On Tim's recommendation I've gone for a set of Alnico V Mothers Milks, but have also asked for aged covers so that they suit the 'old, knackered' look of the guitar
Tim mentioned that he'd also age the magnets aswell as the covers. How this affects the tone I dunno, but I trust him to not do anything that'd change the pickups tone for the worse! :D

Grats, enjoy

Congrats!!! Cool looking guitar, did you build it?

That'll be great-I am looking forward to seeing your thoughts when BKP'd.

Hi Craig, should sound great. I'll be interested to see how you like the Mothers, I haven't got mine yet, and even when I do pick them up, I think it will be a while before I have them in a guitar as I don't know which to put them in. Interesting that Tim suggested MM's not Apaches with a maple neck. I guess the laminated body makes it a darker sound?

Good choice, I have a set in a Strat Plus deluxe and Im sure ypu'll not be dissapointed. Superb cleans, dynamic break up tones and they really scream when you turn the wick up. They're sort of organic and woody, if yu know what I mean?

I think I speak for everyone when I say get us some clips of those beasts when they arrive :D

I don't know which to put them in.
Oh dear, what a shame :P  :drink:

Hey guys, thanks for the posts :)
I know it's a little early to be posting about them, having only ordered them today, but thought I'd make a post anyway

I found this guitar in a carrier bag while I was still at college. 1 of the former music tutors bought it in as a 'prop' guitar for the drama department to use for a play, and he never took it back home. The guys at the college were going to throw it away and I saved it :D
It was originally black, but when I stripped it all down and found this finish underneath, I thought it was too cool to cover back up with paint. So myself and a mate oiled it and then sealed it with a layer of wax.

I was quite surprised myself to be honest! I was pretty much decided on Apaches myself (thought MM's might be too bright with a Maple neck/board?) Tim said that the (mainly) Mahogany body may make the Apaches too 'round' sounding and not the traditional Strat tone that I'm looking for.
I'll give them a go and see how I like them. Obviously I'll be posting back here asap, whatever my thoughts on them :)
