Title: Guitar shops in Edinburgh?
Post by: Twinfan on August 25, 2006, 08:49:08 AM
I'm off to Edinburgh at the weekend and fancy a browse while I'm there.  Are there any decent guitars hops up there?  I've never managed to find any in the past...

There was a post about this ages ago if you search for it there were quite a few replies.

There are a few, depending on where you are situated. If you're gonna be near town centre then I would say the best one is Scayles on South Clerk Street (it's not listed as being on that street, some crescent, but it is there). To get to it, go from the bottom of Princes Street (the main one) and head up North Bridge and keep going and going until you see it. It will be on the right side of the street and about 10 mins from Princes Street (the trainstation end).

There is also a Soundcontrol which is big and has lots of nice stuff, which is in the grassmarket but I can't remember how to get there. Scayles has a more humble feel to it though  :P , more of a local guitar shop.

^ ah, ok, I was just about to say "guitar guitar", lol. i see you already got it. Guitar guitar is about 3 miles out- it's pretty easy to find, it's on the main corstorphine road (towards the zoo) or at least, it morphs into "st john's road" or some such lark.

sound control is def. worth going to- if even for the fact that, since you aren't there often, you can try out stuff that you woldn't normally try in your local shop, since they don't know you. the grassmarket is just down the side of the castle- head up the royal mile from north bridge, then take a left then quick right at another bridge (george IV bridge? maybe), that'll lead you down to the grassmarket- sound control is at the very bottom.

other than that, www.yell.com can be quite handy for finding guitar shops, and it normally has maps too.

:drink:

EDIT: i haven't been to scayles though- it was just across the road from my sister's flat when she was at edinburgh uni last year, but I was always at her flat when scayles was closed... :( i think it's on st. patrick's square or something like that.
