What would you recommend to remove minor scratches from my new old Ibanez? I basically want to polish it up to make it look a little newer, I don't expect miracles but I'd like to be left with a shiny finish too.

Depends on how deep the scratches are. Meguiar's makes a Fender Care Kit that has a swirl remover in it that should take out most minor scratches from picks and so forth. Anything more than that and I'd probably buy some wet-and-dry sandpaper from an auto store and wet sand the guitar first, then use a scratch remover polish, a swirl remover, and finally a general car polish. I'd start with a 1000 grit sandpaper and move on to a 2000 grit paper.
I've done this kinda thing before, but I wouldn't consider myself an expert. You might wanna wait to see what the luthiers here have to say. :)

Just give it a quick buff with some t-cut, follow the directions on the bottle.

I've had great results with Pol metal polish. Aply a little and start rubbing with a soft cloth in circular movements.

I would use Mer - a car polish or Auto Glym Super Resin Polish
The Ibanez finish will be Polyester so will take a fair bit of polishing

i recommend Meguiar's polish. I think #7 or #9, not really sure but in that range.
It took scratches out of my SG no problem. use a real soft cloth

My 1970's Strat is a bit worn-has something of a "bloom" on it and after a sweaty gig, this shows as a kind of milky like colour on the rear-is there anything I can do about that? Thanks chaps.
