Hi,
I finally received my custom axe with BKPs and had some time to test so now I'll try to give a little review (Hard to find words...).
About the guitar. It's a Mayones Setius GTM 7 with a Nailbomb in the bridge and a Crawler in the neck. The pickups are set quite close to the strings (compared to all my older guitars).
Ok, first of all, when I got the guitar I was extremely surprised. This guitar has a ton of highs! Let me explain, before I played a Schecter 006 Blackjack, which comes with a set neck and SD JB and 59. The Mayo is a bolt on neck plus BKPs. So even though the woods on both are similar the sound is totally different which I didn't expect to that extent!
On to the Pickups.
Overall, they sound extremely defined, have lots of highs but at the same time are a bit 'tame' (in a good way). Let me explain this, the SDs have some frequencies which are very cutting. This makes them sound a little to cutting and screaming at times.
The BKPs seem to have less of these frequencies, so they come through very articulate and 'nice'. Hope this was understandable?
Crawler neck:
Vintagey, less mids than your PAF, more highs, really, in this guitar it is almost single coilish (what I wanted). For a not-so-hot neck pickups it has surprisingly big 'chug'.
Nailbomb Bridge:
Chugga, chugga. :D
No, honestly you can chug away if you want. It has gain, without getting brainless. Harmonics are easy. But it is extremely balanced!
Don't know how to explain, it doesn't have any frequencies dominating the others. (If I would have to choose pickups again I would probably choose something with more body/mid, and maybe a little less hot, but it is cool and I'm actually still getting used to the NB and it's possibilities).
If you roll the volume back, you understand why they say versatile. It gets exremely clean!!
It's not like, 'if you roll back and don't pick too hard you can get some cleaner tones', NO, it gets CLEAN!
hmmm, actually this cleaness describes it also when cranked... there's the gain and all but it's still actually an extremely clean pickup.
Split:
Both give very nice and usable split sounds. Each is different but nice.
Ok, hope this helped. Right now I'm changing the strings from 9s to pure nickel 10s and then I'll see how it sounds. Should work great though with the BKPs clarity.

I got a Mayones SeGTM Lizard for some times now and I love it. The frets weren't great (they still needs some works) but it sounds like no other guitar I've tried (certainly cause of that huge ovangkol top)
It was custom made for me with wood pickup cover and knobs :) I can't wait to get it setup properly.

That description might well point to choosing a Crawler bridge as well, next time!
But the NB is cool, chugging nicely and, yes, I've heard clips with fantastic cleans from it.

Yeah I'm very happy with the guitar as well and have no problems with the frets.
If someone is looking for an extremely well built guitar with awesome playability, have a look at the setius. The base 6-string GTM model costs about 1000Euro, which isn't very much for the quality.
That description might well point to choosing a Crawler bridge as well, next time!
Maybe, you're right :) (hey Carlaz you ARE the knight of Crawlington, aren't you? ;)), but as I said I'm still getting used to the NB. I think the 10 gauge strings will thicken the tone a bit and the next step will be to set my amp up for this guitar. With all the clarity and highs of the BKPS I will be able to change the settings to thicker warmer tones...

I do like my Crawlers! :) But, hey, let the record show I do recommend other pups, too! :)

I should think it ought to be possible to get pretty fat tone out of an NB. Pups are, after all, only part of the equation, and a very great deal depends on amp settings (or, in my lame-o case, amp sim settings! :roll:)!

Hi,
just a little update. I have the .10 strings now and it makes all the difference, Suddenly the thickness and tone I was missing is there again :D.
I should think it ought to be possible to get pretty fat tone out of an NB
Yes, now it's there. All the fat, juicy mids :D
Also, the low B had a volume drop compared to the low E string. Now it's much more balanced.
I've done it before but it surprises me again how much difference a change from gauge 9 to gauge 10 strings can make 8).
Maybe I should add that I changed from nickel wound 9s to pure nickel 10s.
Will have to test some more now...

It's not exactly that one but it's based on it thow :)
Mine has a HSH setup, no lizards amber bulbs, and an ovangkol top ( a species of rosewood, sound VERY fat)

Yep,
Piezo included!
The volume is push/pull to turn the piezo on and the tone knob is a Piezo-Humbucker blender, which I think is cool as there are no extra switches and I almost never used the tone pot on other guitars.
The piezo and the logo on the neck are actually the custom stuff the rest is the standard model.

My cystom options were wooden covers, knobs and... piezo pickup :lol:
I got exactly the same setup, volume push/pull + blend :P

I'm searching for a decent 7 string at the moment. How much was this guitar, and where can you get them?

My guitar cost a little extra as I have the Piezo, the custom Logo and the BKPs...
BUT...
you can get the standard model here, for example:
