Title: Deep stuff
Post by: Jonesy on August 21, 2006, 09:56:41 PM
Right, its present time again...I need a Humbucker for the bridge of a mahogany modies super strat superstrat...more than anything im gona want it for clean and im wondering which one would give me the deepest clean sound?...The Nailbomb has a very nice deep clean tone but is there another BKP which beats it?

Im planning on using it with a lot of chorus and flange (imagine a very soulfull equatic type sound I suppose...kind of  like 'the cure's disintegration album

Any suggestions will be much appreciated

Rory,

Riff Raffs and Rebel Yells should be given a little listen, as too the Abraxas. If I were to put one BKP in a mahogany body/bridge it would probably be the rebell yell. The riff raff reminds me of SG pickups, maybe thats why they got the name - Angus Young?

Ye I thnik so...the description of the Riff Raffs seems pretty similar to Angus's tone too...

The Abraxas is looking good in the neck (if I can stretch to it)...Im thinking of getting that with a VHII in the bridge. Do you reckon a lower output pickup in the bridge would be a problem?

I bought the abraxas for the neck of my guitar, but it isnt built yet so I cant try it out, lol!

Havent a clue on the lower output I'm afraid, I'm not quite that experienced yet. :?  If you're flicking backwards and forwards in the same track/set list I could see it messing you around a little, but if you're just using it for jamming at home or your got time to adjust amps then I doubt it would matter.  :?

you would probably have to get Tim to wind it slightly hotter so that it would match, but it shouldn't make a huge difference

The Rebel Yell gives a great sound clean - especially if you can use series/parallel switching.

my mule gives a very nice clean tone, but its a very vintage sound, it's not superclean, there's lots of overtones. Mind you it's not a high output p/up. Depends what you like?

I really like my rebel yells clean, IMO it beats the nailbomb which was pretty good as well.

Ye, im guessing that the Rebel Yell might have a slightly more modern sound to an Abraxas?...more bright and defined aswell?

The warpig gives a beautiful deep clean sound, which it shouldn't but it does
