got this Feline LP to get finished, love, bond with. Not to mention pay for!!

Im Always Up For A jam.
iīm kinda Busy right now and lazy with my guitar, but i can still reap some riffs out of it.
my main problem is the Recording quality ITSELF.
i donīt have ways to properly mic the 5150. No Soundcard etc.
So, the riffs will Sound Flawed . :(
Unless you give me another option.
i want to do a collaboration Riffage to make/complete one song, with you here guys, and then, we divide the leads. Q:)

hmm, that will be a problem if we're gonna try and do this. I'm back to using a cassette-tape 4-track too, so it's not ideal.
you're gonna need a half-decent soundcard so you can track direct to HDD and a way to monitor the output when overdubbing - i.e. you need a mixer.

That sounds great, but once again it all depends on the recording gear people have at their disposal.

 Is you camcorder digital JP? See if you can record using that and get it into a pc. Convert to mp3 and send that way. Just an idea

Hummmmmmmm INTERESTING Idea
its a digital camera
sony dsc p52
do you know this one?
OLD SCHOOL. ahahahah

That's a pretty deep tone you got there. Almost sounds like a Warpig.

cheers Ratrod - bear in mind that the amp was barely moving any air either (bedroom volumes).
the real secret to that tone is the EQ settings on the MXR KFK pedal in the loop.

Hey man the tone is insane on that one. It actually bears a large similarity to mick thompsons tone on slipknot's subliminal verses album. Which is known to me as the best metal tone ever recorded. Could you post the same riffs without the eq. I wonder if that eq is what i've been craving.
thanks man.

i really enjoyed these clips! shows what decent solid state can do!

wow, you actually own a 5150! is it an original??? aka Van Halen style.
-
I love the tone of this clip how it is! nice and authorative, fat and jucy, and Dark at the same time. How much did the randall amp cost? It looks very well made!

JJ retro TONE god.

I'd have to set everything back up again so the tone would be different from mic placement and other variables.
Let me confirm that the EQ does indeed 'make' that tone. The amp was 95% there already but the EQ allowed me to zero in on the tone I want.
Buy one of those EQs mate, they really are THAT good - adjust each slider seperately and listen to what it does to your tone. Tweak with your ears and not your eyes.
btw, I love Mick Thompson's tone too - it is quite close since you come to mention it.

killer clip HTH, between you and WFD you've almost got me playing metal
...almost...

cheers man, I wanted something in the Ballpark of Pepper Keenan's tone on the Down albums mixed with the tight, detailed bass end that Dime had. I think I have it nailed now too. You'll never guess what speakers I'm using either
The Randall cost me Ģ320 but I think they were more like Ģ800 brand new. It's built like a f'in brick too, heavier than a 100w JMP Marshall.
Randall have released a 'new & improved' version called the T2 (i.e. Titan II) with a valve preamp but keeping the tranny output stage. I'm keen to try one but there's only a handfull of places in the entire country that actually stock any Randall gear (argh!!!).

That clip is perfect evidence that solid state amps can kick just as much ass as tube amps.

I'd say MORE ass in this case - 300w of brute power is nothing to be sniffed at. We tried my amp in a big rehearsal studio into a 300w Marshall 4x12 and were begging for mercy by the time the master was on 4.
Bear in mind that I will happily play a 100w plexi flat out and it's bearable - this Randall is just a f'in maniac.

Heavier Than Hell... what do you think of the CRATE GX series?

Hey JP, I've never really played much Crate stuff past a tinny practice combo with an 8" speaker that my mate used to have when we first started playing back in the late 80's. It was pretty dreadfull.
I remember the clips you did with your Crate amp - that tone was very good as far as I remember.
I'm sure the newer stuff is pretty decent, most are these days. I've been impressed by recent Peavey tranny gear too and even the little Marshall practice combos.
I think what Randall has above any of the other manufacturers making tranny gear is that they're made VERY, VERY well and are not just 'budget' or 'starter' amps till you save up to buy a big valve amp. Randall caters to a specific market and nails it perfectly.

Crate VC50. Old local shop near me had a blonde one, that thing SANG.
It was awesome, fond memories of the shop guy playing Crazy Train on it with his 86 (I think) Kramer Stagemaster Deluxe which he'd owned from new, and it was in MINT condition.. the Crate made anything sound good, and good stuff sound awesome... dont get me started on the black LP 25/50th Anniversary.. who said you needed EMGs for Zakk Wylde squeals ;)
Never managed to find a similar VC50, only the newer versions and they are few and far between.
The Randall sounds like a less focused ENGL Fireball... pretty similar but the ENGL was alot 'tighter' and slightly warmer.. although not as loud! I think the Randall might have more gain aswell... nice amps i almost bought one of the switchale tube ones but i thought 'hmm GAS will strike with all the options available'
I did have a Dime Combo Randall, one of the camo cheapy ones, was one of the better practice amps... face melting gain!
-
awww holy shite man, so much for my clip sounding heavy..
Love the sound of that amplifier I know what i'll be getting if i need a metal tone ever lol..
