I haven't posted here for a long time mainly due to my computer being down  as well as some other things, but now my computers up and running i can post again. any way i was just wondering which guitar players you think deserve more recognition.
-
meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
:P
-
Fumihiko Kitsutaka
Mark Reale
Chriss Oliva
Kai Hansen
-
Adrian Legg (http://www.ardrianlegg.com) 8)
-
Kai Hansen +1
ALso his partner in crime Henjo Richter.
Both brilliant song writers, and they can shred aswell as do the blusier stuff.
I think black and death metal guitarists deserve more recognition, the guys from Necrophagist are beyond good... as are the guys from Opeth and Ishahn from Emperor.
Theres REAL talent behind alot of those bands, even more so when you realise they are usually one or two man projects at first.
-
Marcel Coenen
Kiko Loureiro
Charlie Hunter
Jeff Loomis
I'm sure there's more but i can't remember
-
my mate James .... you probs don't know him, but if it weren't for him i wouldn't have started playing guitar
that and Pete townshend, who is massively underrated
-
that and Pete townshend, who is massively underrated
I love Townsend as much as the next guy, but he's very well respected as a player.
Maybe his lead playing doesn't get mentioned enough though.
-
Jimmy Dawkins
Junior Kimbrough
Guitar Shorty
Andy Parypa
James Gurley
Stan Webb
Johnny Thunders
Scott Ashton
Dan Auerbach
...and many more.
-
The late Shawn Lane
Carl Verheyen
Ray Gomez
Michael Hedges
Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree
Preston Reed
Reb Beach
Damon Johnson

:D Hey March was it you who posted me about wide interval players ? If so matey who was it you suggested ?
As for Black Metal & Death Metal Players !!!! Don`t get me started....

Mark Kendall (great White)
Dave Meniketti (Y&T)
John Norum (Europe)
Check this clip http://youtube.com/watch?v=siYhAAIKch4
Wish Doug Aldrich would take notes from this guy on how to do a guitar solo spot.
Matthias Jabs (Scorpions)
-
yeah, agree with Feline, Mark Kendall played some outstanding stuff with Great White, which wasn't noticed because they were a "pop rock" band. same with Def Leppard, Steve Clark and, I think, Pete Willis ( if that names wrong, sorry ) were fabulous on their first three albums. and let's face it, Hysteria is the greatest "pop" rock album ever made!!
Adrian Legg was mentioned before, brilliant!
of course, the most highly rated underrated guitarist is George Harrison
-
:D Liked the John Norum clip good player :D
Didn`t like Europe i`m afraid they were far tp Processed a band for even my tastes !
:D 8)
-
Jeff Tyson of T-ride:
He was a student of Satriani and is featured briefly in the DVD "Satch Tapes" - His star was rising and then grunge hit, he was an unbelievable talent.
+ 1 for Mark of Great White..

TO will like this
is a jam with George Lynch, Gus G, some 20 year old japanese shred fiend, and a guy in a red pvc waist coat called Syu
SHRED ATTACK!
I think its off the japnese TV show that has Paul Gilbert and Marty Friedman having guitar battles with other players (guess the song, fastest lick, can you do THIS? type challenges).. they also have jams and duels on it.. we dont get anything like that on MTV
-
^
They are all ESP endorsers (endorsees? I can't remember). Syu plays in a band called Galneryus, not sure about the Omura guy but I think I've seen him in some of the guitar magazines here.

With the Kiss of DEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAATH!!!
You were correct.
What an amazing jam!!
Not totally fair, considering Lynch wrote the original. I love how Gus G picks up RIGHT WHERE Lynch leaves off ... the other 2 guitarists were pretty lost, and not really playing to the backing. I also love how Gus G played the original Lynch solo verbatim for the 1st part of the jam ... that guy's got class. Wish I was there ... I could do some damage over that backing!!
I would give my eye teeth to know what amp Lynch used there. His tone was INSANE! (Sounded like my Splawn! :) )
FIYAH POWA!!!
-
Oh, speaking of unsung/Japanese guitarists ...
How about the phenomenal Norifumi Shima from Concerto Moon?
That band ROCKS!! (I have all their albums, their live album, and their live DVD)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MV-KHSbAjB0
-
speaking of John Norum, don't forget Kee Marcello who played some beautiful solos on 'out of this world'...
...and speaking of beautiful solos I should also mention Vito Bratta...
-
not sure about the Omura guy but I think I've seen him in some of the guitar magazines here.
I saw on another clip that he does endorse ESP... it looks like it could be from the same sessions as that jam, hes sitting in front of a wall of H&K amps and a couple of other ones, has a red ESP strat.
I like his style, hes what 22yrs old? Doesnt get stuck in the Malmsteen sound alike playing either!
Loving that clip TO 8)
Hmm Gingataff.. know anywhere to get X Japan cds from where you live? ;)
-
me being primarily a blues/rock guitarist i would have to say i don't think some of the blues slide guitarists get hte recognition they deserve such as derek trucks, duane allman, robert johnson and chris rea.

I remember going to see Chris Rea in the mid 80s and he was amazing, originally I didn't want to go because I had only heard his whimpy ballads.
Oh how wrong I was
rob...
-
^ that's what most of the people i know think of chris rea but if you actually listen to his less mainstram, more bluesy stuff like the stuff on dancing down the stony road or blue guitar you realise how good he is. that's just my opion though.
-
How about
Goncalo pereira and Vitto Bratta? both incredibley tallented with great sense of melody and phrasing.
-
this is the WINNER right here.. Mr Shred himself...

Where do you find this funny ass Sh*t?
-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56TqnexgzIA
I can't decide which is funnier :
1 : At the start when he does his elvis on the toilet impersonation (just before his terminal decline)
2: The over dubbed 'music'
3 : the comment from GuitarMan91 "you should have left the original guitar audio in the video so it doesnt sound like cr@p."

Where do you find this funny ass Sh*t?
I've been ill recently so just by loads of YouTube searches, it pops up with random vids.
Also just by keeping an eye out on forums ;)
The Yngwie one is funny aswell (Super God Lesson).
Theres a few John Pretrucci ones around aswell, the best is where he plays in 92/64th hyper speed time and peoples heads explode
-
André Olbrich and Marcus Siepen from Blind Guardian
and
Mikael Åkerfeldt and Peter Lindgren, both from Opeth

:D Yep they are great i`d have to say "Enigmatic Calling" was for me the best album of last year loved his solos on "Entrance To Infinity" & Resurrection [ Back In Time] I just hope there next album is as good to be honest
:D 8)
-
I need to get the first album 'Infinity Divine', i have 'Celestial Entrance' and 'Enigmatic: Calling' though. 'Celestial Entrance' is one of the best prog/power albums ever imo.
Gotta love, Ennnnnntrraaaaaaaaannceeee to infiiiinnnittttyyyyyy. lol!
-
Michael Tighe/Jeff Buckley
Prince
Paul Simon
Sting
-
To me at the moment its John Squire - I am about 15 years behind everyone else.
-
Underrated more than anything:-
Steve Lukather.
Tal Farlow.
Steve Cropper.
Johnny Marr.
Curt Kirkwood.
Bob Mould.
Tommy Victor.
Joni Mitchell.
-
Oh aye there are some good chaps at this link:
http://www.sonicbids.com/whosplaying/event_view.asp?event_id=459
They are all in the Guitar Player "Guitar Hero" competition , there is one fella called Segei Roudzinski, who is pretty awesome.
-
some that i have just remembered; claudio sanchez and bb king. bb may not be the quickest guitarist in the world but he manages to pay the right note just about every time, in my mind anyway.
-
How about non-guitarist influences?
I wish I could make my guitar do an impersonation of alicia keyes' vocals.
-
Guitarist : Syd Barrett, Marty Willson-Piper
Vocalist : Syd Barrett, Steve Kilby (The Church), Julienne Regan (All about Eve), Sandy Denny (Fairport Convention), Nick Drake

JT,
Sorry for the delayed response... but I honestly cannot recall, however I do like intervalic players!
Other than the obvious Eric Johnson recommendations, Shawn Lane 'Powers of Ten' contains loads of wide interval examples. Another very tasty yet underrated player from my initial post is Carl Verheyen who style wise sits between Eric Johnson and Robben Ford. Atlas Overload is recommended is you want to check his work out.
Another player to add to the list...
Michael Landau - Tales From The Bulge is a fantastic album. Jeff Beck meets Steve Lukather.
-
Ty Tabor (Kings X)
-
:D Cheers March it was Carl Verheyen. Already have Shawn Lane. Great Player.
:D 8)
-
Not exactly obscure, but I still think they don't get the attention they deserve(d):
Jake E Lee
Chris Poland
Michael Amott
Ulrich Roth
Robin Trower
Frank Hannon
Roy Buchanan
Randy California
Kyoji Yamamoto
Ronnie Montrose
Vernon Reid
Richard Lloyd
Alex Lifeson
Bruce Franklin and Rick Wartell
Woody Weatherman and Pepper Keenan
Chris Haskett
Robert Quine
Brad Gillis
Michael Landau
James Byrd
Dave Meniketti
Tim Sult
and +1 to numerous others already mentioned, like Bob Mould, Ty Tabor, Reb Beach, John Norum and Matthias Jabs...

Another Pagans Mind fan here. Caught them at the Prog Power festival in Cheltenham last March and to be honest they were by a mile the best band of the day. Jorn is some player.
-
Yesterday I listened to some old school Sepultura. Max Cavalera is probably the most underrated rhythm guitarist on the planet. So what if he played a cheapo drop tuned Warlock with four strings? Have a listen to 'Dead Embryonic Cells'. Excellent riffage!

I was going to go to prog power, but no one would go with me!
Pagan's Mind are the best prog/power band out there imo, Jorn is amazing.

Well, my new fave is Andy Timmons ( Andy Timmons Band), And like Townsend, Ted Nugent ( old Ted that is), is famous, but I never see him featured in Guitar mags . Wait, guitarone tabbed out Cat scratch, but, no interview or nothing. All the skynryd guitarists, especially Ed King, +1 for Jake E. Lee, Dave Fzyuzinski, Marc Ribot , Elliot Easton (Cars), Jimmy Nolen (James Brown) Leo Nocentelli (the Meters) and Actually, Frank Zappa if you think about it. Whew! THere's lots more, but....
-
That John Norum solo kicked ass. Whoa, I thought he was just a Yngwie wannabe too.
-
How did I forget this one?!
Danny Schmidt. An acoustic performer in the vain of great Nick Drake.
Check him out at http://www.dannyschmidt.com . in the songs section the track This Too Shall Pass is highly recommended listening.
The late Rainer Ptacek is another. 'Life Is Fine' is one of the heaviest songs ever recorded. For me heavy does not require highly distorted guitars and screaming vocals, but often songwriting with a vocal delivery that makes you think. In Rainers case Life Is Fine strikes a particular chord as the man was fighting a brain tumor at the time.
-
Stanley Whittaker (Happy The Man)
I was fortunate to have gotten some lessons from him almost 20 years ago, and I'm still trying to get some of those exercises right! :)
-
The guitarists from Testament!
Eric Peterson and Alex Skolnick, highly underated, always looked at as the poor mans Metallica, when actually they could out play Hammet anyday.
