Ok guys I have looked around the forums for sound samples of Black Dogs and Mules regarding Led Zep and Slash stuff and I have found stuff but crave a bit more :)
So I was wondering if one, or two guys could maybe post 1 or 2 samples of themselves playing Zeppelin and Slash stuff on a Mule and Blackdog
Say maybe The Black Dog Intro or Moby Dick Intro or Rock and Roll Intro or The Custard Pie Intro, or the Rover Intro or something that shows Pages Signature sound
and maybe The Knockin on Heavens Door Solo or the Sweet Child of Mine intro. Something to show Slashs signature Sound
This would be doing me a HUGE favour if a fellow Led Zep and Slash fan could do this for me,
It would be very much appreciated,
Thanks in advance  ,

I 2nd that just because I wanna hear some new Led Zep sounds. :)
-
I could do it on a Rebel Yell, but anything Page is going to sound suprisingly like him because of my amps... a Vox AC30 and a Marshall Major gives me a choice in which Led Zeppelin tone do I want to capture.... and a modded SL-X that with the mod I can back off the gain and come quite close to a Plexi. ;)
If I had a Black Dog I would make you some clips though... from what I've heard really does capture that Jimmy Page like sound in a Les Paul. What I think you want to hear is Mules getting Zeppelin and Black Dogs playing Guns 'N' Roses.

Not being rude or anything
Why do you think this :? :)

Thanks alot Hunter.
Very nice clips.
BTW Just wondering, which Black Dog do you prefer for getting Jimmys Sound, (Bridge or Neck)
Or would you just recommend I get both :P
Because as you know I was thinking of getting a Black Dog in the bridge and Mule in the neck

RorySRV,
I think both would be fine. Some prefer a weaker neck pickup in order to have more gain on the bridge and avoid muddyness on the neck.
I have no mules, so I can't tell, but think the combination would work fine.
I am very happy with my 2xBlackDogs and I love them both, JP definitely used both PUps plus his complicated wiring/switching for more versatility.
Whatever you chose, go for BKPs and it will be fine :D
-
That sounds good.
I think I will choose the Black Dog (bridge) - Mule (neck) because then I can use the black dog for the distortion side of pages sound and the mule for the low gain stuff and clean stuff that he does when he uses his coil split, instead of getting 2 black dogs and getting a coil split as well
Thanks for all your help,
And I have to say again that all your clips sounded fantastic. Those black dogs really sing
And its good to have a fellow hardcore Led Zep fan on the forum although I can see there are a few 'normal' Zeppelin fans as well :D
Thanks again,
RorySRV,

I know its ages away, but hopefully at the start of December I'll have my new amp, and may be able to get a decent mic to do some recordings of my Mule'd LP.. you'll probably allready have your pickups by then though
-
I dont know about that :)
I have to first save up enough money to get that Vintage V100 Icon Series Reliced Les Paul in Distressed Honeyburst first that I was referring to in the Pickups section.
Its the one on the right in the 3rd section down btw: http://www.jhs.co.uk/vintageelectric.html
Very Led Zeppelin-Ish
Anyway so after I have bought that I have to save enough for the BKPs
So I might end up hearing those pickup sound samples before I get them :)
I look forward to them :D
And I would love to hear any contributions anyone else has got to offer as well

That's basically the famous Jimmy Page pup combo right there anyway. In either his '58 or '59, he had an overwound bridge pickup and an original neck pickup.
Plus the neck Mule is the most important of the two for Gary Moore tones as well ;)
-
Yep thats why I chose them :P

anything in particular?? (although i don't have the best setup in the world)
-
Umm Black Dog or Heartbreaker Intro or Rock and Roll intro or the Rover intro....
And For Slash
Sweet Child of mine intro or The Knocking on Heavens Door Solo Maybe?
Any of these would really be a big help,
Thanks alot  ,

Nice samples Tom.
I look forward to more when you get your amp

OK, this isn't amazing, partly because i recorded it in the middle of the night, without waking up the cat, partly because i have a rubbash amp, but primarily because i'm useless at playing, but don't hold that against the pickups.....(apologies for the mistakes)
Heartbreaker Intro
Black Dog Intro
The Girl I Love She Got Long Black Wavy Hair Intro (with coil-split active)
Pick a Part That's New Intro (i know, it's not Led Zep, but i love the intro to it, so i started playing it anyway)
Moby Dick Intro
all on bridge Black Dog, in Epi LP Standard (with transparent Blue finish) through cr@ppy Marshall AVT150X amp (with Master Volume set to 0)
:D
James
EDIT: sorry if it's slightly out of tune, i kinda broke my bridge the other day, so it doesn't like being in tune much
-
Dont worry Caffine your playing wasnt too bad
The tone was bang on.
I have to say they do nail it completely
Thanks alot Caffine,
I really appreciate it,
I think this has nailed it for me,

kool, glad to have been of help :)
-
hey, a quesion for caffine:
why do u say the AVT150 is a cr@ppy amp? Is it the valvestate2000 AVT150?
I have the AVT150 valvestate 2000 amp, and in my opinion its a great amp, However i only use it at home.
anyway, just wondering why u thought it was cr@ppy??
oh yeah, u inspired me to play the intro to pick a part thats new! good to hear some led zep stuff too!
-
The character of the Black Dogs shine though even through your solod state Marshall.
I really NEED a set of Black Dogs for my Les Paul Standard now...

it's not the 2000, it's the newer version, with the X on the end, which i thought sounded better than the 2000, but it's only good at very low volumes imo, which is what bugs me, and it's got too much between the input and the speaker, so i find it's a fairly noisy amp... million times better than my mate's MG tho, so in some respects it's a good practise amp.

always good to know i'm inspiring people, i think you're the first person i've ever inspired
one thing with that intro, which i still haven't got right, is getting the start of it quieter than the rest without a lot of fiddling, atm i'm playing the first 2 repeats of the riff with my pick between the bridge and bridge pickup, and the rest with strong downwards strokes in the 'normal' place
:D
have fun mate

This is the kind of thing that is much easier with a Plexi on 10 :)
