Title: Bass Pickups?
Post by: Fin on September 11, 2006, 04:30:43 AM
Hello from across the pond!

I'm looking at completely revitalizing my old Squire PBass, inherited many moons ago from my brother, with new neck, better hardware, and new pickups. I'm not won-over by the SDuncan, Dimarzio, or other modern pickups, and basses are sorely overlooked by many other makers.

So my question for Tim is this. Can you make P and J style replacement pickups? how about the old Gibson EB0 Sidewinders? I emailed you about this a year ago, and you said to check back later. The reason I'm posting is to see what kind of support these might garner among the fans as well to solicit any bass players thoughts on various upgrades they've done or always wanted to do.

Peace and God bless

BK already make P & J bass pickups.  I have a 66 Precision with a BK and it sounds just like my old 62 did (I sold the 62 years ago when I was broke and struggling!).  Steve has J-bass in his bass.

8) I've just had a JAZZ pick-up installed in my Squier PB by Feline Guitars in Croydon and what a difference.... a word of advice, scr@p the Squier pick-ups and get yourself a dose of BKP!!!

Love em so much that I'm going to upgrade my Explorer bass PU as well....

Thanks for the link. My bass pursuits are part-time but as time and money allow, I definitely want to get a set. I actually want to run a three pickup set inspired by the Billy Cox signature Cort basses, but with a Jazz in the bridge and a second Pbass in the neck position. Maybe a Jazz to keep the neck position clear sounding. Also, put a master volume and tone in and wire a five-way, for Strat like sounds. Trying to develop some Cello-like passages using some volume swelling and other techniques. Better pups and pots would certainly help!!

THanks for the help!
