That foam isn't really likely to offer much help in terms of soundproofing, I'd look more to building a bigger outer box and whacking some rockwool in it* with another box inside, the acoustic treatment foam would then be usefull for dispersing any unwanted sound reflections inside the box. It's not a bad idea though.  :)

Edit: * Whilst wearing all necessary protective clothing, rockwool is pure evil.

just wondering how one could make it look good

an MDF box like this is quite ugly to have around

maybe some dark pink tolex?

But how to round the corners ?

:)

The posibilities are endless; paint, vinyl, fitting wood laminates etc.

I've been thinking about doing something like this lately, though I can't decide whether I should build a box like that or do a whole room.  Hmm.

Thanks for the link!  :)

Soundproofing a whole room is always preferable but is very costly and can be quite complex. Unless you have quite a lot of experience with carpentry etc. i'd advise against it as a DIY project. Getting it done professionally is horrendously expensive also.

I have a friend who's a pro builder/renovator try to talk me into it the other day. Plus, my father-in-law knows a fair bit about building.  So that side of things shouldn't be any trouble.  It's just the money and sacrificing a room in our house.

"Dear, we don't really need to have a master bedroom, do we?"
