Does anyone know a release date for the Painkillers?
I heard a clip of them and feel that they may be in my future, does anyone know if Tim let the cat out of the bag on these?
-
most likely the Music Live show in november
-
Ah yes, it looks as if that will be a great show to attend. I for one am a Guthrie Govan fan and would like to attend for that reason alone. Now the question is can I wait?

Saw Guthrie last Friday with his project GPS when they supported the ever brilliant Y&T
Was great stuff- Guthrie is a great player
We will have the Painkillers in stock as soon as Tim gets them out
I am so looking forward to it - was chatting to him about them today
He is apparently just waiting on the box artwork labels
-
cannot wait to see the artwork myself!
They are sooooooooo worth the wait

Dakine, do you have the Painkiller and Warpig in the same guitar? and if not do you think they would work well together in an SG?
-
Stuck to calibrated sets thus far, so no.
Warpigs in a Custom SG
Custom Warpigs in Explorer
Painkillers in JP6
Not sure about that combo, should work but the tonal range is quite apart and different magnets.
Would ask Tim, but am abit dubious myself.
-
a friend of mine at music college has a friend who has painkillers, don't know if they're forum members but I tried them out and they sound pretty damn fantastic
-
Do we know the specs yet?
I guess it's a ceramic magnet, but any idea of the DC resistance?
-
no paperwork with mine as Tim had'nt finalised the packaging etc.
But if remember rightly when talking to him awhile back they are in MM ballpark (did'nt test before fitting either). And yes, ceramic.
And Def. Fantastic

Hope the Painkillers have a cool box :P Christmas cant come quick enough, need/want an awesome bridge pickup for my strat  SD just dont cut the mustard.

Y&T were in the UK last week? Dammit!!!!!
Sorry, off topic....

hey, I read a mini review of the Painkiller in Total guitar this month. Apparently they get their name from one of Primal screams albums...
Bit of info for ya! They should be out soon if they are advertising them in guitar mags.

Umm, Primal Scream huh?
Ever hear of JUDAS PRIEST?
Ask Tim.
BTW, they are so BAD that Primal Scream would poop emselves playing em. I think K.K. and Glenn would Lap Em Up however!
-
I thought the Painkiller got it's name from a Judas Priest album.
The Painkiller is a NWOBHM pickup. Primal Scream isn't NWOBHM.

Like MANY others, they must be sooooooooo arrogant that they are correct and all others (inc. designer) must be wrong ;)

looked at TG and they actually have it correct (i.e. Judas Priest).
Though that is still not a vast indication of writing skills/intelligence on their part, hmmmmmmmmm Painkiller, is it named after aspirin? ROFLMAO!

THey may have thought it was the paintkiller and thought it was named after Nitromors.

Hmm I've been looking for pickup that will get me an early Metallica tone a la Kill "em All. Would Painkillers do the trick? I've already got the JCM 800 2203 which is big part of the sound as well.
I know Metallica used high output ceramic pups on Kill 'Em All then switched to EMGs for Ride the Lightning and beyond. I was previously looking at the Cold Sweats or the MM since they're both ceramic. Thanks.
-
IMHO,
as James was using a Duncan Invader in his V copy into his modded Marshall I would say, noop.
I would more likely say MM (althought don't own this one) or Custom Warpig which I do.
Having said that my Painkiller is a killer pup and is very hot. Just voiced abit more 'british' is only way can put it.
I can get great 'tallica tones through my Mesa with it but think my CWP is better for it.
-
Yeah I don't know to me the Miracle Man man would be a more modern tone (same with a Ceramic Warpig) as they're maybe a little more mid sccoped?
I haven't played a Miracle Man yet, the Nailbomb in my Silverburst Les Paul is great just looking for something a little tighter but maybe with the same vintage edge to it. You don't think the Painkiller would achieve this?
-
Trying to emulate a 'tone' is pretty much a 'chase the rainbow' exercise in my book (if trying to be VERY anal about it). That said, trying to get close to 'tonal range' well much depends on amps as well as pups and these things are less critical.
I hav'nt owned a Marshall for a looooooooooooong time so cannot comment in conjunction with your amp. However imo I can get tonally close with my Custom Warpigs.
The invader (bridge pup in his V copy) is a ceramic magnet and therefore a more 'modern' pup anyway.
I am yet to purchase a Nailbomb so dunno, may be ok.
As for Painkiller, IMO, not so much, hard to explain why, just sounds too 'British' for want of better explanation. Maybe a Cold Sweat.
Difficult as my ears are mine and yours are yours.
ALOT depends on amp/settings but if I were looking the Painkiller would not probably be my first choice.
