Title: wiring the warpig.
Post by: maliciousteve on June 18, 2005, 04:52:27 PM
hey, i installed my 7 string warpig quite recently and through a solid state amp, it sounded great, but playing it through my JCM 900 showed what it really sounded like. My Jackson with an X2N sounds more powerful than the warpig. so i think maybe its been wired wrong.

i have the red wire soldered to the volum pot tag

the silver and black wires to the back of the volume pot

and the green and white wires not soldered to anything.

Have i wired this wrong?

please help asap because im going to record on monday and need this guitar sounding awesome.

Sounds right to me Steve although make sure the white/green are taped up out of the way and aren't touching anything.Check height adjusment too as this makes a big difference with handwound pickups.

Could it be possible that the X2N sounds louder because of the midrange?

My Crawlers sound a wee bit louder than my Warpig on a similar amp EQ setting.

oh right ok guys, it sounds a hell of a lot better when turned up anyway.

one last thing, i think there some sort of earthing problem, like when im at band practices, i pick up the sound of the generator through my amp, since i've had the warpig, its gotten louder, is this just because of the higher output of the pickups?

No..........you need to check the earth in both guitar and amp as it sounds like you've got a fault somewhere.

Title: white & green...

-Make sure those white and green wires are soldered to each other before you tape the ends securely from any contact with anything else-
check that the volume pot is grounded itself, free of ground loops, and be gentle with those 4 wires- one can inadvertantly sever the ends removing the isolation also be particularly careful of brutality where they disappear into the pickup itself- if you still have doubt in regard to it's function,  unsolder it completely, test every component in the harness- pickup, pots, etc., and do it all over again as cleanly as possible...
