It wasn't a planned purchase (I actually went to the shop intending to buy a mic) but I saw it on the wall, it ticked all my boxes for spec, I played it for a few minutes & was bowled over by how nice it was. This really is one of the "good" ones you hear about. There was no way I could walk out of the shop without it, so out came the credit card :)
There's only one thing it falls down on (as do nearly all Gibsons) - the pickups. I see a BKP MM/CS set in my near future :)
Oh & I didn't buy the mic

ROFLMAO
Good going (am sure MC or Visa will thank ya too).
Maybe trading my MM Axis for another Les Paul myself (def. a Player, sunburst which is NOT my fave but a DEF. good LP), then more BKP's will be needed again, sheesh, never ending huh.
-
Does your Axis already have BK's? 'cause if it does then take them out first and replace them with the stock pups :drink:

Dude, you gotta post pics if you come up with such a thread ... 8)

Nope, just NOT for me (nut to small, prefer more width). Still has hang tags and original DiMarzio Custom Pups.
And, am NOT a 'sunburst' top lover. BUT, he has had the neck pro. sanded/shaved to sg Angus (i.e. '61) profile. VERY sweet player. Worth the axis and lil bit but will see how he likes my axis and where we go :)

LOL you didn't get the mic!
Sounds like you are enjoying your Les Paul though!

I can agree with that - I hate narrow necks...that's why I love my tele. But metal with a tele doesn't work, so I find myself having to compromise at times...
Currently saving up to get a custom built - BC Rich Eagle, Rebel Yells or Nailbombs (not decided yet) and a tele style neck :drink:

That's weird. Most Teles have narrow necks! That's the reason I like Teles. Me with my little girly hands.
Antag, have fun with your new guitar. :D

on my tele i'm getting a wolfgang asymmetrical neck :D:D
congrats on the LP, picspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspicspics

Hmm, maybe wide is the wrong word then...I like it because the strings seem further apart than on other guitars (my strat for example) :drink:
-
isn't that more to do with the nut width and bridge??
-
Yeah, possibly - but the neck appears to be wider at the nut than my other guitars (admittedly i'm just going by eye), with the exception of my 7 string :P
-
if you say so, i've only really played LP type guitars (with the exception of my musicman) so im used to the same styles
-
And I've never really played LP types - so maybe that's why I think these are fairly wide
-
I played some teles t'other day and one was wider than the other so I guess it depends on the model/neck profile. I preferred the narrower one, I'm used to my Epi LP though which doesnt exactly have a huge neck :)

Here are some pics I took yesterday:

It was a bit cloudy when I took them, but the sun's out today so I just ran out & took a couple more:

Hope these links work, I don't have any webspace of my own so googled a free hosting site... :)

very nice
your bridge saddles look very far apart, either that or mine are very close together...
-
Vintage burst may not be to everyone's taste, but I much prefer the black/brown kind of bursts (like this, or the Desert Burst, Honey Burst etc) over the cherry bursts - plus I've not seen many Les Pauls in this colour.
Anyway, what these pics don't tell you is how nice it is to play & what a beautiful sounding & feeling Les Paul it is :) It has a fantastic lively sound to it & is going to absolutely rock when I install BKPs in it :-)
Also, the fingerboard is immaculate with really good fretwork - something you can't always say even about the most expensive Gibsons. While shopping for Les Pauls over the last few years the thing that's amazed me most has been the highly variable build quality - I think I've been lucky to get one that's not only made of bueatiful wood, but also by someone who knew what he/she was doing :)

That's what I thought when I looked closely, but it seems to intonate OK. I'm going to give it the full setup when I get the BKPs - after I wire them up I'll put on new strings, clean/polish it & check the intonation with a tuner...
-
hmmm... may just be the position of the bridge, what guage strings you got on there?? 10s?
-
They feel like 10-46s. Like I said, I'm going to hold the string change until I get some BKPs for it, then I'll put on 10-52s
-
yeah, i got 9-46 on my LP, and i'm gettin some 10-52s for my axis when i get my BKs for it, all i gotta do is decide which ones, then get a job, then not spend any money for a couple weeks, then decide which finish to get....BKPs are almost too much effort
-
i like 9.5" radius strat necks, 22 frets... Yum! Congrats on the les paul... Never been a paul fan but if it makes you happy then thats good. Hope you credit card is low interest
-
That looks awesome!
IMO it would look even better if it was a deep blue burst kind of colour!
But congrats on your purchase, now go and get that mic!

Ha! I noticed that too - I think it depends who has done the setup at the Gibson factory (or maybe it's at Rosetti in the UK). There must be only a few people who do them.
My Firebird and one of my SGs were set up exactly like that, my other Gibsons all had the saddles much closer together.
-
i think two of mine are actually the same position
