I've just seen Philly Q's post about age.
So how old are you Bare Knucklers?
I'm 41 but feel 28! It's these pickups you see!

I was 41 last month! 1964-1965! Same year but one? Were young man!
Question! :?:
That saying life begins at 40. Well I think I get it now, it happened to me this year, a change that is!
Hmmm...we need a 40+ thread here  :!: :!:

Ehh... 14 :?
I feel pretty damn young here
-
I'm 43 in December (that makes me 42 by the way)
Which makes it too expensive to buy a decent guitar made the same year as I was.
So for all you youngsters find such an item now becasue you will wish to do a similaraly stupid thing when you are older.
Rob...
-
Old enough to know better
Young enough still not to care :)
Turned, gulp, 37 last month, yikes!
-
I'm 17 8)
So, what's it like to be old - all those that aren't Sam and Kepu that posted before me?
Just taking your advice Rob - 1989 doesn't appear to have been a great year for guitar building :P I'll hunt one down eventually :drink:
-
was 1992 good guitar year?

was 1992 good guitar year?
is'nt that the 'Hello Kitty' year? ROFLMAO

I'm 31 and trying to find a '74/'75 guitar that's actually worth buying. The mid seventies was such a naff era!

Oh I dunno, the Yamaha SGs and I think the gibson L500 (the one santanna used for a little while).
Rob... (Ignoring the Hello kitty comment)

44 last week.
Sorry, the cake is all gone!

I'm 17, 18 at the end of november :)

I've just seen Philly Q's post about age.
Bugger! Wish I hadn't mentioned it now.
I'm 42, but probably wouldn't have 'fessed up if a few of you lads weren't even older. You don't feel much different in your head, though, do you? It's only when you look in the mirror that the full horror hits you...
1964 was a good guitar year, but I sold my only '64 guitar. I've got one from '65, and I think that's the end of my flirtation with the vintage market.

See your as young as you feel!

Hell yeah! I'm gonna be the coolest guy in the town with my original Hello Kitty guitar! PDT_002

You guys are all much younger than me - I was 52 last month, but I was still at TO's last 2 gigs enjoying myself. I am seeing Robin Trower next weekend and the weekend after is the BK get together at my place.
My philosophy is the old Eric Morcombe one 'you are only as you as the woman you feel' - unfortuately it gets to be an expensive one if you have to keep trading wives in!!!
But I really believe if you have an open mind and love music that it all keeps you young. I really love the blues and classic rock, but will listen to anything (other than Country & Western {different to Country}, and gangsta rap). I have an eclectic taste in music and this keeps me young too.

Yeah, but for me that's just wishful thinking...

Is it just Sambo, _tom_, Kepu and me that are the only teenagers here? (19 btw) what happened in 1987 guitar history?
-
:D Philking your supposed to have bought a guitar thats 52 yrs old NOT bought 52 guitars & loaded them up with BK`s to make the rest of us drool !! :P

what happened in 1987 guitar history?
1987? Birth of the Ibanez Jem and RG550. I have two '87 (or possibly '88 ) RG550s in Road Flare Red :D
-
48 and going strong ! :D
Does this mean I qualify for a free 1958 Les Paul ?
-
i'm 31, but like everyone else i feel a lot younger...most of the time! on sunday mornings i sometimes feel about 81!
i'm actually finally doing the things i should have done in my early twenties, but which circumstances never allowed, so i think i'll just stay in my twenties for a few more years, time's an abstract concept anyway!
-
I'm 24, but I might as well be the youngest one here... I mean I've been alive for 24 years and still haven't done anything with my life...
-

Hey man, ditto. Use the next 18 years wisely (or not so wisely!) so you're not in the same position at 42.
-
I think I'm 17 and my kids think I'm about 7 (my body thinks its 3*10^6)
Rob...

At 47 I guess I fit in with the more Classic crowd. My wife thinks I too am trying to relive my youth - I say "Long live Rock & Roll".

25 yesterday!! :D :D :D
got rhcp stadium arcadium songbook from my girlfriend!! :P
-
Just taking your advice Rob - 1989 doesn't appear to have been a great year for guitar building :P I'll hunt one down eventually :drink:
How arrogant do I look quoting myself
Just had a quick browse of the Vintage and Rare site, and I can have either a Gibson Lucille, or a Fender MIJ 12 String Strat...Hmm
-
'89? I'd buy a Jem or RG Ibanez. Maybe a Jackson or Charvel if you're feeling flush! Classic guitars from that period.

Yeah, I was thinking of those, as that's what the "era" was all about really - but they're not my thing...I won't bother with it tbh, I'm gonna get the Legra and then I'm gonna get an Ibanez Artcore i reckon (with Crawlers and Stormy Mondays respectively of course)

Now a Lucille sounds like a pretty classy choice to me :)
For 12 srings 1989 was a good year as the Roger McGuinn sig model was released sig model (less than 1000 made) prices are leaping up now :(
It was also the year this was built http://homer.netmar.com/~muscon2/r303.jpg I love double necks and almost bought a shergold bass & 12 about a month ago
The 12 string strats play pretty nice though and are pretty affordable (lets see what pickup Tim would recomend for that :) )
If you play bass too theres this : @ http://www.newkingsroadguitars.co.uk/basses.htm
(B157) 1989 Fender Jazz bass, USA made, classic sunburst with rosewood neck and white pickguard. original case.£599

You guys are all much younger than me - I was 52 last month, but I was still at TO's last 2 gigs enjoying myself.
Phil's being modest. He didn't mention that the gigs were back to back, both Friday and Saturday night, that Friday's gig was after a long work day, and that one of em required about 6 hrs of driving! Plus, all that drinking! I got back to Phil's place at about 1.45am this morning, and we stayed up till about 3am drinking Young's (well, I had Young's and Phil stuck with the ole Sammy Smith).
Phil can hang with the best of em. No sleep till death, right, Phil?!
Me, I'm 36, loud and proud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ya gotta love it. This is Rock & Roll running with the big dog's and not pissing like a pup.
-
I feel a bit out of my league here at 17.
I think that this site is great because there is so much knowledge to be learned from a young guy like me. Especially because I want to be some sort of Sound Engineer/Electrical Engineer, so I need all the help I can get!
-
40 years old, but I don't look a day over 39
DISCLAIMER: I'm still officially NOT a Bare Knuckler, 'cause the Black Dog set I ordered was shipped to the wrong address, so they were sent back to the UK. Then they were reshipped to the correct address. Then I had to send them back because they got the order wrong (I ordered 1 covered and 1 uncovered, but they covered the wrong one.) So I'm still waiting.

See your as young as you feel!

Well, I'm gonna turn 33 on this Thursday Oct 12th and I feel that everything is just about turning around for me.
I've had a pretty challenging period of self-discovery over the last decade and you know what... I've come full circle and realised that the attitude I had at 17 was spot on.
With that frame of mind and a few new tricks picked up in the interviening years I'm about ready to "rock hard!!" for the next couple of decades at least.
Here's to you guys - all my spiritual bros on this forum who know the value of...
Sex, Real Ale and Rock and Rock! PDT_002 :drink: :drink: PDT_003

A '53 Goldtop with Black Dogs? Nice! What muppet ripped out the original P-90s and re-routed it though :(

 That was my first thought - and cheaper than a new one 8) Good condition considering the age, too.
The problem comes with me not having £1450 though
18th next May, and my Dad reckons a guitar the same age as me would be quite a cool present after I mentioned it yesterday (but he hasn't seen the price tag yet) so I might take him round some shops and have a look if there's anything around nearer the time :)
-
hehe what a bunch of OAPs and babys :D
I'm 25 and will stay this age forever!

Shoot, the horror's been hitting me when I look in the mirror all my life! ;)
Me, I just turned 35 last month. And, yeah, my body knows it's not 13 anymore, but my head is pretty oblivious to this. :) I used to think there was some point at which people started to feel like "proper adults", or some event that made them feel that way, but increasingly my research suggests that everyone who seems like a "proper adult" is really just faking it. :)

I totally agree with that....
I still feel like I'm faking the whole adult thing and I'm still as randy as a dog with two dicks.. :? :P

Show him the 3K McGuinn model then (www.ricsrus.com) then show him the lucile that may help (yeah right)
I would say try the 12 string strat theyre fun, as it should be pretty nice with the top end that the Engl seems to have. Even better get time to invent a new pickup for you hahaha.
Thers a lot of nice stuff out there (yes there are decent guitars from every year, just some are harder to find).

It was refinished as a sunburst in the late 50's or early 60's. It is actually the guitar on the cover of the 'Atlantic Blues Guitar' cd, so if anyone has that you know what it looks like. If you don't, it is the cherry sunburst in the pic attached.

The song 17 by The Sex Pistols. It's as relevant now as it was 29 years ago. Read the lyrics and learn :!:

That's the cd. The sunburst is sprayed wrong on the guitar, which is the first giveaway, then the grain is very distinctive, and fianally, it is a 3 piece top.
I hate to tell you this, but you payed a lot more for the VOS than I did for the 53 (I bought it about 11/12 years ago). I don't play on the cd - I was never that famous (or that old!!).

Hey Kilby what day? Mine is the 6th (St. Nick's day).

20th ((St Idiots day) It's too bloody close to christmas for my liking, though atleast it's just after payday.
Hmm birthday present for me or christmas presents for the kids. If theyre goos I may let them look at what I buy myself ;)

OK the crux of the question is 'Do you like them?' If you do, and you should if you like rock and metal. That's over two years worth of sourcing some of the material. 20 years worth of earning, buying. 3 weeks worth of itunes loading.
So get the envelope today and appreciate what I did for you!!
Then we can work out some stuff on Cubase and swap info there too. Logic!
50p in a P. Off Shop! Plus 2 stamps.

the ability to run for 5 minutes without needing a break...
speak for yourself
-
I'm 24. But for the purposes of survival I think I'll align myself with the older members of the BKP community. Mainly because I'm a curmudgeonly git ;)
yer! you know what... screw all this "Chummy BKP meet-up!" stuff... lets meet up and have a full-on 'old vs. young' brawl
I really wouldn't advise that young Sam. TO does fencing, Tim is a Hapkido instructor, I'm an assistant instructor in Jiu Jitsu, and I'm fairly sure Dakine mentionned he did something too. It wouldn't go well ;)
-
well firstly if swords are gonna be involved then its OBVIOUSLY not fair...
and any way ill just throw a BK in between you lot and watch you scr@p between yourselves over it  ... actually apart from tim... who will then kick my arse.
-
the ability to run for 5 minutes without needing a break...
Older people don't have to run they can afford proper transport :)
Christ why would anybody want to run for 5 minutes anyway ?
Rob...
-
I know I definately cant run for 5 minutes without needing a break, and as Rob says, why would you want to anyway
-

I'm 17. bwhahaha most of yu will die before me
Not if me and Kifu cripple you with our year of birth Hello Kittys! if the guitars dont kill you then the embarrassment will

What've you trained in mate? I keep meaning to do some proper cross training but time is a commodity I have little of so it's just a case of sticking with what I know for the time being :)
And Sambo, I can run 10 miles then brawl if need be ;)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVE
-
What's the Old/Young cut-off point for the brawl?
I'm 26, and capable of no martial arts, but I could be tasty enough with the traditional tyrone combo. A bottle of Buckfast and a Hurley...
-
OK, it's midnight
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVE
THANK YOU!
As I'm now 33 I've decided to renounce violence and use my training in close protection, JKD, Kali, Akido & Kickboxing for good not evil.
Sambo - I'm gonna love ya da deth...

That's just wrong (and I think Sambo was too young to get the smiley).
I'm 28, and I quite like being 28. I am quite surprised how many people are either in the under 20 or over 40 bracket, no wonder people here have such questionable taste in music ;)
I think the 20-40 group should team up for this clash. There's less of us, but I think we have the right balance of strength, fitness, experience and training
-
Happy Birthday Dave!
I think we should extend upper age limits to say hmmm 52. We could benefit a great deal by listening to the sage like words of wisdom for PhilKing and Mr 38...

I've got a black belt in right hooks and head butts! No formal training needed, just the area I grew up in and the pubs I drank in gave me all the tips I need! I'm a nice bloke really but I'm not scared of anyone, could be to my detriment one day. Bring it on!   8)

i thought that WAS a martial art? there's also the legendary "twelve pints and a long length of copper pipe off the top of a plumber's van"! or is that just around here...
-
oh, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVE!!! how's the leg these days?

My Elephant memory is failing me! I used to do Tai Kwon Do when I was 21. They say Cong Ying and bow and then have a scr@p. It was very educational and i still employ the stretching exercises to this day. It's superb for your fore-arm muscles and legs. So you can chug like a demonic bar-steward from hell and jump of the telly without getting hurt!! Then dump a monitor straight on a showsec employee and laugh! Well one can dream! One day, one day!
-
Happy birthday don't cuddle Sam too hard you may break him
Rob...
-
Thank you to all my BKP brothers for all your birthday wishes!
I see that you are offering Sambo's services as part present / part human sacrifice.....
Though I am sure he would benefit greatly from my attention - I have to decline....
I had a good think about what type of person I've been shagging in the past and I realised that they were all women.
So I asked a mate and he said that is a good sign that I'm straight!
You've had a lucky escape dear Sambo...  Maybe next year!!
-
:o

18 glorious years

Sambo's human, nobody told me that !
Rob...
-
oh HAR HAR
go and twiddle on your 12-string rob...
pffstch
-
Belated happy birthday Dave - have a couple for me (shags or beers)
-
34 years old.
I do Wing Chun Kung Fu, and would feel duty-bound to defend the honour of the older BKP forumites against the scallywag contingent (yeah, that means you, Sambo!).
Having said that, I've only got a white belt so far, so I'm more likely to damage myself than anyone else.

Like raging hormones and lack of money?
God, raging hormones. I can barely remember that phase. I can remember the lack of money though.
It's good to see so many oldies have martial arts skills. I'll stay behind and shout words of encouragement.
-

-
Almost missed the roll call.... :) I'm 31. My martial arts skills are nil (apart from a very bad impersonation of Karate Kid doing his crane stuff) so you'll more likely to see me run than fight in a brawl. Off course if there'd be a pub nearby I'd take cover there and hang back and enjoy the view, or maybe play some music while you guys beat each other to pulp using sinister martial arts techniques
-
I could always learn origami and we could have competitions making paper models of swans.
-
man I love this forum.... I'm 29 and Ben is 5 weeks
-
I am 35
No martial arts, but I stopped smoking 6 months ago after 20 years, do daily exercises since 3 months and focus on positive energies, which all help me be a better person and guitarist indeed.
-
29, not exactly looking forward to turning 30...
-
Hozze, in 10 years time you will think back wistfully wishing you could be 30. tis only a number.
-
Hehe, very true I guess... Still, I can't help wonder where the hell my youth went! :(
