Title: Anyone using BK rewinds?
Post by: gingataff on September 25, 2006, 04:51:18 AM
Does anyone use BK rewinds of other pups? How different are they to the originals? I'm also interested to hear any clips anyone might have, especially before and after the rewind:)

I have several BK rewinds

Original 60's Strat - the coil was fraying and the pickup had shorted, so Tim rewound it and I can't tell it from the originals (really - i can't remember which position I put it in and when you play it is impossible to tell).

1960 P-90 - this had a broken bobbin (a common P-90 problem), so BK fixed it with a new one, but I had an AIV magnets rather than the A5.  The magnet change wasn't quite as successful as I would have liked as the output dropped quite a bit.  The pickup sounds great but I will probably go back to the original magnets.

Original Gibson PAF. This had been overwound on one coil with a different type of wire.  Tim rewound it back to stock with the correct wire.  It is like a Stormy Monday and has a great old Gibson tone.

I would reccomend the rewind if you have a pickup that is broken. If you want to change the tone of the pickup I guess it could be done within reason.

I'm having an old A8 Super 70 rewound by him now and I am stoked!

Have had one coil of the neck pickup of my 63 SG Standard rewired (Patent Number). Haven't been able to try it as the guitar is being restored but I'm banking on it sounding exactly as original.
