Title: Mule NECK vs. Miracle Man NECK
Post by: TonyGibson on September 05, 2006, 02:50:17 PM
Hello, I currently own two sets of BKP...one is the MM calibrated set.

After reading lots of reviews, I am interested in the Mule as a neck pickup. Two quick questions:

1) Is there a substantial sound difference between the Miracle Man NECK pickup (which I currently own) and the Mule neck pickup? They're both Alnico V (I think).

2) Is the Mule neck pickup a good match for the Miracle Man in the bridge?

Thanks!

- Tony

Hi, the mule will hold its own against the MM neck and will balance well with the MM bridge. Tonally to these ears the Mule has a vintage voice, a warm round tone and loads of sustain. Whereas the MM neck is full sounding but alot brighter and more gain, the mule can handle as much gain as you want to throw at it but is more of an all rounder. I have had the MM set and currently the Mule set in a les paul, i went with the Mules because they fitted my blues/rock/metal/clean needs and the MM where more focused on the metal tones. My opinion.

Thanks for the reply.

Based on that, I'm looking for vintage in the neck, but I need bright...this is a Les Paul that I'm playing through a Mesa/Boogie amp so I need all the bright I can get. I'm wondering if the Black Dog or another pickup will be a better choice?

A better bet is the Cold Sweat neck-it's brighter but still balances well to the MM bridge.

Thanks for the reply Tim.

Is it safe to say that the Cold Sweat neck would sound like more of a vintage pickup then the MM neck?

Also, what kind of magnet is the Cold Sweat neck pickup? Thanks again...

the CS neck has a vintage vibe clean, and much more vintage sounding than the MM neck.. it's a Alnico V magnet.

and trust me the MM Bridge, CS Neck is a killer combination.

If that's the case I'm an inch away from ordering a chrome covered Cold Sweat neck today.

What guitar do you have the MM/CS combo in?
