So suddenly I find myself with a few hundred quid in the bank and I figure it's about time to finish up my strat copy. It's essentially a carvin bolt kit, alder body, maple neck and ebony fingerboard, hardtail. It's also finished in fur but with it having nowhere to attach strings yet I can't really tell you how that will affect the sound.
Anyway, pickups. I'm probably going to go for slowhands in the neck and middle because (get this) I like clapton's tone. At the bridge I'd like a 'bucker that when split could do a decent job of matching them, but that's not really a top priority. I'm more interested in getting a NWOBHMy/power metally tone out of it, so my first thought was the painkiller? Seems about perfect, but how long is it going to be before they're available? If it's too long I might just go for something else and swap it later.
If I do go for something else, I'd still like it to be good at NWOBHM type stuff, but versatility would be a concern as well. I do have a warpig loaded ravelle too, so it doesn't need to do much in the way of modern metal or the kind of big and dark cleans. I was thinking maybe a rebel yell. Any suggestions?

In an alder body, I would say the Cold Sweat is a no brainer for NWOBHM tones!
Actually, a Nailbomb will cover that territory really well, too. But I would go with the Cold Sweat & two Slowhands!

Aren't the cold sweat and rebel yell bridges the same? Or am I thinking of the necks? That's a shame, I quite liked the idea of the purple and black zebra.

Well the Painkiller won't be real until it's real, if you follow me.
From the current lineup of pups, I would choose the Cold Sweat, and I am a hardcore NWOBHM style player.

The Cold Sweat is ceramic magnet pickup and the Rebel Yell is Alnico V.

The CS and RY bridges are totally different. The necks share alot in common although they're not 100% identical.Steve Stevens loved both the VHII and Cold Sweat neck so we aimed at a bit of both :D

I love the VHII Neck and CS Neck aswell totally outstanding neck pickups
The mids from the VHII neck sing like nothing else, and the CS has a similar quality but more tubular and seems to just play like liquid..
Both great!
But yea I'd take TO's advise on the Cold Sweat
