:? Youv'e guessed it, im looking for advice at the font of all knowledge regarding Bareknuckle pickups!
Heres the scenario.
:guitar4:
Mid life crisis goes out and buys the guitar i had, and stupidly sold, in my late teens, early twenties a 1979!! Washburn Falcon made by Matsumoku in Japan.
A wonderfully constructed through neck maple and rosewood laminated piece of luthierwork
Problem is...........it sounds terrible! All mushy and swampy with no string definition :x
Thats probably why its in mint condition!!
My musical preferences playing wise are early Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green era), Thin Lizzy, Gary Moore, Van Halen and general '80s rock and believe it or not Muse?! (but you do need a floyd rose and a fuzzbox for Matt Bellamy stuff.)
I don't need convincing of the quality of BK products judging by the rave magazine reviews, the seemingly endless awards and the undoubted quality of the products.
Im just a bit staggered by the choices available :?
(Bear in mind Dimarzio super distortions were cutting edge at the time) :?:
There you have it, boys and girls!
A golden opportunity to breath new life into an underused vintage guitar and an old bloke from Glasgow.
Thanks in advance of your replies!

I haven't tried them myself but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say a set of Emerald humbuckers 8)

Welcome to the forum Greenyblues :) Glad you've been able to find the guitar you once had. I'd give anything to be able to find a Fernandes FR120 like the one I stupidly offloaded in 1990 :(
From the styles you've listed I'd agree with Bird that Emerald would cover it best. Something with not too much output - could also consider VHII perhaps?
I think Matt Bellamy uses Nailbombs...

Welcome to the forum Greenyblues.
With your username I've got to suggest the new set which Tim made for Gary Moore based on the original PAFs (with back to front neck pup) that Peter Green had in his Les Paul.
See this thread:

As they are prototypes I expect they're not readily available yet.

But if you said "Tiiiiiiiim, I'll be your best friend if you make me some of those Gary Moore pups that I heard were so amazing when I spoke to him last week..." he might make them for you...
Or maybe if you just offered more money :P

Hmm - some of what will make this choice difficult is the guitar
You basically have a maple through neck, short scale guitar where the bridhge pickup is VERY close to the bridge itself
The Washburn Falcon and Eagle guitars were nice and the Super Distortions probably covered up a lot of the underlying tonal identity
Care will have to be taken to avoid whatever goes in the bridge just sounding too thin and trebly- so a certain amount of midrange and beefiness will help here.
Maybe a Crawler or a Nailbomb set would be the answer.
Many of your tone heros have either bolt on neck guitars or glued in mahogany necked axes so they start off in a different place tonally

I was actually going to suggest a set of Abraxas, as there was a neck through guitar at LGS with them in and it sounded great.

I was going to suggest a VHII, but that's just my opinion.

Abraxas may indeed be good as A rebel Yell for similar reasons - big on midrange!!
