This threads pretty pointless but I'm excited coz I passed my driving test today :D:D:D 3rd time taking it as well. I only got 8 minors which isnt too bad I guess :)
-
Nice one!
I'm guessing that the driving test in England is more difficult than here in the US; most people pass on the first time out here -- and they're idiots!!
-
Well done _tom_
TO, more diff.?! OMG yes. I could'nt believe the simplicity of my Texas driving test compared to my UK one years ago!
-
Congrats Tom, I still remember passing my test.
TO : don't worry we still have lots of idiots on the roads over here, Tom excepted of course.
Rob...
-
hahah yeah I heard in some states you only have to take the theory test, of 18 questions or something?! Thats bloody simple! Mums not letting me drive today, she says I'm too excited
-
well done matey!
you are Tom's Taxi from now on ;)
-
Congratulations!
It is certainly a useful thing to have against your name - opens up lots of new avenues! :)
Well done :drink:
-
Well done mate, but you know that when you go out with your mates you'll be Des from now on!
-
:D Nice One Tom !
:D 8)
-
nice work, tom!
I passed mine first time, but I think it got quite a bit harder just after I passed (teeheehee!)- I passed mine about 7 odd years ago- and we were allowed unlimited minor faults, if I remember correctly, as long as you didn't have 3 or more in any one section (checking mirrors being an example of a section). We also didn't have to do parking in a car park, that again was introduced pretty soon after I did mine.
Am I right in thinking that you fail now if you get something like 15 minor errors, nomatter which section it is?
so yeah, I guess I'm trying to say, well done, tom, and as far as I know, most people don't pass it first time now, as they did when I did it- I think there was a clean run of 12 in front of me who passed (EDIT: at my school), so I was cacking it when I did mine, lol- though it later came out that someone hadn't told people that they'd been doing their test, and had failed...
Nice work, tom! It's awesome being able to drive. now you have to start doing laps of your local town centre...
:D

Imagine, all these Guitar Shops which are WITHIN DRIVING DISTANCE!!!
:)
-
Congratulations Tom- really pleased for you.
-
Congrats, Tom. It's cool to be legal on the road.
Only thing is now you're gonna find out about all the annoying gits out theer who drive too slowly/fast/badly/etc. ;)
-

hahah, problem is now you have to pay for petrol as well as the gear :P
Searcher, even before passing my test it was great fun to overtake cr@p learners and old people

Just remember what Mr Myagi said, 'Car can never replace hand, mind, and eye.'

I met the guy once, in Australia in the late 80s.
Well, I kinda met him. He was introduced to a bunch of us, not me individually. But still! 8)

todge yu'd better be at my house with ur guitar, amp and bike pretty damn soon  we're gonna really rock it up \\m//
-
I'm gonna do the pass plus thing before I drive by myself on motorways coz they scare me at the minute :P Once thats done though I will be there.. not bringing my amp tho, when I'm going to a house with a JCM800 :D
-
Went out for the first time by myself today, its great :D Empty, long and straight country roads = fun :P

with the exception of actually getting on to the damn thing (sliproads can be scary, especially busy ones like they're liable to be in england), i think motorway driving is pretty easy- it's a lot wider- I know I'd rather do 70 on a motorway than 40 on some country roads...
falling asleep is a major problem on motorways though, the boredom is what does it. it's the fastest way (by car) from a to b, but that also makes it the most boring...

You just have to keep an eye on the idiots for when they do something really stupid.
Slightly off topic, I loathe the section of the M6 from Stafford -> around preston as the driving is absolutely crazy.
For the sleepy bit crossing the pennines is bad especially in winter because you lose all radio reception so you have to fight not to get too dozy.
Rob...

congratulations mate welcome to Deathrace 2000 :D
-
Tom, go out on M-ways early morning before they get too busy.In some ways they are easier as , in theory at least, everyone is going in the same direction. There are tons of morons out there so watch out. Stay away from Nissan Micras driven by elderley people wearing hats.

Try driving in Texas where a hummer is pretty SMALL and there is NO overtaking policy on freeways(motorways) and the indicator is an OPTIONAL extra on cars sold AGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!
-

..
aye. you have to do that on all roads, but I suppose motorways normally are busier, so have more chance of having an idiot.
dakine: indicators OPTIONAL? :o

HHAHA! Are cars fitted with mind reading devices then so you know where people are going?! That has to be the stupidest thing ever..
-
Nope, just gotta drive as if EVERYONE is out to get ya.
Mind you having Police insignia in rear window and a semi auto on my belt helped :D
-

You ran over 8 kids and you still passed?
Seriously, though - well done!
-
 A few of my friends made similar jokes.. I just need to get myself a CD player and figure out how to set up my speakers properly so I get full surround sound instead of either front or back which I have at the minute :P
-
Ive only had seven lessons so far! :p
-
hehe its much more fun when you pass :D I want to go to a track day at silverstone... not in my fiat though
-
Well done tom! Are you going to get a big van now for Uk tours? :D
-
Tours? With what band?!
I actually wouldnt mind one of those VW camper things, but it'd take a lot of work to do up how I'd like one probably (dark red with chrome trim etc 8)). And I doubt they go very fast which is never fun :P

Camper vans V's speed! Well you can't have your cake and eat it! Give me a camper van 8) over a fast car any day! Fast cars are great but they are a money pit.
(That's coming from me who's just been shooting stills for the Cannonball Bike Run in the back of a souped up BMW d3 (a diesel) around 370bhp and 750 nm yes 750 of torque!!!!!)
See www.antandpete.com
-
I assumed that the VW campers would be also expensive to run as theyre old and probably not as many parts available now.
That BMW sounds like fun though, I dont know much about cars but you put the  thing after its specs so it must be good :P
-

there are loads of parts for VW campers just make sure you join a club. But they are slow(65 mph), rusty, overpriced(£17,500 for a good split-windscreen one) and they do 20mpg.
-
I take it 20mpg is bad? I dont know anything about what is a good fuel economy thing etc
-
20 mpg is very bad.
-
shitee in fact!
Tom there are Camper vans you can get that are better than split screens. Extreme example.
The shape called the transporter are good value. 1986 to sometime in the 90's.
My ex has a Bedford Rascal camper. It's so her.
-
Ahh right well I dont think I'll be getting one for some time :( One day though!
I did some research apparently my Fiat does about 35mpg... is that good?
-

Not too bad.
There are some Korean Diesels capable of 50 something mpg. They may even been topped now.
-
What fiat you got chap?
-
Seicento Sporting.
-
Use Marshall 4 x 12's on the back shelf man. It'll look well cool!
-
hahahah that would look quite good actually, or 2 Marshall 1x12s on each side of the shelf
-
And then get a roof rack for the PA.
-
Seicento Sporting.
Can't even pronounce that
-
haha I think its "say-chent-oh" or something like that
-
Try saying that when your are p*ssed...er perhaps not.
-
Reminds me of a beer in North Wales called 'Four Thumb'
