Righty ho,
before I start. I am deaf in one ear (hopefully sorted next week) and my mate was ill :(. So, not being used to recording gear yadda yadda. Anyway, hopefully will get my laptop etc. (with missus) from Texas soon and then can mic my amps for what I would 'really' like to record.
Anyway, both clips recorded with exactly same settings, drum track and bass guitar added.
Recorded with Marshall preset on Line 6 Toneport and in garageband.
Not 100% happy with Custom 'Pig mix (lead/riff too dominant) but am tired and in pain from ear so have to do for now :P
For those interested. Painkiller's in EBMM Petrucci, bridge for backing rythm, neck/bridge for lead/riff.
Custom Warpig's in Gibson Explorer. Same deal with recording pups.
First audio posting so hope y'all like.

Those both ruled, great tones!!
Though i was hoping for some thrash riffage, but that will have to wait for another day.
Cheers for the clips!
-
Thanks Joe,
blame the drugs (legal for ear lol) and lack of exp./time with recording gear.
I am normally more into 'chug' lol, but thought they needed a good tonal outing rather than just more bland.
Rest assured more clips will appear (hopefully direct mic'd to ENGL and Mesa).
Nick
p.s. I don't really do 'thrash', don't count 'tallica as thrash though so depends on your def. :)
-
damn...
awesome...
both of them...
however, i doubt they're good enough to warrant a visit from our 'friend'...
-
cheers Sammy boy :)

I never knew the Painkiller was available yet - hmm, I'll have to get onto Tim about that

pre-production set

I count Metallica's first album as thrash, then RTL, MOP & AJFA as speed metal.
But 80's heavy metal is good too, so anything 80's whether it's thrash or heavy would be cool :D
-
Sounds good but I was hoping to hear clips thru your Mesa or Engl :(
Cant really tell much difference from those clips to be honest but I think I prefer the Painkiller..
Good playing aswell :D
-
Me too.
My gear (for mic'ing) is still over the pond :(
Soon as can, cos hate using 'digital' devices when have such amps.
Thanks though _Tom_
-
Yeah I know what you mean, I dont like using my V-Amp to record when I have a nice real amp sitting next to me, just dont have the gear to record at the minute!
-
Nice! The Painkiller sounds exactly like I expected it to ;)
-
DK! Impressive stuff considering what your up against and recent times. Well done man! :D
I liked the Painkiller track best. Very EVH in your playing too. (I need to learn some of his intervals i think!)
You can certainly rip it up!
Looking forward to more :!:   Hint hint KFK, Mesa/Engl Piggy pig pig, chugga chug chug!!
-
Great stuff Nick- really enjoyed it.My PC speakers don't do it justice however and as it is early morning as I listened, even the ever patient Mrs 38th would not have been too happy if I cranked it up-but when I get home tonight, things will be different.

$%ing Hails Dakine!!!
ThankŽs For the clips Man!
i like the Painkiller Riffage! Completely similar to the Judas priest Cd wit hthe same Title.
Are Both guitar in the same Tunings?
it looks like the Painkiller is tighter than the custom Warpig in the Rythm riffage, but the Warpig Wons on the Leads territory to me.
ahahahahahahaha
iŽll wait for the next clips with Heavier Settings.
ThanŽk you very much for the clips man.
iŽm $%ing $%ed up with a toothache that doesn[t let me sleep till Last friday.
iŽll see the dentist tomorrow(monday)
iŽll surely have to do a rot chanel.
Hails.

ALSO, i have a drum backing track for the MOUTH FOR WAR , PanteraŽs Song.
iŽll do my version of it(read MY VERSION=My lead version. iŽll play the riff exactly the same, but in another tuning. ) and i can send it to any of you, if wanted.
Hails.
JP
ps - with bare knuckles.

listened to the custom warpig clip and thought it was pretty bad ass although not really the sort of thing that would attract me to buy myself (kind of prefer the sound of the non-custom one), and then i listened to the painkiller one... OMG, thats just my cup of tea!!!
playing-wise you have a cool style i think :)
you have several 1000 posts dakine, i wonder if someone like myself could order a painkiller set... only one way to try it i suppose.
-
To be honest, i was expecting some heavy chugging with the ceramic Pigs but it was a good clip none the less.
The Painkiller sounds very energetic, I'd love to hear it do some Motorhead.
-
Thanks guys.
As said, not exactly happy with clips myself.
With the ear (mono-painfull hearing) It was kinda 'overkill'. Overdid it I think as was not in best state either health wise or with familiar eqpt.
The Painkiller shines through best, IMO.
The Custom 'Pig indeed needs a more 'chug' rythm and maybe leave it at that, just simple.
I was up LATE last night and 'think' I have sorted my 'M-Audio Black Box' with my mum's 'steam driven' PC so will endeavor to do some Custom 'Pig chug.
Think got abit 'busy' for what is essentially 'new pup' clips, but ya live and learn.
Thanks for all the kind comments.
Funny thing is, with the Custom 'Pig through a 'real' valve amp it is very much more 'bassy' and takes more taming (have found the vol. on amp needs to be wound up to clear this more) but when using a 'digital interface' the same pups sound alot less 'bassy'.
Tired and hurting still so not thinking straight why this is, but must be a reason. Alot to do with the 'organics' of valves and power am sure.
Anyway, will try soon to post some much more 'simple' riff/chug for the Custom Warpig in a 'heavier' style to show what IMO it really is and is thought to be.
Thanks again,
Nick
and JP, a Rot Chanel makes me SCARED!!!!!!!!!! good luck bud :)
and yeah JP both same std. tunings bud.
-
Oh my god, that was awesome. Finally a clip with a warpig in standard tuning. Needless to say where my next 100Ł are going to be spent on 8). That's the sound I've been looking for.
-
hey really awesome painkiller clip. the warpig thing isn't my cup of tea but the painkiller one was amazing. really great tone. I think (based on that one clip at least) that the painkiller will be one of my favourite higher gain pickups..along with the rebel yell
keep up the good work. a clean clip would be nice too when you have some time :)
-
Kinda funny ALL the Painkiller interest on here over past 6months to first mention and yet not too much interest now, lol.
-
Good stuff Dakine matey...
Great playing and sound, liked the Warpig leads... Painkiller not too shabby either
Nice.
-
TY Chris!
-
some good shite!

wouldn't say that at all mate :) its just what i'm after!
but maybe there hasn't been too much comments because after all the clip sounds just like a BKP called "Painkiller" should ;)
-
nice clips dakine. I leked the 'pig better overall, still not sure If I want a ceramic or reg. bridge pig in my set though.

kinda funny, with me it was the opposite. from the original description I didn't think I was gonna like it much but after that clip. definitely my favourite high gain bucker. Who knows though...maybe it was just a fluke. I guess I'll need to hear more clips 8)
got any specs one it? what magnet and DC?
-
btw dakine, how would describe the painkiller neck? i seem to remember some posts say that its the first BKP ceramic neck pickup, so i wonder about its qualities.
cheers :)
