I had Planet Rock on Digital Radio earlier and they played a track of Gary Moore and Roger Waters when they were rehearsing(?) earlier this week. Some old bluesy style number, Gary clearly playing a Les Paul and it sounded a bit Mule-like. I wonder if he was using the Greeny pickups Tim made for him????

Kind of hard to tell
Gary apparently has the BKPs in a LP custom
I saw him at the Albert Hall with Paul Rodgers on Tuesday and he had a faded sunburst LP type.
Sounded good as well - he was using a Marshall JCM2000 DSL and a coupl of pedals (looked like a Guvnor, A tubescreamer and a Boss one too)
I asked Tim if he could have been using the BKPs and Tim didnt think he was
Said the reason he sounded good was because he is Gary Moore and , just like with Jeff Beck and so many other great players- it's all in the hands.
Great gear certainly helps - but practising and working on technique as well as phrasing shouldn't be overlooked it seems.
Damn - I'll have to go and practise now!

In my case give up is probably the best option

Cheers Feline - the recording I heard was from a soundcheck on the Tuesday. You're right though - he did sound good. Great old school Les Paul tone :D

Was it Roger Waters or Paul Rodgers that Gary was on the radio with ??
-
Sorry - Paul Rogers, the guy from Free? I'm useless with names! Roger Waters is Pink Floyd I think?
-
Ah - that makes more sense - unless Gary is ultra busy at the moment

He can't be in need of cash if he got the asking price for the Peter Green Les Paul!

Petrucci, Gilbert, Vai, Satriani, Gilmore, Lynch, Timmons.. the list igoes on forever, yes they have nice tone.. but none of them use imparticularly good pickups by my standards ;)
does it take anything away from them? hell no man they sound fantastic! gear isnt everything, im just a gear head though and can't help it lol..
although im deffinatly after a new strat in the early of next year and im afraid to say it's going to have a DiMarzio Paf Pro in the bridge and stock fender pickups.. (coz im cheap) haha! evil!.

Don't worry, these guys don't play stock. The DiMarzios etc of this world will always custom wind sth nice for the big names, believe me.
Anyway, it's true - most is in the fingers. These guys would still rock with a stock Yamaha RG and a stupid POD for a total of a pair of BKPs.
But hey, they are just poor celebrities, not blesses with our secret knowledge about what really matters in life - proper pickups, guitars, cables and amps ...

And "COOL" 8)

No offense, but that's a load of it right there...
The reason you don't get the same tone playing the same gear is because it's in the hands.... end of story.

I remember a stunning experience : I was in a guitar shop and one of the shop guys was playing on a cr@pola Squier (you know, plywood, chinese pickups) on a Vox Pathfinder and his tone just blew me away... all in the hand
