Title: Suger SOAD Cold Sweat Bridge With Backing Track
Post by: Johnny Mac on September 10, 2006, 06:48:56 PM
Just recorded this one from a TG backing track.

Guitar, my Feline 'pimped' Richwood Les Paul using a cold Sweat bridge.

Amp. The Koch Powertone II using the gain channel on 7, Bass 9, Mid 9, Treble 8, Presance 9.

No EQ added at recording stage.

I compressed the backing track a touch to control it.

I didn't compress the guitars. (yet)

3 tracks of guitar panned 40% Left, 40% Right and a track in the middle lower than the other two.

Cubase. I love it now!

I made a slight mistake on the stacato/gliss part but bollocks to take 11!

^ Aww thanks for the nice comments lads!  :)

WFD and anyone else, cast your critique on this for me as I'm not too sure on the EQ settings on the amp. I have knocked off that mid boost thanks to you and Jt!

This makes you feel

I was actually thinking about recording this song the other day whilst mowing the lawn, then got your PM today and thought "bugger I've been beaten to it" Sounds good to me though the chords sound a bit fizzy or something I cant quite explain.. Maybe its you taking off the mids as you say..

Don't let me stop you Tom! Mowing the lawn eh! Was that under duress? Only joking!

Fizzy, Hmmm not sure, may be too much gain or the EQ. The mids should be there-ish, as before they had a mini toggle switch boosting the upper mids and that is flat for this clip.

JP, why is it fizzy?

Man you have toothache fever! I dunno if there is a problem really, I just thought you might be able to give some EQ tips! Loud recording i suppose. Loud man loud!

Shall i compress it to see what happens?

Oil of cloves on the offending tooth can help. If your not too fussed about getting the tooth fixed then tie some string around it and the other end to a door, drink some JD and get your mate to slam the door when your out of it! I would get it looked at, as you need your teeth to bite bats heads off with!!

One of the reasons why I decided to order a bridge Cold Sweat for an LP copy was your other clip. And this one seems to confirm it.
Fat, crushing tone. It sounds like it fills up a lot of room.

Can't wait for mine to arrive.  :)

Now.. Back, still hruting , but i´m able to collect and write some info
lets go.
send me a full size, quality , and big pic of the entire amp. with focus n the control panel with all the knbs.
Q:)
Based on the results i´ll give you, we will do the following :
1 - make a soft distorted recording.
2 - make a medium distorted recording
3 - make a real distorted recording(for males only, ahahahaha)
i´ll diagnose it in between the first and the last clips. so, we will figure out what to increase, decrease etc.

Yes good point about the bandwidth! I'll try and get on to this Wedenesday. I'm up to my eyeballs in photo orders from that trip around Europe at the moment.

I had a root canal done about 13 years ago and had injections in an infected gum. I tell you the pain was worse than a well placed kick in the bollocks! It took this poor dentist 7 appointments to get it all done but it is fantastic now and would recommend it over pulling them out and looking like a gummy gap toothed pirate any day! Women claim to block out pain better than men because of childbirth. Not in my experience of ex-girlfriends! The current one does though!  8)

Edit that doesn't quite sound right about the girlfriend! A canal boat mishap and massive brusing to leg but just brushed it off and got on with it!

Guess how I got that bad tooth in the 1st place. I should have said in the first place but forgot because of an alcohol knocked out lapse of memory!!

I got a left hook sucker punch (Bare knuckle one no less!) from a giant Greek Cypriot body building bouncer in a shite Tottenham (North London area) Nightclub that my mates insisted on going to each bleeding weekend. I got too drunk in a pub before hand with my mate 'Mad Marky'. We got chucked out for throwing beer over each other as we were bored. This was 1986 and the dance music in those days was so lame as it used to frustrate me cos I loved the Sex Pistols as a 11 year old and liked Iron Maiden, AC/DC ect ect but my mates were pussy hounds. So I tried but it just didn't happen that much then cos these girls just wanted to have a kid and that was that. Boring man! So all i did was $%&#ed about and took the piss out of them without them realising (that much!!) So this bouncer told us to leave. We did, but we sneaked back  through a fire exit door  using the 'You pull the door open and I'll slip my hand inside and push the bar method'. Bingo! We were back in, along with all the poor sods the bouncers wouldn't let it in. We stayed in a 180 degree rotation of the the bouncer as he circled the dance floor area so he didn't suss that we had got back in. All the time drinking more beer and getting more drunk!!   Then we forgot about the bouncer and was being stoopid 21 year olds with our friends and the beer throwing started up again. Of course this time it got too out of hand and someone quite rightly complained. My mate who is built like a brick shite house was asked to leave. Whilst I who hadn't quite filled out yet and was a skinny 11 stone streak of piss was picked up by my shirt collar (you need one to get in you see!) and walked out with my feet walking in mid air. Then I woke up outside with a very sore head and a huge fat lip and cheek. I still didn't know what had happened cos' i was too drunk!! It was in a taxi home when i realised something wasn't right cos my mate Mad Marky can't stop laughing. I said my face hurts and he said I'm not supprised, that huge bouncer just dropped you like a stone with one punch and you was so pissed you never even saw it coming!  Anyway the tooth just fell apart over the years, I was too scared to see a dentist cos of the experiences i had with no anaesthetic as a kid cos the man said to my mother i was too young to have one (too much Coca Cola) and then it got infected and just felt like the worst thing in the world. The dentist put me on penicillin which didn't even touch the sides! Then antibiotics and it was Christmas so i couldn't drink. Then with an infected gum he stuck an arced needle up and under style right into my root. JP i tell you man this poor dentist was as nervous as hell cos he was only a little bloke and he made me swear that when the pain kicked in i would just listen to the nurse and soldier through it with out lashing out at him (it's the area you see!)
Anyway he did a superb job and I wrote to him to thank him as I was pain free and could eat a granary bread sandwich with out having electric shocks each time i forgot about the bad tooth!

Lesson don't take the piss out of Bouncers when drunk and go to the dentist early!!

HAILS!!!

Thanks Deadstar! The drums and bass are from a Total Guitar backing track.

I think the tone is a bit fizzy now I'm listening to it a bit more. I've got to try and work on my EQ a bit. But WFD is on hand!
