hmmm ok... so ive got my LP as my kinda workhorse axe... covers most stuff with the BK... but im after something a bit more into shred territory... some of you may remember i went on a craze for a super-strat a while ago... and thats the same kinda thing coming back.. BUT... i no longer want a trem... so now... instead of wanting a metal axe on which a trem is a necessity... its the opposite... i want a metal axe WITHOUT a trem...
any recommendations?

Carvin
Fender
Washburn
SG

cheers,
but when you say SG... what do you mean?
gibson sg, esp Viper type sg... or your custom sg
-
there are lots of ibanez, LTD and maverick superstrat type guitars with hardtail bridges. best thing would, of course, be to go try a few. did you ever try your pod through that amp?
-
cr@p! no i didnt... but i have the best excuse ever right... are you ready...
i have no leads...
but yer anyway- maverick aha! forget them... i do love the look of them... any particular models? or a series or whetever... places to find them? any info much appreicated.
-
Look into the Ibanez SZ320 sam. I used one for a while untill i bought my 7 string. Very nice guitars and dirt cheap.
-
Sam
played one of these quite abit (whilst in states). Japan ver. of USA guitar.
Thought it had wonderful neck and played v.well;

cheers steve! looked into them and look excellent... SERIOUSLY considering getting one of them... you liked yours then?
and nick... that looks awesome... right up my street... but bloody expensive...
-
well, new price and NOT searched. Just remembered playing it and being very impressed (is neck-thru too).
Neck is wonderful (well for me anyway) and string-thru-body sustained well and sooooooooo easy to re-string :)
-
yeh neck-thrus make me want to cry... i want one so bad...
and its satin... and like you said... string-thru... hard-tail.... two h/b's no single coils... definately my kinda guitar...
just costly... found only one on ebay.. in america...

Schecters are reasonably priced and are always a joy to play, you could do far worse than checkout a C1.
-
I thought you had that ESP in the strange bluey green colour :? Surely you can just block off the trem, get a tremel-no or something?
-

Certainly did mate. It was an incredibly comfortable guitar. I used it in my band for a couple of months till i switched back to 7 strings and it held up well. It really took a beating. I got mine for just under £200 you might be able to find one cheaper.
-
I still badly want one of these 7-string Schecters. They're pretty metal and have no trem. ;)

what is the budget, sambo?

Dean Vendetta 4.0 has a super fast thru neck with a string through body bridge and an ebony board. Best of all you can get them for £310! :o A set of locking tuners and some BKs and you're sorted.
-
^ dude they look gorgeous!
the ONLY possible (tiny) complaint i could make is that i would prefer a satin finish... but im not that fussy about that...
couple of things though... the ones ive seen- the boards were rosewood... ?
and where can you get em for £310!!?!?!?
dave and hunter:
im planning to raise about £450-500 from selling gear... so that will be my approximate budget... but i definately dont mind going second hand.. (in fact probably prefer it in some ways)... and it would be nice to have cash left over for tuners for the Gibson/the new axe... or maybe just some money left over to start the save for BKPs...
steve: £200! they just look better and better the more i hear about them... jesus..
and HTH- thanks for the schecter reminder... i cant believe i forgot them... someone else mentioned them to me as well... i keep forgetting to look in more detail at em...
and Tom... yer the ESP is alright... but not what im after... not just trem-wise...

My bad, it is a rosewood board. They DO look killer though. I played an EVO special in trans black the other day, and that had an unbelievably fast neck (to the point that I'm torn between that and the Vendetta- ultimately I'm sure I'll get both, but which first?) for a singlecut (or even a doublecut). The idea of burning it up on a singlecut always appeals to me
-
mwahahahaha.... trans black you say? ooo lord... anything trans black weakens my knees...
i say get the vendetta first then you can tell me whether i really should get one  lol joking...
and yup they do look killer... and your little equation makes it seem so perfect... lol

Hi Sambo, not sure if you looked at these, but BC Rich are making a reissue of the Mockingbird neck through which sells for about $700 over here.
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/B.C.-Rich-NJC-Mockingbird-Electric-Guitar?sku=512286
-
id seen similar ones... with trems.... but not them... they do look lovely... and Mockingbirds are another favourite shape of mine...
right in my price range too, thanks phil.
EDIT: oh and have you had any personal experience with them? if so what do you make of them?
-
Not that I knew so much about metal, but this looks quite good to me
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320027779296
-
thats GORGEOUS... but bit too expensive... let alone shipping :(
-
not trying to be a snob, but, I do not like BC Rich's ever since Bernie Snr. left/died. Not a PATCH on a 'true' BC.
-
ive heard similar opinions before... i cant comment cause i havent played any... not a fan of all these wacky shapes though...
-
Washburn X50-Pro?

Carvin
Fender
Washburn
SG
Dean
Don't forget Ibanez either... older RG 3 digit (550, 570, 770, etc.) can often be bought for cheap on ebay... can't go wrong there ;)

They look cool, but they're so uncomfortable to play that if I was given a really nice V I sell it because it's too uncomfortable to play.

They are good looking hard rocking guitars, but not exactlythe shredworthy doublecut that Sambo asked about initially
-

Sam
was NOT going to shame ya but u statred it so here ya go boys and girls.
Sam needs to study Rock History as he, did'nt know Lemmy's first band, did'nt know link tween Lizzy,Whitesnake,Blue Murder (aka did'nt know J.Sykes), did'nt know link with Motorhead to Lizzy (i.e. never heard of Robbo) and WORST of all, did'nt know what NWOBHM stood for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now, some of this is important stuff to know in rock history, or one day you may well look like a complete BERK to friends or worse another band you are posing to
-
:o ... oh the shame

All rock/metal guitarists should watch Spinal Tap.
However, my comments would make more sense if you've seen it.

-
haha! that's nothing. Me and a mate of mine hit each other in the balls when either of us aren't expecting it. You feel a sense of victory when you do it  plus it's bloody funny
-
Is it too late in the Thread for some smartarse to suggest that, as you want a metal guitar, maybe the Tokai Talbo is your best bet?
I hope so. If someone did, it'd be terrible.
-
youve had personal experience with one of them thingies then mate?
never heard of em... do tell...
