The RG570EX has a floyd rose, which are good until you break a string :x
Personally, I can't stand them - I mean, they stay in tune, but restringing can take hours.
Once the novelty of a whammy bar has worn off, and you stop using it completely (not saying you will, but most people eventually do), you'll still have to put up with restringing those pain-in-the-arse floyd roses.
Though it could be annoying wanting to play Eruption or something and having a guitar without a whammy bar... :? :? :?

oops.. that was supposed to be a reply to someone else's topic.
 how embarrasing
OK, you'd best ignore this topic.

That's the spirit!

I think we should sticky this thread.

I was gonna spend a few hours restringing my floyd but now I've gotten too involved with this thread and the times flown by...
I'll have to put aside another day..
Damn...

Huh?!
*Looks at all his OFR-equipped guitars*

It might take hours to restring the first time or two you try, but I can restring mine in about 45 minutes if i'm not watching TV while I do it.
I wouldn't say the whammy bar is a novelty, it's just another tool to use while making music with your guitar. Obviously you have to be into the kind of music that utilises it, but I know I have created some unholy sounds using my bar  which you couldn't get without a FR.
But I see what you mean. Personally it's probably best just getting a decent liscened one instead of paying through the nasal passageways for one.
I just realised that the original poster meant this as a reply to some other topic

Do it one string at a time and use a stringwinder and you'll be done in under 10 mins
-
Now that's good advice! I was always warned off using stringwinders on my fixed bridge guitar because it doesn't wind it tight enough (and lets face it, if you go for it you can restring a tune-a-matic in about 6 minutes), but I suppose with a double locking system it's not an issue.
-
It takes me about 15 minutes to restring a Floyd.....
-
Even for somebody as inept as me a floyd is ok to string (15 to 20 minutes).
Unless I'm using a different string brand from normal or (even worse) changing gauge, it's horrible then :(
My 12 string is an hour minimum, cos I can't ever seem to get the same brand of strings twice (I'm glad I have never seen a 12 string floyd ;) )
I found changing strings one at a time (rather than removing them all at once) makes things a little easier on the floyd (without doing that on the 12 it takes a whole afternoon to change strings)

haha, awesome.
hard luck, man.

The RG570EX is actually a Lo-Pro Edge i think.
-
You can also wedge something under the back of the Floyd to stop it moving temporarily. Do one string at a time, use a string winder - do it on a clear table with a towel or something soft under the guitar.
Put on a long song that you like on the stereo and get stuck in
-
i got one of those tremol-no things, and it makes changing strings SOOOO much easier! just lock it and it's like changing on a hardtail guitar. release it, fine tune and you're away.

Yeah, stringwinders rule !!!
I always thought if I would get tendon problems it wouldn't be by playing but by restringing :P but now with my cute blue stringwinder my life is intact again ;)
(oh, you wanted us to ignore this post...) 8)

Ohh, the Planet Wave stringwinder/cutter changed my life - Genius!!!!

wow.. this thread is really popular for one i didn't actually intend to make...

I restrung my first floyd today....
I don't see why its so hard, only took me 15 min
Hey are they saddles prearranged? becasue if they are then I messed them up
-
2 Point Fulcrum Trem, LSR Roller Ball Nut, Schaller Locking tuners..
Who needs a floyd??
-
only takes me about 20 minutes to change strings on a floyd. Actually takes me longer to restring my PRS due to those locking PRS tuners.
-

You moved the saddles? That's gonna effects your intonation.
-
If you don't use it why don't you block it? 8)

Basically the whole bridge of my Guitar was coated in dirt and grime. I had to take it apart to get it all clean. I had it in ablut 30 pieces at one point. I "preset" my intonation similar to another of my Guitars, and it was actually almost spot on!
But I do notice some slight height differences in the saddles, that I can feel as well as see. I was just wondering if there was an easier way to tell where they go.
Sorry for the Hijack!
-
Well, height differences won't effect the intonation as much moving the saddles forwards or backwards will.
There are guides to know roughly how high each saddle should be, dependinng on the guitar's neck radius, which you can find online with a search (I don't have the figures in memory). But the way I set them is just by what feels right, according to the action and curvature of the fretboard.
As far as intonaiton goes, get yourself a tuner and do a search on how to set that, too. It's really not difficult. :)
-
As far as I know the Height on floyds is already pre-set to about 14" radius.
So I'm just concerned that there might be a certain way to have the saddles set, Because the base plate else is flat.

Are the saddle blocks different heights? if so you need the tallest to in the middle, the shortest on the outside and the other two in between. I haven't had an OFR but on an Edge the blocks are the same height and the plate is staggered.

They look to be slightly different, and the plate isn't staggered. But I don't think that it is an OFR either. the allen bolts that lock the strings are very short. i.e. you have to adjust them in front of the fine tuners.
I was just wondering if there was any way to tell a difference.

cant be aresed with floyd rose's anymore, I hate them now I've got use to a fixed bridge, I'm a miles better player than I used to be now. It used to take me about 20 minutes to change the strings, I had a squire stagemaster with a floating floyd rose, NEVER EVER take all the strings off! always change them one by one, it's vital ; ) cos when it's a floating trem, the balance needs to be perfect.
